No seriously, WTF? Any ideas? Someone here has to have insider knowledge to this conspiracy. Anyone ever see a ROM floating around out there? There has to be more info.

That page says the screenshot came from a "DS Download Station". Wonder if a demo version of the game is in one of those carts?

Yup, there is. :) DS Download Station Vol. 9 has a timed playable demo of Gauntlet DS on there.

I was pretty sure they had finished the game but for some reason it went unreleased, I even think IIRC that Retro Gamer the mag did a review on it.

I like how you can twist the camera with L and R. Reminds me of Contra 3 (SNES).

The magazine did. I think someone asked Darran about the game later on, and he said they had to return the cartridge, but I'd have to go search for reference on that to see if it's correct.

So does anyone have this? Anyone play it?

My local Target had the Download card a ways back. Retro Gamer was hyping the near-release at the time and I happened to have my DS on me and downloaded and enjoyed the demo.

I was really looking forward to the final release and then... nothing. I'm curious what exactly happened, because the game was basically finished. Hopefully a near complete proto will surface eventually.

I have the Download Station cart with the demo on it, and tried it a few months back. It's not a bad take on the series, and would love to have seen it released. I believe it was a timed demo (ten minutes or so), so you unfortunately can't get very far in it.

I'm sure a cheat device could help with that.

Bumping an old thread, and this is sort of old news, but evidently a 100% complete build was released at the end of last year. It's not at all hard to find at this point. Plays pretty well, too.

An additional FYI, the GI Joe DS game used the same engine as Gauntlet if you want some of what the game could have been. I'll just stick to my Download Station.

Given the lackluster reception of the GI Joe game, is the original particularly better?

I haven't played the GI Joe game, but Gauntlet isn't bad. It's no Dark Legacy, but it's definitely Gauntlet. Probably a bit more fun with multiplayer, granted. I don't care for how the inventory works, though. You can carry ONE item (in addition to several keys), be it a health potion, offensive potion, etc. You do get some power attacks that recharge after a few seconds, which helps.

If you have the means of playing it, it's worth a go.
