Hey!

Our LCD handheld game Monkey Labour for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch is getting a relaunch! That's why we're throwing a party, so us retro gamers can get our hands dirty with real old-school gameplay, beat each other up on the leaderboards, but mostly just have fun and enjoy chatting about the games we grew up with.

We made a video that explains it all:

If you could help us spread the news to other fans of old-school technology, that would be awesome. Game webpage with a special party version is at: http://dawnofplay.com/monkeylabour

Thanks,

Recently I read a thread on TIGSource (http://forums.tigsource.com/index.php?topic=18199.0) where you highlighted some of the work you put into attempting to recreate the visual effects of the old LCD handhelds, which I thought was pretty interesting. If I had an iOS device, I would buy this.

Hey, thanks. Yeah, a lot of work (or better yet passion) went into it, glad you find it interesting.

Sorry that it's just on iOS though. Well, actually, the thing is written with XNI, which is a kind of objective-c version of XNA (hope I'm not getting too techical:)), so technically, to put this game on windows/xbox/windows phone it would only have to be translated to C# (which can be done quite directly because the architecture is the same, but still takes time to actually go over all the code).

But we're not sure if this would make sense. One thing is to follow our passion, the other is to survive as a company. We are very much in love with retro gaming, but it seems that it is a pretty difficult niche to succeed with as it's hard to reach the older gamers that would actually get a nostalgia rush from playing with a device that only beeps. :)

But at least everyone we do reach gives as such positive feedback, that it makes it worth anyway. So thanks guys!
