Hello,
A local store in my area has an unfolded display box for Half Life for the Sega Dreamcast. It is probably 20 x 20 x 4 and it looks like it has never been put together. I know little about it, but I know that this game was slated for production and the plug got pulled at the last second. It was so close to release that many game magazines published reviews for it and bradygames even made a strategy guide for it that got released, which is now a bit of a collector's item in and of itself.
However, I don't actually own this thing yet. The store owner knows that this game was unreleased and knows that it is of some value. We haven't talked brass tax yet, but he probably wants somewhere between 50-100 bucks for it.
Now to be clear, I'm not the biggest DC collector out there. I like the DC, but I just don't have many games for it and it isn't the biggest "collecting" thing for me. I certainly respect the system and Sega, but I can just never find games for it in the wild so my system remains mostly unused. If eBay prices for the games weren't so crazy-ridiculous, I'm sure Id enjoy my DC more and have more games for it, but alas, I don't. That being said, what do you think this thing is worth?
I have no intention of buying it to make money on it. I just may want to get it because it is so unique and nearly one of a kind. Also, there may be some big DC collectors out there, (of which I know there are many, especially here on DP. They are so damn ravenous - ha ha), and I could use this to trade for the SNES stuff I'm looking for, maybe get this into the hands of someone who would really appreciate it.
Let me know what you think. Honestly, I can't see anyone paying more than $100 for a display box, even crazy Dreamcast fans, so I'd say I would probably pay about the approx. worth of it just to get it. If that's the case, it may not be worth it for me. However, i could buy it for one of you guys if someone was really interested. I wouldn't charge you anything extra for doing it; I'm not that kinda guy and I like to support other collectors, not rip them off.
Let me know what you think. Sorry there are no pics, but then again, it's not like I have this thing.
Thanks,
Chris
