So as I mentioned over here (http://www.digitpress.com/forum/showpost.php?p=1806954&postcount=96), I bought a few PS2 GameShark discs at the flea market. I tried 'em out and none of them will boot on my slim PS2.

Since I know next to nothing about cheat devices in general, am I missing something here? Will these discs only work on early fat PS2s? Or is that GameShark memory card required? I tried it on my system and uh, it didn't -fit- in the memory card slot. It just kinda hit something and wouldn't go any further in.

Any advice?

Use the Gameshark memory card that you got with them, that should make them boot up.

... It doesn't fit. It just kinda... stops halfway through.

Crap.

AFAIK Gameshark for PS2 works fine on slim PS2s. The Gameshark Memory Card thing can be a bit stiff/tight to get in to the memory card slot.

Figure out what's stopping it, it should fit in there.

As Frankie said, the GS memory card is a bit annoying to get in there. Try putting it in as far as you can and try booting it up.

That's what she said.

I recall having a tough time with those things, too. They're cheaply produced and not exactly to spec.

Bought one in like 2002, one of the disc went blank, or the stupid memory card thingy went blank, even though the other disc worked. It was a ps1/ps2 disc"s combo. Never bought one since, might still have it, anybody need parts from it?

Well, I stuck it in as far as it could go (enough with the jokes, come on) and the system won't recognize the memory card or boot the discs. I'm sure the discs are fine, it's the memory card that worries me.

But wait, does the dongle go in slot 1 or slot 2? I was using it in slot 1.

I don't think it matters which slot it goes in, try slot 2 and see what happens. The memory card was the first thing that died on me with the old PS1 Gameshark CD version, wouldn't be surprised if your card is dead.

A little bit of an update.

I decided to do things differently this time around, and I managed to get the PS1 Code Archive Disc to boot by coldstarting the system instead of turning it on and inserting a disc afterwards. It went straight to a video... which I couldn't see. I only heard the audio. I couldn't skip it either, which is weird. This same thing happened with another Gameshark disc I found at a flea market a year ago.

The PS2 discs still refused to load though, so I suspect this particular PS2 model is to blame. I was reading this support page for the Action Replay (http://www.datelcustomerservice.com/PS2-ARMax.shtml) and it says that slim PS2s won't recognize older versions of their product, so I think the same thing is happening with my discs.

I appreciate the help.
