Looks like a decimal point error, as in remove one 9 and move the point one left. Those prices would look (relatively) reasonable.

I will never complain about the prices at my local thrifts and game stores again. This is completely insane.

I've been to an indoor Tennessee fleamarket where they had FF7 for sale for $120.
Some sellers are just complete idiots.

I can vouch for Buybacks' insanity. The location in Louisville, Kentucky had a complete copy of Silent Hill for $159.99. If these really are price errors, how could they be so widespread? This place also had Tales of The Abyss for $49.99 and both of ADV's Sailor Moon Uncut sets for $229.99 a piece. (Although I'm not sure if the latter was overpriced. I hear those are naturally expensive.)

No these are not mistakes. I don't know for sure but it's something to do with the way their system calculates prices. I believe it uses ebay and amazon and such. This store also doesn't really specialize in retro games, they are more for movies and current gen stuff.

I had a customer come into my store one day complaining that they saw Buybacks selling TMNT on NES (may have been TMNT 2) for $150. He asked why and the lady working there told him it was a really rare game.

Buybacks prices are insane but I've never seen them this wrong. The only thing they are good for is extremely cheap retro games in the $1 to $2 range since if you bought them off ebay you would have to pay shipping. As for everything else, if I wanted to pay ebay prices, I would go to ebay.

Those cartridges must be some kind of rare prototype version, looking at the prices.

So, are they using ebay's prices for FACTORY SEALED copies? That's the only thing I can think of..

Man oh man! I could see someone just starting to collect games like this, not researching prices, thinking that they are real rare and dropping the money for games like that! The pricing on these are INSANE!

What's the name of the flea market? I'm driving through Tennessee on the highway in bout a month. Would love to see if it's still there.

Oh man I always get a kick out of Buyback's bat shit insane pricing system. I have seen the same thing at my local stores.
I went in one day and bought Silent Hill complete black label for the ps1 for $11. I came back a week later and they had another copy this time at $120. I pointed this out to the clerk and he was like "Yeah it's really rare!"
More recently they had two copies of MGS4 for the ps3. One was the expected $15 the other was $50. I showed it to a clerk and she double checked it and said the price was correct. They were right next to each other!
This occasionally works in the opposite way as I bought Legend of the Dragoon complete for like $8 at the same exact store.

And I thought a store nearby selling a beat up Million Seller Super Mario 64 for $22 was bad. LOL
Also, if they told me Super Mario World was ultra rare, I'd show them the DP guide and then promptly smack them in the face. A Wii costs $200, but this? It's not right in the northwesternmost sense.

Yeah, tell me about it. I dished out about $160 plus taxes on a boxed Sega CD over there and I have seen some Sega Saturn games at GameBuzz for ridiculous prices, but $169.99 for Super Mario Kart and $229.99 for Super Mario World? Just when I thought I'd seen it all at GameBuzz(although I will hand it to GameBuzz: the last few times I've been there, their Genesis and 32X stock, well, whatever's left of it, was dirt cheap).
Now what if Buyback were to find a boxed TurboDuo? What would that go for? $1000 or more?

I think it's less that there are stupid sellers and more that there are stupid buyers, which is why you find prices like these.

I have shopped several Buybacks for several years now and have not seen this ridiculous pricing. I would assign blame to the employees at the particular stores rather than assaulting the companies methods.
Not that they haven't had awkward pricing, just not nearly this extravagant.

I have a Buybacks in my area and I really can't figure them out. It's a love-hate thing...
1. The air conditioning is never on. So when you visit, it's comfy in the winter, but you'll friggin' MELT in the summer. So I try to keep my summer month visits down to 10 minutes.
2. Their DVD/CD selection is fairly impressive, and the prices on those are pretty decent. You can find some good, rare, gonzo stuff on occasion for just a few bucks. Plus they have extensive VHS section for 99 cents each if you're still into that sort of thing.
3. Any disc, DVD, or CD I've gotten there has been flawless. They don't take in anything overly scratched, and they polish/buff everything to a fine sheen.
4. Now then, about the games...The selection is pretty good for a chain, seeing as they carry pretty much every system. I could go there now and pick up Genesis carts, NES systems, controllers, etc. So the classics are available. As far as the pricing, I have not yet figured them out. The ultra rare stuff, yeah, you'll pay through the nose for. But it's odd WHAT they see as "rare." I've seen relatively common stuff priced as "rare." One time, I went in and saw Rygar for PS2 priced at $45. (?!?!) So I asked what the trade-in value was. They punched it up, and it was $27.50. Went down the street to the two Gamestops and cleared out the Rygars from the Bargain Bins ($4.99@). Traded in 8 complete copies for $220 in credit. And by the same token, I've grabbed rare PS1 games for pennies - Got Clock Tower for $6.99 once, then sold it on eBay for $45. So I'm not sure how they come up with their numbers. Runs hot/cold as to if you'll score or not.
