Young Gamers aren't stupid people!

Recently, at another gaming board I visit, somebody was saying how people under the age of 25 or so don't know jack about retro games and should't even bother posting on message boards, needless to say, this irritated me to no end.

Why do people feel the need to bash young gamers, we are the future of gaming, we will be making YOUR grandchidrens games.

Young people (if they apply theirselves) can know and learn just as much if not more than adults about retro or modern day games.

Granted, the steriotype of all young gamers are that they just play for like a half hour a day, then go "hang out" and "have lives" ect.
Well, I cannot speak for most young gamers, but myself, all I do is play games, when I am not playing, I think about games, or read about games, it feels like it is in my blood or something. I am 15 years old, by no means am I just a regular kid "gamer", I took initiative, got my ass up, got a job just to be able to buy games, and to pay for my cable modem to buy games off ebay and off different people online.

So goddamnit, I am sick of hearing that young gamers don't know anything, because some of us actually could teach you a thing or two.

You are so right Starcade,I am 17yrs old and I love video games with all my heart and soul,they are what I was born and put on this planet for,they are my family.It's fantastic to try and get to know everything you can about video games and collect as much as you can,I know I do,but what matters most above all else is how much fun you have with video games and how much love and respect you have for video games,NO MATTER WHAT ANYBODY SAYS.I dont care what anybody says about me,I know I have more love and respect for video games than anybody else on this planet and thats what matters most.If anybody makes fun of me or even you/younger gamers,piss on them because your right we probably know more about video games than more than half of everybody on this forum.Now I know everybody is probably gonna start posting saying prove everything I just said,But you know what I dont have to prove anything to anybody,I know how much love and respect I have for video games and thats all that matters. :D :D :D

It's easy for people to have a negative view of all younger gamers when certain younger gamers make such asses of themselves. Some younger kids make really stupid trade offers. Some younger kids back out of trades all the time. Some younger kids don't know what the hell they're talking about, and make ridiculous posts all over the place. Even though I'm a younger gamer myself, I can't help but look down upon the gamefaqs boards. Go look at them. You can tell that the majority of people there are kids who don't know what they're talking about. Gametz is another good example, because 90% of the offers you get there are from dumb kids who don't know any better. It's easy to miss the occasional young person who knows what they're talking about among the mass of stupid junior high kids.

That being said, not all of us younger people are bad. Some of us younger people contribute a lot more than some of the older people. You've just got to keep in mind that the idiots far outweigh us smart-folk, and the idiots aren't going away any time soon. :-D

That is true to, most young gamers dont know nothing about games but want to act like they know more than the experts.That really pisses me off.I am 17yrs old and I know that I know my stuff about video games and I am a video game expert/historian,but like I said in my first post its not how much you know about video games, it's how much love and respect you have for video games and I know that no younger gamers have that except for me,hell most adults dont even have that.Im not trying to get off on the wrong foot with anybody,im just telling you how I feel about the subject.

i'd agree 99%, that 1% is reserved for djcapcomkid, spitfire, whatever name you're hiding under now. glad i asked you to ship first, yawn, is 5 months long enough for you to scrape up postage? no but seriously i see no real age problem, retrogaming makes perfect sense for those on a limited budget anyways. just dont be scared of all the beer drinking at our trademeet ;)

I myself am 17 and agree 100% with Sega Hitman. The majority of people our age are absurdly immature when it comes to speech about gaming. I find that most gamers in this age range who grew up with games from the age of 2 or 3 are the one's who mature the most over the years. Lets face it folks, if presented and accepted in the right way and fashion, Video Games only create proactive imaginations and a higher level of knowledge for kids growing up with them. Heck, I learned how to read by playing RPG's like Dragon Warrior and ShadowGate.

What can be argued today is the fact that games no longer require you to use your imagination and mind. It's all to detailed and real. No more text to read, everything is laid out for you in 128 bits. I only hope my theory is wrong for the sake of youth today.

But for god's sake, don't bring back that god forsaken young guns section, that had disaster written all over it from the get go.

Younger gamers rock, dude. But I agree, a lot of younger "gamers" don't know shit and make the rest of us look bad. I'm 18 myself, and it's happened to me. But as soon as I opened my mouth, they shut up. It's great when you show them just what you know and not make an ass of yourself. It's so cool to watch grown men and women (mostly men) who think they know more than you squirm when you show them up. :D

I'll agree that a lot of young gamers aren't stupid. I've had several gamers 18 and under visit my sites and email me about them, and usually they're intelligent and know what they're talking about. That alone gives me hope for the future (I'm 28, btw).

But when you get some punk that's saying ignorant stuff like "all games before PlayStation suck because the graphics suck" or something stupid like that... well, I have no patience for them. I'd like to whack them in the crotch with a croquet mallet, to tell you the truth.

I'm also 16 years old and I have alot of appreciation for older systems. I own many vintage systems and I love collecting and playing games as a whole. Gamefaqs is just a waste of time cuz everyone over there tries to act like there better than everyone else when in actuality most of them don't know very much. Im just hoping that more kids as young as us can appreciate the classics :)

I'm only 13 years old and I don't care if a game has bad graphics or anything like that. I only like games that have fun gameplay.
