Atari 2600 controller with grey base?

i found one of these the other day...whats it for? the stick is black, cord is black, base is grey.

Came w/ the XEGS, basically an Atari XE computer w/ detachable keyboard, lightgun, big pastel buttons & 3 games, Missile Command built-in IIRC. Bug Hunt & Flight Simulator were the others.

Atari's answer to the NES & SMS. AN old ANTIC mag compared the 3 systems head to head. March '87 i think.

I have one on my XEGS. Each XEGS came with one. It's grey to match the console.
