With the release of the 3ds do you think that they will re-release the virtual boy games, maybe in color this time?

Re-release virtual boy games, maybe.

In color, no.

I don't see why they wouldn't be in color. There were so few Nintendo releases that would be worthwhile to rerelease as downloads that I have a hard time picturing them going to the trouble of creating a 3DS emulator for it just to release 5 old games or so.

If they're ports, which would make the most sense I imagine with the given hardware and the trouble of creating an emulator, I'm sure we'll see improvements like the addition of color.

I wouldn't be shocked in the least to see them do something similar for a few of their own Virtual Boy games as they've done with their old Game & Watch line of LCD handhelds in various handheld compilations over the years.

The whole point of the Virtual Boy was to make your eyes bleed and your head hurt. I don't know if the 3DS is capable of that.

When I read the title, I thought this thread was going to be some lame trollbait about how the 3DS is just a new VB and it will bomb too. I was going to take that bait and come in raging. LOL

Anyway, it's possible Nintendo might want to remake some of the old VB games, but I'd think it more likely to see the VB games put on Virtual Console. If that's the case, they'll be direct ports, in all their red glory.

I'm going to say it is probably unlikely. The time it would take to make a Virtual Boy emulator for the Wii or port the games to the 3DS would probably be not worth the time and effort of Nintendo as their probably is not enough demand. Still, I hope I'm wrong so I can play Wario Land VB.

It'd seem so (given that I don't think more than 11 of the 22 VB games would be released, due to being licensed or from dead publishers/developers), but then again this is Nintendo. Apparently they couldn't even manage to support the Zapper or SNES mouse on the Virtual Console. :P

Ah, heck: since it's so small, why not name-drop the entire VB library in both the US and Japan?
Games likely to be released if they did (8): Mario's Tennis, Mario Clash, Galactic Pinball, Teleroboxer, VB Wario Land, Nester's Funky Bowling, Space Invaders Virtual Collection, SD Gundam Dimension War (Japanese, Bandai's released a few Gundam games, why not this one?).

Games less likely but still possible (5):
Vertical Force and Panic Bomber if Konami allows Hudson VC releases to continue, and Jack Bros. if Atlus feels like supporting VC (since the only VC games they (can?) release in Japan are Shin Megami Tensei games).
Virtual Fishing (Pack-In-Video/Marvelous), though I don't know anyone's actually released a fishing game on VC.
Probably won't see Virtual League Baseball since Kemco appears to be dead as a console publisher.

Games unlikely to be released (9): because they came from dead companies (Golf, Red Alarm, Mansion of Insmouse, Virtual Bowling, Virtual Lab, Space Squash) and/or licensed (V-Tetris, 3D Tetris, Waterworld).

Though if Dragon Hopper (an action/RPG?) could be released, it'd be sweet. I hear that if it came out, it might've challenged Wario Land for best VB game. Hopefully Nintendo kept a copy, as otherwise one collector out there is the only person in the world who can play it. :(

Nintendo wouldn't even give the Virtual Boy a full year release cycle when it was shiny and new, why do you think they'd ever care to go back to that well?

Don't get me wrong, I love the VB but I can't see them ever touching it again.

I'd love it if they released VB games on the 3ds. I'd buy every one if em.

My preference would be to keep them red, or at least an option to keep em red.

I'd consider putting the money down if Waterworld was available for it.

I see a "Virtual Boy Collection" compilation release. Maybe 3 games, then if it's successful we'd see a Volume 2, 3, etc. Why not? The code is written, just translate it slap it on a card and it's free money for Nintendo!

I learned in my college dorm to never trust someone who says "allow me to invite you to my new poll." :)

Actually that's a great idea.

Not a bad idea, though I doubt it would make it as a retail release... as a Club Nintendo prize though...

Nintendo isn't much for compilations.

I imagine if we saw them released, they would be ports that were released on 3DSWare, similar to the standalone Game & Watch recreations on DSiWare.

I'm almost positive that Nintendo does NOT want the 3DS to be associated in the public's mind w/ the Virtual Boy. I can't see this happening. (And anyway I'd still not get Insmouse no Yakata, so screw it!)

In the public's mind, if they saw a mention of the Virtual Boy, they wouldn't even know what it was most likely. It made a very small impact years ago and most of their consumer base is unaware of it in 2011.

The only people that are going to stand up and take notice at such a thing are going to be the people that actually played one back in the day that might not mind revisiting some of the software on a better device, and those that are aware of the thing and were always curious about it.

Are you seeing people playing their DS at somewhere like a airport terminal talking about how Nintendo is rereleasing old Game & Watch games from many years before on the DSiWare service? That certainly made more of a splash than the Virtual Boy did and has seen several compilations of classics from it over the years since then. But hardly anyone outside of the type that would visit somewhere like Digital Press are aware of what a Game & Watch was in 2011 and hardly take notice when Nintendo does something with it like release a collection based on it.

Awareness of something like the Virtual Boy simply doesn't exist in the public's mind. They can't connect the 3DS with something they're unaware of and almost certainly wouldn't even notice if it did happen.
