View Full Version : Holy Crap USPS is slow

I recently got a Nes off of ebay, the tracking number says it shipped out March 1st, it was making its way along nicely then it gets to the Jersey City sort facility and BAM! has been there since March 4th. This has been the longest I've ever seen a package sit in one place normally anything I buy no matter what it is gets to my house in 5 days or less(even media mail).

What is going on here? :onfire:

The estimated delivery is between the 4th and the 12th could it be that they're taking their gand old time with it or holding it back until they absolutley have to move it?

I have never really had any complaints about any shipping service until this, [sigh]:bawling:

While their tracking systems leaves much to be deserve, USPS is generally not slow. Your seller probably sent the package parcel post or even worse, media mail. Sometimes you'll get a package well before there any are updates to the tracking status.

I mean, if it was shipped parcel post or media mail it could take quite a while. If it doesn't have to be there by a certain time, then expect it to take a while. I've seen parcel post take like 10 days before.

Not to be a dick, but really....you are complaining that your package has not gotten to you yet? Seriously?

It's only been around a week or so. I've had packages arrive in two days and some arrive in 10 DAYS or more...and those were PRIORITY MAIL packages.

The Post Office doesn't always scan their packages only until it is finally delivered. There are times in which it doesn't get scanned AT ALL, even though it's supposed to be. You might get an "acceptance" message and then a "delivered" message, and nothing in between.

Seriously, just wait longer...it's not going to kill you. Oh, and when you do get the package, DO NOT penalize the seller for USPS issues. Don't "ding" his stars because you wanted speedy service and USPS took their time. IT IS NOT HIS/HER FAULT. I say this because I've seen plenty of feedback from desperate buyers who either give negatives and/or low DSR scores for USPS issues in which the seller is not at fault for.

Oh yeah, if it was sent Media Mail and Parcel Post, there are times in which it can take WEEKS if not a complete month or more to arrive. Again, not the sellers fault, specially if you paid for that service.

Can a NES even go in media mail? It does have games and controllers with it so I figured it couldn't since I thought it had to be under a certain size and could only contain books and dvds.

Oh and like I said even times when I got stuff through media mail it never took more than 5 days which is why it seems so strange...it is just frustrating thats all, the impatience is getting to me cause I really want to play it@_@

NO. It cannot go media mail. The seller could get in a heap of trouble for doing this.

Also, since it seems it was send Media Mail, prepare to wait a very long time.

How much did you pay for shipping?

There are several factors that come into play, location being one of them. An item located near your state might arrive in just a few days, but if the location is in the opposite side of the US, prepare to wait a very, VERY long time.

I would never hold any seller accountable for the speed of the shipping service, the seller sent it out a day or two after the purchase, and I am usually happy if they ship it out within a week so the seller will get good feedback for that. Now that I think of it I think I found the seller in the auction forum here or at Nntendoage.

Paid $11 bucks I think and it says economy shipping...not sure what that is.

Tell me about it.

Recently, Ebay has been innundated with desperate buyers that can't or are not willing to wait for their items. All thanks to their new rating system and the absurd DSR crap.

Holy hell, he really got you good on shipping charges. For a bit more, he could have shipped in a Flat Rate Priority Mail box. What method does the tracking number say?

I understand I am overreacting and apologize for that.

I get that it could take awhile for shipping across the country the thing is it is currently in my state about 75mi away in a sort facility I guess the question really is what would cause it to be held up in the same sort facility for so long.

You guys could be right as to they did not scan it did not think about that earlier.

Take the same number and go to www.usps.com directly.

Do a tracking search and check shipping method, expected delivery date (which is always never correct), etc.

All right so I checked the tracking number on the usps website and it looks likes it getting delivered today WOO!

So lesson learned, be more patient and don't trust the tracking info to always be updated on ebay.

Sorry if I was a pain in the ass.

However, just for curiosity, what shipping method did it state in the main site? Parcel Services? Priority Mail?

You think USPS is slow?

Try ordering stuff from Hong Kong via standard postage on a regular basis.

I remember once I ordered a PS1 Import Boot Disk from a Canadian Website and forgot about it. It showed up in my mailbox about four months later (apparently they stared at it in customs for a few months and put a bunch of official looking stickers and stamps on the envelope).

You should have bought a nes from the Digital Press store. They clean them up real good, put in a new 72 pin connector, and give them a 30 day warranty. How can you go wrong?

Package Services...when you get the package, take a good look at it (all around) to see if it's in great shape, and to also verify if there is any indication of actual shipping method.

If you see "Parcel Post" anywhere around, shipping was ok. If you see "Media Mail", then this implies that:

1)The seller made a good profit of shipping, and

2)He sent the package using a service that is not allowed to be used for said items

If it was me, I would give him a positive, but ding his DSR stars ONLY in that department, the "shipping" department. Some may frown upon this, but this type of practice has to stop.

Also, actually email or message the seller and say you're unhappy and why. If they've sold more than a couple items or don't examine their rating then they probably won't even notice. And if they do, they might not have any idea why their rating changed if they are consistent in the way they ship.

QFT.

I did some verification, and thinking the NES is 4 pounds (I know it's not even a fraction of that...I just put 4lbs as an example), I got this:

http://postcalc.usps.gov/MailServices.aspx?m=6&p=4&o=0&dz=07097&oz=37030&pob=0&MailingDate=3/9/2011&MailingTime=8:00%20AM

Seller could have shipped Priority Mail, specially since he/she printed a label electronically. He/she could have shipped it Parcel Post as well, since the price is very close. Like I mentioned before, if he/she shipped Parcel Post, then it's ok. Now...

...notice the charge for Media Mail. It's only a tiny fraction of shipping. Plus, he/she cannot use that service for anything video game related.

Not really, if the package is inspected then it will just arrive postage due. The only way the seller could get in any type of trouble is if the buyer complains about having to pay the postage due amount.

If the Post Office inspects it as you say, then it really can't be sent using Media Mail. Otherwise, they, the Postal Inspectors, will just ignore it and ship it normally. I mean, the seller might try to ship it Media Mail, but that doesn't mean that it's correct.

Although you made me wonder...what if a buyer/receiver does complain? What will the PO do? Do they go against the sender or make the buyer pay the rest?

I am extremely patient when it comes to shipping.

I sent my fiancee a very nice Christmas package to the U.K., around the first week of December. She didn't receive it by Christmas, and by January I'd given up hope. She finally got it in mid-February. I was ecstatic that she had received it at all. The Christmas package she had sent me never even made it over here. I don't know if there's a problem with the UK Royal Mail or UK customs or what, but I'd be very interested to hear any other information about or issues/experiences with them. I'm afraid the birthday package I'll be sending her in April will fall into a similar black hole (unless I go FedEx--yikes).

That wasn't a very long wait if you ask me. I bought a N64 lot last month on eBay and the seller waited over two weeks just to SHIP the dang package. When I finally contacted him about it, he just said that it had been shipped and gave me the tracking number, without an apology or explanation or anything.

In terms of the shipping services themselves, I haven't had many problems with USPS. Usually the biggest problem I get with them come from the actual delivering. On several occasions, they've been flat-out lying to me when they're being lazy asses, leaving notices about an attempted delivery even though multiple people were home at the time and there was absolutely no knock or bell. Sometimes they'll even leave a final notice without any prior attempts or previous notices. It's really annoying when I have to waste gas or money on public transit to pick up a package at the post office that should've been delivered to my door. And, of course, it drags out the process, making me get a package much later than I should.

As far as transit goes, I've had weird things happen with UPS. Once we had a package go from Jersey to NYC, as they always do, and then something odd happened when it was out for delivery and they then took it BACK to Jersey. I think there have been at least three or four occasions in which we had a UPS package out for delivery and then the tracking said that some kind of "emergency" happened. I think it's just baloney to excuse more laziness.

It feels like there's something bizarre going on with the USPS right now. I'm in Canada, and I've had several packages from the US disappear (or at least take forever, if they're still on their way) while packages from other countries have arrived without delay.
