Some of you surely already know about this, but I thought I'd throw up the link.

Sigh....already $20K...people simply love to throw away money, don't they?
More power to them, I guess.

The 10% donation of the final price of the auction sure has something to do with the current price .... and will grow much more for this alone :D

I honestly can't see the appeal of the game, apart from the people who want to have a complete collection and have enough excess money to throw at such a venture like this game.

Exactly.
With that amount of cash, I can buy a house, save for the future, and, if I wanted, build several complete CIB sets for different consoles!

I'm not a hardcore collector by any means, but I do have about 180 NES games towards a complete set. I'll probably finish up the collection in the next year or two and this is the one game that I'll be getting a repro of and calling it good (if I even go that far).

A repro? Just buy World Class Track Meet and be done with it. I can see why someone might want an actual cart to complete a collection, but making a bootleg of it just seems pointless.

If I had a factory sealed copy of Stadium Events I would have gotten it graded as well. It raises your return investment significantly.

I'm only 13 games away from a complete US NES collection. Auctions like this one are very discouraging. I just have to keep hoping I'll find some of the super-rares in a yard sale somewhere, or that someone will bring them into my store to trade not knowing what they are.

This is insane. Did NES collectors become doctors and lawyers and hollywood agents in the past few years? That price is mind blowing. I am in awe of the new age of 5 figure sales.

Because another factory sealed one(that wasn't graded) sold for around $42,000 last year. So of course this dude won't take anything less than that because he thinks his graded copy is worth more. Simple as that.

I think the guy simply took up a better offer through an independent buyer/transaction.
If this is true, I wonder if the seller will follow through with the donation thing.
EDIT: Nevermind...just saw the seller relisted the item...at a super cheap $133,700! BARGAIN!

I would go so far as to say that some of the members here are going to be capable of purchases like this one in the future. I'm a young professional myself. It's going to be interesting in 10-20 years when the kids of the 80's and 90's are making the big bucks.

We're really already at that point. Kids of the 80s are now 30-40 years old. 30-40 has been the prime age for 2600 collecting, which has just recently peaked, as that age bracket pushed its way out of the 40s and are now closer to their 50s.
We're about 5 years off from the peak of NES, maybe less.

Many would classify you in the "NES era".
Don't know why, though. Guess it has to do with what console was prevalent during the time you were growing up.

I guess that's fair. I did get one for Christmas '86 so it was a pretty big part of my early childhood. I grew up watching TMNT, DuckTales, Rescue Rangers, etc. Guess I am a 90's kid!

Like I already said, he realizes that a factory sealed one sold last year for around $42,000. And because his is graded he thinks that it's the greatest thing to happen since the Run DMC/Aerosmith collaboration(which was awesome by the way). So by his math, if a non-graded one sold for $42,000 then his graded copy should sell for atleast triple that. But the good news is that a portion is still going to the Japanese earthquake relief fund....if it sells.

Quite right, though it makes me wonder if the price he is asking for was for fun. I just realized he is asking $133,700...isn't this "leet speak" for "leet"? Maybe he is priced it on purpose to make those how know "leet" think "WOW AWESOME!"?

Interesting...the seller now raised his BIN price to... $500,000!!!!
So his $133,700 was perhaps a placeholder...but by raising it to $500,00 that implies he wants ALOT of cash for the item, perhaps something like 1/2 of the asking price as a minimum.
Does anyone think the item will sell? I know collector's can be desperate at times, but I don't think for such a high price anyone would be interested. Though I've been surprised in the past...

I'd get a stolen credit card, buy the game, and run off with the item just to teach him a lesson.
Greedy bastard. It's not so much the price, it's the Japan donation that pisses me off. He won't give them a cent, I'm sure of it.

I doubt it, the last one sold for less than 10% of that asking price. And it should be less, now that another sealed one is known it means sealed ones aren't as rare as people thought. Still pretty rare, but not as rare as it used to be. Wasn't that one that sold for $40,000+ the only known sealed one at the time?
Imagine if 2 more boxed copies of that Air Raid turned up, would any sell for as much as the first known boxed copy? Not likely.

I always wondered if the buyer actually paid...some sources say yes, others say no. Would love to find out.

The only way I can see another boxed copy sell for more is if it's rated by the accursed VGA. Or if it came with the manual, if any actually exist. Or if it's a different box than what is known...which would really spice things up a bit! LOL
I understand rated games go for a bit more, but I don't think the difference should be 10x the original price. Maybe a few thousand more, give or take.
