I need a suggestion for a next DS game to play. Probably an RPG or tactical RPG, I love em and they're easy to play at night in bed before falling asleep. I've been trying to find an RPG, but all the ones I haven't played that I've looked at have very offputting reviews.

RPG's I've played and liked on DS

The World Ends With You (one of my favorite games)
Etrian Odyssey I & II (I want to play III, but I just finished II and am burned out)
Chrono Trigger
Shin Megami Tensei
Disgaea
Fire Emblem
Knights in the Nightmare (another great unusual game)
Valkyrie Profile
Mario & Luigi

I don't like Dragon Quest games, and I really despise the final fantasy remakes graphical engine.

So any suggestions? Doesn't have to be an RPG, but that's probably the most likely next game I'll play.

I'm picking up what you're putting down; our tastes overlap.

You play Radiant Historia yet? It's quality; seriously.

No, I haven't, and reading around it does look really good, too! Excellent suggestion, thanks!

a thousand times yes to Radiant Historia

I would also highly recommend:
- Rondo of Swords
- Might and Magic Clash of Heroes
- Sands of Destruction (one of my fav rpgs on DS)
- any of the Castlevanias
- Suikoden Teirkries (lengthy...took my 50-60 hours i believe)

and there are too many more to list....if you don't like these let me know, I can list a few more haha.

Games not on your list. Castlevania series, Retro Game Challenge, Contra 4, Rub Rabbits, Feel the Magic, Jump Ultimate Stars, and Contact. Best games I've played on the system.

I also suggest Radiant Historia. It has been an excellent game. I also enjoy RPG's but also like Hotel Dusk, Phoenix Wright series, 999: Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors, Trace Memory.

You could try The Dark Spire, but it's a little like Etrian Odyssey.Advanced Wars is pretty good, Pokemon is good, but you only get back what you put in.Lock's Quest is good, but I lost it, so I never got to beat it.

Great suggestions, all! A lot of them I've played (I forgot about Rondo of Swords, that was a GREAT game, I wish a sequel would come out).

Any more thoughts on Sands of Destruction? It seems people love it or hate it. I'm looking for Radiant Historia but having a hard time finding it, haha.

Infinite Space... Been trying to get a copy myself. It's not going well. LOL

This is the unmentioned cream of the crop:

- Atelier Annie: Alchemists of Sera Island (tactical)
- Drone Tactics (tactical)
- Final Fantasy Tactics A2: Grimoire of the Rift (tactical, this one is in 2d so it doesn't have the graphical engine issues that put you off)
- Front Mission (tactical)
- Luminous Arc (1 is tactical, 2 and 3 are RPGs, 3 is japan only)
- Dawn of Heroes (tactical)
- Dokapon Journey
- Golden Sun: Dark Dawn
- Cross Treasures (japan only)
- Lufia: Curse of the Sinistrals
- Lunar Knights (action RPG)
- SaGa 2: Goddess of Destiny (japan only)
- Magical Starsign
- Soma Bringer (action RPG, japan only)
- Sigma Harmonics (japan only)
- Summon Night X: Tears Crown (japan only)
- Summon Night: Twin Age
- Super Robot Taisen OG Saga: Endless Frontier
- Tales of Innocence (japan only)
- 7th Dragon (japan only)
- LostMagic
- Element Hunters (japan only)

Pretty much all of the japan only games listed have translation patches available should you need one.
There are also a bunch of good roguelikes, such as Shiren the Wanderer and Izuna 1 and 2, if you're into those.
I assume you've played both Shin Megami Tenseis as well as both Mario & Luigi games.
You don't like Dragon Quest games, but how about Dragon Quest Heroes? Rocket Slime is really good and not at all like the regular DQ series.

Oh, and I second Radiant Historia, Contact and Suikoden Tierkreis. Those are awesome.
Sands of Destruction is just okayish. There are many better ones to be played first. I have more recommendations of slightly flawed games, but I suggest checking out the above list first.

Definitely look into Contact and Golden Sun.

I would suggest Lunar: Dragon Song. I know it got bad reviews, but I had a good time with it. But then, I'm a big fan of the series (Silver Star Story for the PS1 is one of my all time favorite games).

Another vote for Rondo of Swords and Luminous Arc 1/2 (2 is also a SRPG...).

I'm guessing you've already considered Pokemon?

Also:

Rhapsody: A Musical Adventure
Nostalgia
Golden Sun: Dark Dawn

All worth checking out for different reasons.

Not quite an RPG, but keep an eye out for Solatorobo: Red the Hunter that's coming out in July. It's a really fun action/adventure game with a quest system and RPGish elements.

If you don't mind random battles (or have a cheat device to tone them down), Black Sigil is an indie RPG in the oldskool mold - inspired by Lunar and Chrono Trigger. It's a little rough around the edges in a few places, but I liked it a lot. The really high random battle rate is the one thing that really bugged me about it.
