View Full Version : Playstation - were these released?

I've finally finished a first draft of my PSone rarity/price index. It's done in Etler style with
C - available wherever fine videogames are sold
U - tougher but you probably know someone who owns one
R - you might have to go to ebay for these, but they show up in the stores at a decent clip
ER - There are often times when not a single copy of the game is for sale on ebay, let alone a good condition one.

The list was compiled through research of local stores, ebay, half.com and online resellers. I believe it to be fairly accurate.

To get an initial list, I used the old SCEA website list. However, their own list was filled with errors. For instance, they list both "Tic Tac Chicken" and "Crossroad Crisis", which are the same game. Since gamefaqs used data from this list, they are often wrong in the same way. The following games are games I'm unsure about the release status. If you have the game or think there may be an alternate title, let me know.

Here we go:
All Star Tennis 99 (Ubisoft)

Bass Hunter (supposedly by Take Two in 2000)

Bedlam (GT 1997 - I know it came out in Europe, but was it released in America?)

Caesar's Palace (I know CP2 and CP2000 came out in the US - what about the original, supposedly from 97?)

Clayfighter Extreme (Interplay 98?)

Formula 1 Racing Championship and Official Formula 1 Racing
(F1RC is by Eidos and OF1R by EA - both are listed by Sony as US released, but I've never heard of them. I know that the PS has Formula 1 98 and Formula 1 99 by Psygnosis and Formula 1 and Formula 1 Championship Edition by Bizarre Creations as US releases)

Gubble (Sony says a June 2002 release?)

Jeanette Lee's Virtual Pool (not "Virtual Pool", which was released)

MLBPA Bottom of the Ninth 98 (The 97 and 99 were definitely released, what about 98? - it's from Konami)

Motocross Madness (Psygnosis?)

MTV Boarder (Ok, I know this title doesn't exist, but it was on the SCEA list? What could this be? They had MTV Skateboarding listed separately, maybe jsut a duplicate)

NFL Quarterback Club '96 (half.com has an image, but nowhere else?)

Revolution X (Acclaim 96?)

Rise of Robots 2

Roadsters (Titus?)

Sno X Racing (on old Sony list - never heard of it)

TNN Motorsports Series (Ok, Sony has three games listed: TNN Hardcore 4x4, TNN Motorsports Hardcore TR and TNN Hardcore 2. A bunch of places have TNN 2 listed for sale, but nowhere is there a photograph of the game and it's not available on ebay. However, 13 ppl on half.com claim to sell Hardcore 2 as well as some sellers like amazon.com. My thinking is that Hardcore 2 and TR are the same game? What do you think?)

EA Soccer in 1998 (How many games did EA release? RTWC 98 was a definite, as was World Cup 98. Was there a 3rd game, FIFA 98, though? I didn't think so, and I think Sony just has RTWC listed twice)

(Btw, here's the list of PSone "ER" titles, assuming none of the above exist - if you think I missed something, let me know. This may seem like a lot of ER's, but the PS1 library is 4-5x bigger than the DC library and hundreds of games bigger than the NES):

Roadsters was definitely released. (http://ps.vgf.com/reviews/roadsters/index.htm) The copy I was sent to review is the final retail version.

And yup, Titus actually made a decent game.

Yep, Revolution X was released.

I believe ROTR 2 was released as "Rise 2: Ressurection". I'm almost positive I've seen this around in big box format.

I don't think Motocross Madness ever came out for PSX, especially not from Psygnosis.

If you want feedback on your ER list, it's too big. These are games I've seen in stores a few too many times for them to be ERs:
Alien Trilogy (there's even a GH version of this one)
Colin McRae 2.0
Lethal Enforcers (I think as LE 1&2)
Micro Machines (unless there's more than one)
Pro Pinball: Timeshock
Raystorm
v_Tennis
Xevious 3DG+

Was Sam Sho released for PSX in the US? I thought the only one we got here was Sam Sho 3.

I'm very sure there wasn't a fifa 98. There hasn't been one for any system and I don't see why the psx should be an exeption to this.

Thanks for the comments -

MTV Snowboarding I have listed - I wanted to make sure that there wasn't "another" MTV Boarder. I think Sony jsut entered this title under both names.

I've entered Resurrection, Roadsters and Revolution X in.

@Kid Ice -
We also got Samurai Shodown : Warrior's Rage. I've never seen it in person, but I've seen enough photos of it that I can safely confirm it.

I had the GH version of Alien Trilogy as C, but I downgraded the big box version down, since, as you rightly said, it can't be all that uncommon if it was a greatest hits game. Similar to 2Xtreme, though, it's much harder to find in its original long box state.

I think the other titles you listed are deserving of ER, though. Even including when included in system sets, only 1 copy of some of these games has been available on ebay during the 3 weeks I watched (for instance, Pro Pinball: Timeshock). There's a game "Micro Maniacs" that's very common, but I haven't seen Micro Machines in a while. Raystorm and Micro Machines are probably the most "common" of the extra-rares - they could be considered simply rare.

Thanks a lot for the help! I'll put up the full list (in txt) later this week once I think I'm pretty close to an fully accurate list.

I think the Artdink titles are pretty rare, with low print runs, especially in this order:

Carnage Heart
Aquanaut's Holiday
Tail of the Sun

I NEVER see these in stores, and Carnage Heart is especially tough, cuase it has 2 discs, a instruction manual, AND a strategy guide manual, very hard to get totally complete.....also I would consider Intelligent Qube and RC de GO very rare....and does Raiden Project really go for over 50? I got a sealed one for 9.99 from a Kay bee.....

Well I have a copy of Samurai Showdown: Warriors Rage so it does exist.

@salt....yeah, Raiden Project has been known to fetch up to the high 60's, usually bottoming out in the high 40's. That's quite a find for 9 bucks.

I have Carnage and TAil listed as rare; I've found them both in stores, but they're tough to be come by. I listed Aquanaut's as an uncommon, but I make change that to rare because it's right on the border.

Over here in the UK, Colin McRae 2.0 can be very hard to find. Only one in my area I've ever seen is in a video rental place. Wip3out was rare once, but some copies must've become available recently because I saw 3 on a flea market (mint), then a few popped up on eBay. Must've been a dusty forgotten crate in a warehouse somewhere.

A UK version of this list would be useful.

While we are on the subject I have another unconfirmed I'd like to list:

Ad&d Tower of Doom

It was slated for a '95-96 release so if its out there it is in a big box. Thats the only one on my list I haven't been able to confirm! :(

Wow, Tower of Doom? Good lord, I knew that was a rare Japanese Saturn game, but now it could possibly be a rare U.S. PSX game as well!!!

Tower Of Doom was in fact CANCELLED, only Released on the saturn.

As Far as Fifa 98 goes, it was released but only in the " road to the world cup" format.

Has anyone seen, these?

Baldur's Gate
Larry Johnson's Converse Basketball
Arthur's Quiz
Arthur's Ready to Race
Backyard Football (not Soccer)
Beachhead 2000
Buffy The Vampire Slayer

These are a few I am trying to confirm

Thanks

Arthur's Ready to Race is available at Gexpress.com, so I'm pretty sure it was released...

Beach Head 2000 WASN'T released??? I might need to get my new glasses adjusted because I could have SWORN I saw a copy of it last weekend...

I'm not doubting you Rac, it seems like I really remember seeing it in stores.

Ok, after searching a little, it seems as though I rememeber seeing the PC version without a box...apparently, even at 27, you can have a Senior moment...

Arthur's Ready to Race was definitely released. I've never heard of or seen the others, so I'm pretty sure they're unreleased.

Gubble Was Released by Mida in Australia and Europe. Not n June 2002 but at about December 2001 (When I bought it.) Mida is known for obscure PSX games that are cheap and were relaesed only this year.
