Is there a way to back up PS1 saves to the computer?

I know you can do it on the PS2 and 3 with certain peripherals. Do similar ones exist for the PS1?

I ask because things like the Mega Memory Card and the Massive Memory Card only really work on an actual PS1, and I seem to remember hearing that they can corrupt save data. But, you know, I don't want to get all the endings in Bushido Blade and then have to delete them just to make room for the next game I play, you know?

(I actually do have a Mega and a Massive memory card, so if all the sour talk about them is baseless then I'll be happy)

Keep in mind that a Dex Drive will need to be recognized by a SERIAL port, and is typically only compatible with Windows 98/2000.

You can just buy an Serial to USB adapter. It'll work fine with XP and W7. Funny thing is the adapter will probably be twice the price of a Dexdrive. Still, you can pick both up for under $20.

Yeah, but I'm pretty sure the Dex Drive software will not recognize the serial port (or the drive attached to it) on one of those USB ports running in a Win XP or higher environment.

If memory serves, not many of the Win 98 serial port transfer devices like Dex Drive, Bung GB Flash Cart Loader, etc. made the jump to the way Win XP deals with data transfer through serial ports and nobody ever patched the existing software or made new software for those devices that worked.

This is a great option for "storing" PS1 saves if you have a PS2 with some space on a PS2 memory card.

Don't use the Dex Drive's crappy own software. Download Dexter.

I just picked up a PlayStation Dex Drive for my fiance, and he got it working just fine from a serial port on a PC running Windows 7.

The Dex Drive is really cool. But, really, if you only have one PS1 memory card, that's half of your problem. The system is so old and the cards so cheap that there's no reason to not get a few.

I have something like 15 ps1 memory cards and spent all of last saturday morning backing them up on to my ps3 and psx desr's hard drives, lol theres another option for you

With said adapter, you should be able to copy to an SD card or USB flash drive. No need for a PSP.

I wasn't aware that the same methods that work for the PS2 could also work for the PS1.

Also I was hoping somebody could give me more info about the Mega and Massive Memory Cards and whether or not they really are junk.

I have an Interact card with 24 "pages" and it seems to have held up rather well. My original FF8 save is still on there...

It works in XP and is much more intuitive than the default software.

Thanks for the update on the Dex Drive stuff. Good to know that it works on systems above 98 with the newer software.... there was a decent stretch of time when XP came out that I (and many others) desparately searched for options and none were available.
