6.37 works fine on my 3000. Presumably you tried multiple UMDs? Being an older system, maybe your drive has died.

Perhaps Sony attempting to erase UMD's efficacy not only on the hardware that can't physically support it? Or PSN sales trending down? LOL

My psp 2000 isn't having a problem I haven't attempted to update my 1000 in a long time.

The UMD drive may have died. I know that my PSP1000 and 2000(Japan model,) the UMD drive went out.

With the PSP2000 it hasn't really died, but it gives a high pitch screeching sound like it's rubbing against something and I'm really bad when it comes to taking apart stuff so I'd rather not. I think it's the motor because whenever I have no UMD in there it's fine, but whenever a UMD is in the drive(I tested it out on Liberty City Stories because I hate the game) it gives that sound whenever loading anything. It's not the UMD drive itself because it doesn't scratch the game, so it's something internally.

With PSP3000s so cheap now, why not upgrade. If you don't use headphones the volume is in a better location than it is on a 1000(in front rather than on the bottom,) a better color and supposedly high quality screen. Also starting with the PSP2000, there's a new cache option that makes some PSP games load faster than on the 1000(much faster, though some aren't too much faster and not noticeable.) I haven't opened mine, but I still have it as a back up. As soon as I do start using my PSP3000, I'll only rip the games I purchase and then play them straight from the memory stick. That way I don't have this problem with my UMD drive not for a long time. I'll eventually get a PSP Go so I can then play all my games on my tv with a Sixaxis.

Have you tried out another game besides GTA? The UMD casing itself can sometimes cause that if the clear plastic top is pressed down a bit and starts rubbing when the disc inside is spun.
