I have a large set of complete N64 games that I've been selling on ebay. I listed a variety of what I thought were fairly desirable games in very good to great condition, only to have a lot of them each up with one minimum bid of $5. Some dude in Brazil got an awesome deal.
On a related note, I did an Ebay search of completed auctions and I was shocked at what I saw. I know that new/sealed games go for much more $$$ but DAMN when did collectors start paying $1500 for Mario 64? Didn't that game sell upwards of 10 million copies? The auction was for a minty-mint non-greatest-hits copy but it's still a dirt common game. Other popular sealed games are going for close to $1000.
I wish I could go back to 1996 and buy out all of the N64 games at my local Wal-Mart.
Where do you see N64 values going in the future?

Same story, new generation. Kids that grew up with the N64 have grown up, are now working and catching the nostalgia bug.

Yeah, but how many of those 10 million copies were opened and played?
Though I can't see why someone would be so desperate to pay over a thousand bucks for shrinkwrap.
But I've seen it happen with Super Mario World.

You got any N64 CIBs left? I need about 70 for the set and would gladly buy filler, as that's about all I need at this point.
Mario 64 is a $400-$500 ish sealed game in Minty shape. You can still get a VGA 90 on eBay for $600 right at this exact moment if you wish. That $1,500 sale in completed listings is a VGA95, which is ungodly. I don't think I've ever seen a VGA 100 cardboard title, so some Minty freak definitely grabbed it.
But yes, N64 is slowly on the tick upward and it's my favorite system to collect for.

I think anytime you are talking about VGA stuff, you're not talking about the actual fair market value of the game, but rather the market value for that particular game in that particular grade from a very, very small group of buyers who are infatuated with the whole VGA grading thing. Having said that, many Nintendo first party games from the NES through the N64 are commanding higher and higher sealed prices. As someone else pointed out, unlike third party stuff, most first party stuff was actually sold and opened and played. It's fairly unlikely that there are big warehouses somewhere with mint sealed copies of Nintendo first party games from more than a few years ago as Nintendo until very recently hasn't followed the same inventory management practices as third parties do (i.e. if you do a large print run that doesn't sell, you keep dropping the price until it does resulting in overstock sitting with distributors). My understanding is that if for some reason a first party Nintendo game doesn't sell well (which is very rare), they will pay to reclaim the stock and destroy it rather than risk having their other new game prices impacted by market saturation.
