HI, ive decided to take the plunge and really get good quality video out of my Sega. I'm looking to get confirmation that I'm picking up the right components for the job.

Since I'm using a model 1 genesis outputting the sound through the headphone jack shouldn't be a problem so that is one thing I shouldn't have to worry about. (I think)

Although a cheaper price is always welcome, this is the video converter I plan to pick up.

This is one of the few places I've found this scart video for sale. My only issue is that I vaguely remember hearing about some difference between the Japanese and European versions of Scart cables so if anyone also runs a similar setup please let me know.

You will have to use Euro Scart cables for the YUV to Component converter. If you are using the Microcom XRGB then you will have to use Japanese Scart

Thanks for the info, my setup should work fine then.

Everything looks good that's the exact setup I have, the picture is truly beautiful.

I've run into an issue.

The converter and the Scart cable both came in and after setting it up I get no picture. Occasionally I will get black and while non movine "snow" or red and greed non moving banding on the screen. Picked up another set of component cables to check if that was the source of the issue with no luck.

The system still displays fine using the AV output but after playing with the Scart-Converter-Component for a while I have only managed to make different versions of..nothing.

Any ideas?

Try a different tv if you can. What kind of rgb cable are you using? The site you linked also sells xrgb cables which have the same connector as scart which doesn't work with your converter.

Well instead of the option in the OP I opted in for this:

https://sites.google.com/site/retrogamingcables/sega-mega-drive-2-sega-genesis-2-rgb-av-scart-cable-tv-lead-with-rca-sound

I'm also running it through my 32x, decided to go with the RCA output because my current sound setup would be much easier wire wise with this.

Ill try to run it on another tv, unfortunately the only other TV I can run it on cannot switch to component without the proper remote. I've heard of this setup not working on all modern TV's so I wouldn't be surprised if my television is failing to read this properly.

Well after testing it on another TV I've determined that everything works, its just that my Television is not displaying the signal properly. I don't think my TV supports the resolution that the genesis is outputting. Bummer.

Yeah, some hdtv's can't handle 240p on the component input. At this point, you'll want to invest in either an hdmi or a vga upscaler.

actually, I would invest in a nice Sony XBR CRT SDTV. These TV's are heavier than a tank, but damn do they have the best picture your going to find. you can find them for around $30 - $50 at second hand stores depending on the size.

good luck!

Yeah I had the same problem on my HDTV. Really sucks. But it works great on the 52" Projection big screen in my bedroom.

So I've tried several setups and although I can get a great picture using this setup I still can't get sound to output using the scart-rgb method.

Genesis Model 1
CD Model 2
32x
Into:
Genesis Model 2 RGB-Scart with RCA Split [Link] (http://www.retrogamingcables.com/)
Into:
Scart to RGB converter [Link] (http://cgi.ebay.com/SEGA-SCART-RGB-YPbPr-YUV-Component-Video-Converter-/220698773448?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3362ac07c8#ht_1524wt_1139)

I've checked the Scart cable versus wiring diagrams online and it should be outputting sound through the L/R audio splitter cables but has not on the two compatible TVs that I've tested on. Any thoughts?

If you using the Sega Genesis model 1, doesn't matter if your using a stereo scart cable with a audio break away, the DIN port on the back only outputs mono. Best way to get stereo audio from the Genesis & Sega CD is to get a phono to RCA cable. They're very cheap and can be purchased almost anywhere that sells electronics like Walmart, Radioshack, etc. http://www.amazon.com/RiteAV-3-5mm-Stereo-Male-Cable/dp/B000V0G2C4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1300502716&sr=8-1

anyone know where to get a quality RGB to Scart cable these days for Genesis? I notice ChaoticJelly's ebay shop is no longer selling anything. Need Euro Scart cable.

Retro Console Accessories makes some really nice SCART cables:

Thanks, looks like the prices are a little up these days on these.

Also - I want to make a cable for both Genesis II and Nomad. What is the issue with the Nomad Sync? Does it just need a cap?

This is where I got mine for Snes & Genesis, very nice cables, kind of pricey but not monster cable stupid prices.

Key thing about them is they are grounded, I got my first snes scart cable from play asia for 3.99 but not grounded and had staticy audio, these cables cured that problem.
