Have any of you guys seen the new Sonic teaser video yet? If not, here's something to possibly get excited about... OLD SONIC!

I wrote about the trailer just a bit ago (I'll share a link if you are interested) but I'm curious what you guys think about it? Looks to be coming to Xbox 360 and PS3 (no Wii) later this year (no official date but "Coming 2011").

The trailer looks cool! Too bad this isn't coming for the Wii. :(

Yeah, the Wii has Sonic Colors as an exclusive, but this is Sonic's 20th anniversary game we're talking about!

*Sigh* I guess this is another sign that I should save up for a PS3. (Well, once I have a job that is.)

Guess Sonic 4 is dead?

Sega needs to stick with something and work at it. Trailer seems cool, but I have said that before. I don't understand how new sonic and old sonic in one game makes sense, but hey whatever. It couldn't get worse right?

Last I heard they were working on Episode 2 and they were still progressing, that was only a few weeks ago iirc.

Trailer looks good, I love the model and animation of the Classic Sonic model. When see what the game is like and so on then I'll maybe get excited. :p

Sonic 4, episode 2 is coming. While this trailer doesn't reveal much in terms of gameplay, as long as Sega continues and refines what the day stages in Unleashed started I'll be happy.

Sega, please continue to focus on Sonic only! No one gives a fuck about his stupid friends in this main adventures.

A new 3D Model Sonic with a classic look? Much better!

And Sonic 4 was absolutely terrible, they should kill it anyway, the idea of it being episodic plus the terrible physics just makes it not fun to play.

Just because it didn't play exactly like the Genny versions doesn't mean it was terrible. I dug the graphics, soundtrack and gameplay and think it's a worth addition to any Sonic fan's library. It can't stand up to the Rush series, but it's solid enough.

Here we go again.

Anyone want to put money on when they reveal the mandatory bonus levels starring a vampire lifeguard version of Big the Cat? Or the on rails shooter segments featuring Shadow, may his chromed out glock cap bitches forever?

I mean, HAVEN'T WE BEEN HERE BEFORE? LIKE IN THE LAST EIGHT MONTHS?

Nz17

Right now all we have is this video, an approximate release date (summer or fall of 2011), the early leak from last year that this is supposed to be a modernization of the best Mega Drive/Genesis era stages in an engine much like Sonic Unleashed/Colors, and the title "Sonic Generations." So let the rampant though justified speculation begin!

I suppose that Sonic might travel back in time to work with his younger self to help avert some calamity, and that the game acts as a bridge between Sonic old-school and Sonic new-school. Perhaps the game has the game-play of Colors, but with no story and the option to pick-your-Sonic.

All I know is that I'm still waiting on the official announcement of the Sonic 3DS game. We collectively know there is one, just no details have surfaced. Might be a port or another version of "Generations," might be something else entirely.

Shadow: may his chromed-out Glock cap bitches forever.

So hilarious, this needs to be preserved in brushed metal as a plaque.

Er, I was, uh, having a difficult adjustment period at that time. I mean, I was thinking things like, what could be more ULTIMATE than the Ultimate Weapon than the weapon fired by and enhanced by the original U.W., Holmes.

I... don't say Holmes any more.

I would laugh if they gave classic Sonic good physics, and modern Sonic bad physics as usual, and then he dies because of it and only the classic Sonic can make it past the obstacle that requires good physics to pass. Everybody thought he was an imposter. Maybe it's true.

Hell, even the Genesis games themselves didn't play exactly like each other. Sonic was never Mega Man.

Ah, the cycle:

1) Initial trailer, everyone (i.e., Sonic Retro) gets excited.
2) Sega throws in Dimps engine(s), Super Zombie Big the Cat, another one-game throwaway character, Eggman isn't the actual final boss, etc.
3) It's released, everyone groans, the usual "Z0MG GREEN EYES/ CONFUSING PLOT" is yelled out, cue the 20 or so Platinum Hits copies in the cheapo bin at Wal Mart.
4) Wipe slate, rewind tape and play again.

Being different doesn't make it terrible, but being terrible does. The physics are so awkward it really kills the flow of the game and makes it awkward to try to speedrun levels.

For what it's worth, I really liked Sonic Rush and that was about as different from the Genesis games as you can get.

Crikey, it really is the Sonic Cycle all over again.

Remember how good Sonic Unleashed looked initially?

And Sonic's portions of Unleashed were generally fun and amazing. I'm no Sega or Sonic apologist; the main 3D platforming games certainly weren't flawless as a whole, but Sonic's parts were almost always worth playing. Sega finally found a fun direction for the 3D Sonics with the day levels in Unleashed and showed they understand what makes a great game: Sonic minus his stupid friends.

I'm excited about generations, and core fans who hung in there regardless of what the critics say will likely be rewarded.

I really love what I see in this trailer. I'm definetely looking forward to this game, I hope the C.Sonic physics work better than in Sonic 4. I have nothing bad to say about S4, I enjoyed it, just sometimes the physic was stiff. I tried to look at the trailer and C.Sonic gameplay and see is it stiff or not. Someone needs to get hands on to confirm it. I'm not blaming sega not getting physics right, it's just the old Sonic Team ppl have left and they have to do everything on scratch to get as close physics as the classics were by looking the old games, as they can not copy from assembler and put it in the new game. Thats what Tiido told me when I asked about this. It's nice that they try to do it instead of ignoring. How can you improve when nobody tells what's done wrong? It's still a respect that they try their best to get it as close as possible. Sonic 4 didn't come out that well, like others say, then they try next time better and know what they did wrong. (I hope)

Otherwise everything I see there is beatiful.I love the detail on the GHZ, everything looks so happy and colourful, just what I love.

I just played the new demo for Sonic Generations(exclusive to XBL Gold members for a few days I think) and it is amazing. You actually get to test out two demos but the first is a rehash of the previous released demo while the second is the new perspective that was similiarly used in Sonic Adventure. It finally feels like Sonic can move at super sonic speed and the addition of a boost button makes it even faster. This one is starting to move up my want list.

Emuaust

I share different opinions, the classic mode IMO blows chunks, there is some type of bluriness, mixed with the camera being too close most of the time and sonic only having a pretty megre jump made for some awful playing.

As for Modern Sonic, Sega almost have it right but there is a stupid physics issue that near kills it for me, when you're running at speed and you jump and press the jump button again to do a homing attack sonic loses inertia when he hits the ground, it just feels stupid. Apart from that though it had a great mix of 3d and 2d that puts the classic mode to utter shame, if they could fix that one stupid bug(they're Sega so they wont" then they could be onto a winner.

The Windows version was up for pre-order already at a number of European retailers. However now Steam finally has Sonic Generations for pre-order at $30 USD, and the pre-order bonuses you get are "Sonic 3D Blast" and "Sonic 3 & Knuckles." These are the emulated SEGA Genesis ones.

A new playable demo of Sonic Generations is circulating already in Europe for XBOX 360 and PlayStation 3 and should be available here in North America for everyone soon.

As am I - I have been waiting months for Steam (or lacking it, any other quality digital download service) to finally offer a pre-order for the game. As soon as I saw Steam was at last offering one, I went and made my order. :) Now just to wait for November 4 so I can play it! I went with the stupid expensive route of importing the collectors edition, it just has way too many goodies for me to pass up although it has effectively killed my game spending until the vita's release. lol

I am also interested in the 3DS version depending on how many levels aren't just shared between the two. The videos have showed that Green Hill are shared between the pc/console and 3DS versions but it looks like Casino Night, Mushroom Hill, and the sonic 3 boss fight are going to be 3DS exclusives. I actually kinda wanna hold out hope that a vita version with extras is released eventually but I have no basis for that assumption.

I have been playing Sonic Generations today and it was a blast! (Pun intended.) I even played through the whole story mode in just one day, a good sign of the quality of fun. And the game has plenty of extra stages and content in the form of Red Ring collecting to unlock stuff in the Gallery, Challenge Stages to play (which are whole new stages using the existing graphics and not rehashes of the main stages like in Sonic Unleashed), new abilities to unlock and purchase using in-game points, and online leaderboards and time attack. 49 achievements too.

I've been playing the Steam version of Sonic Generations. I had one technical hiccup along the way that prevented me from playing for the first two days (if you have an nVidia chipset the game will depend on PhysX - make sure it is installed or Sonic Generations will crash). After that though - woah! The game looks fantastic, even better than the console counterpart from what I hear. And fun fun fun! Blasts Sonic Colors outta the water!

Who else is playing? For those who haven't, any questions you'd like answered about Sonic Generations? And for those who bought the Collection's Edition (A.K.A. Limited Edition) how are the expensive extras?

I just got my copy today!

This game is a textbook case of a nostalgia bomb and I love it. I actually find myself linking the modern stages more then the classic due to the little things that are just different enough to bug someone who plays "classic" sonic all the time like the constant uncurling or a certain loosness to classic sonic's control but overall still really fun to play.

The music kills it for me though, brings back so many memories while still being really good remixes of the older songs. I've only found a few that I generally didn't like but those were songs that I didn't like in the first place (like Speed Highway). I skipped out on pretty much every console sonic game after Sonic Adventure until Colors so I didn't experience the Sonic Cycle but hearing Sonic Unleashed's Rooftop run make me kinda wanna play that game now.

I've only played a few of the challenge maps and they were pretty fun so far, and genuinely challenging if going for the S rank. I also havent messed around with the Perks system yet but seems like an interesting idea.

And Now Geek Cred :p

The PS3 version supports stereoscopic 3D. The 3D isn't bad, but it doesn't seem to really enhance the game. Regardless, the game has totally rocked so far, save for some frame issues here and there.

Post with spoilers!

Just finished the game and man it was a blast. I gotta a kick outta every little thing in the game from Sonic blatantly holding Amy back with one hand, Knuckles fat joke if you see him as classic sonic, and Tails expressing his concern over the megamack in chemical plant. The game itself was pretty short like "classic" sonic games but the challenge maps have added a lot of content. I've found that I tend to enjoy running through the traditonal stages slightly more fun as Modern Sonic but the challenge maps for classic sonic are much funner to play. I haven't run though every challenge map yet but its definitely a game I'm going to try to max out. :)

The only weak point IMO for the game was Crisis City and most of the bosses. Crisis City is just a weak stage IMO and was just too frustrating to be much fun, not so much difficult as it was cheap. The bosses on the other hand were way too easy and I only found one of them to be midly interesting as a boss. The are all on-rails affairs and are very very simple, I was pretty disappointed with this aspect of the game but thankfully their are only 6 of them and they are all over pretty quickly. The final boss in particular was a huge disappointment in mechanics and just became another foot in the BOOST TO WIN! joke.

Favorite level: Rooftop Run
In both versions of this level the music is just so kickass I cant help but listen to it for a while. Both versions of the level also are both beautiful and fun to play with a ton of branching paths that just felt really awesome whizzing by at top speed as both modern and classic sonic. Overall just really fun and something I am definitely going to come back every once in a while just to run through.

Least Favorite Level: Crisis City
I raged so hard at this level for all of the cheap deaths and random pitfalls that I quick playing the game for a while to chill out. The music is good and the visuals are stunning but the level itself isant designed very well, you never seem to be rewarded with picking up speed and rather are punished again for the lackluster design and random pitfalls. This stage was a chore and I've avoided the most of its challenge maps because I really just don't want to deal with it.

Favorite Boss: Metal Sonic/Egg Dragon
I tied them both because although Metal SOnic's actuall fight is nothing spectacular it was pretty cool to play an up rez-ed version of the Sonic CD race, as dumbed down as it was. The remix was nice and the stage was pretty but again the boss fight was just way too formulaic and easy.

The Egg Dragoon fight was fun because it actually resembled a real boss fight. It was still far too easy but at the very least the boss changed up his attacks and you had multiple ways to attack him. It was ok but again just teh "best" in a disappointing part of this game.

Overall I really dug this game. It was fun a stuck to the old sonic formula of easy to play but challenging when you push it. I really hope this game sees expensive DLC post release support but somehow I doubt that is going to happen. This formula of using Classic and Modern Sonic worked really well and I am pretty bummed now that SEGA has basically said this is a one-off. Hopefully they'll change their minds because this game was pretty damn good.
