I'm waiting for any kinks to get worked out of the system before I sign back in. I'm actually switching to a new PS3 so I hope they recognize atleast some of my original log in information.

You download the update, sign in, and change your password. That's it. There aren't any kinks to work out.

You'll have to change your password on the PS3 that was using the account before, or use the e-mail account associated with the PSN account. Not sure if the e-mail password changing is live yet or not.

Anybody else having problems changing their passwords?
I did the update on my PS3, then was prompted to check my email to change the password. Every time I click on the link, either I get a server error or if it loads, the captcha image is not visible. A couple of times it appeared, I'd enter the characters correctly and click submit only for it to load the exact same page without a visible captcha image again.
This is frustrating!!

Have you tried a different browser? If you're using IE try it in Firefox or Chrome.

I've been using IE and Chrome.
After about an hour of this, I'm just NOW getting a "Site Maintenance Notice" stating the server is down for maintenance. I'll just have to wait longer. Blurg.

Well the account got started on my slim and I was going to switch over to my 60 gig backwards compatible one. However, I just realized that doing this would effectively kill my linux support so I'm probably just going to hook my slim back up.

The site is being hammered right now by untold thousands of people trying to change their password. Give it a few hours and if by then it doesn't work, wait a day or two and try again.
This is very normal even if your name is Akamai.

I'm curious how the location of the user or PS3 is ascertained. Anybody know?
I wonder if it's by your IP address, registration information, or access point. None of those measures is perfectly accurate, though I suppose they are sufficient for this matter.
I've wondered this before when looking at data about online accesses (website analytics, for example), this isn't really PS3-specific.

(Totally offtopic, but) Maritimes, represent! What province are you in?
Good question, Noah. I suppose a lot of accounts didn't actually use the store so they can't necessarily go by address.

It was under maintenance a little while back, like an hour or so?

Seems the PSN is back up just about everywhere now. No PSN Store yet.
