About a week ago my mom let me rent a blockbuster game. I was going to rent dynasty warriors, but Unlimited Saga caught my eye. I brought it home to play, and felt something go horribly horribly wrong. As I played, I found the stories very uninteresting. The whole "chess" style of moving is just plain wrong. The attack system is the worst peice of s*** i have ever seen. it involves spinning a slot machine. Excuse me! i paid for a solid RPG not golden nugget 2003!! From confusing battle systems to bad item, weapon, and adventure systems, this game is the worst squaresoft could put out at the time. I hope X-2 is much better.
So I guess i posted this just to ask if anyone else has played this crappy squarenix game and had the same troubles i had. If you like this game...well then go get an MRI asap.

Wow, you found it at Blockbuster? My local BVs didn't have it, so I had to go to a Family Video a few towns over. Upon reflection, it may not have been worth the trip.
In truth, I actually like a few of Unlimited Saga's ideas, such as the combination attacks and ability system. Those are, however, merely evolutions of concepts from older Saga titles, and most of the new elements in Unlimited are unrewarding. The board-game dungeons are tedious, and the in-battle wheels of chance just get in the way. The art's nice, and some of the characters are appealing, but the stories are trite and the conversation scenes, which maneuver the cast like cardboard cutouts, are pretty bland.
I honestly can't tell if Unlimited Saga suffered because of budget constraints, or if director Akitoshi Kawazu actually wanted it like this. Either way, it's not worth more than a rental, at most.
Yet I'll stop short of calling it the worst RPG on the PlayStation 2. Yes, for all of its drawbacks, Unlimited Saga is still more fun than Ephemeral Fantasia.
Eh, at least EF had some nice swingy boobs to look at.
Btw, US was originally meant to be a Final Fantasy Unlimited-based game but that plan got scrapped when the show tanked. So, the US we know and hate today was based on what was salvaged from the aborted FFU project. That's one reason why the game's so... incoherent.

Actually, that's one of the reasons why I'd rate US higher than EF. At least US didn't throw out some God-awful joke about the massive mammaries of a guard named "Rummy."

Unlimited Saga was on ebay on release day for $25 BIN brand new/sealed NTSC U.S. version.
That's how bad it is.
