Splatterhouse was one of those must own games on the TurboGrafx-16. It had it all - gameplay, visuals, gore, chainsaws, gore and did I mention gore? Good thing there wasn't an ESRB back then or I wouldn't have been able to convince my mom to buy it at Babbages. :)

"This game brings back memories for me in very different ways than your average game. I started playing this game at the ripe old age of six and it gave me nightmares for years. There was one boss in particular, likely the most memorable of the entire series, named “Biggy Man” (unbelievable the names in this game) that has a bag over his head and chainsaws for arms. Pair that with the soundtrack for his fight and it’s downright terrifying."

Nice review!

Worth noting that there's a very nice version of the Splatterhouse arcade game from Namco on the iOS App Store.

They recently pushed an update that provides a much improved control stick more similar in form and function to the excellent arcade sticks that Capcom uses in a lot of their iOS arcade ports.

Nice review.. as someone who ran out to get Splatterhouse as soon as it was released I have to admit I was mildly dissappointed with it mostly because a lot of the gore from the arcade was gone (background graphics, etc.). But hey it ended up fine. :p

I remember being very impressed with Splatterhouse on TG16 back in the day. I never did pick it up back then, but it was a serious temptation to me the entire time I owned my TG16. I finally did pick it up for Christmas last year. I never knew the differences between the TG16 and Arcade game before that. Now I like to play two games!

Nice review. Strangely Biggy never gave me nightmares; Monster Jen on the other hand was a completely different story....

Hah! Looking back on it I think it was the music mixed with that white noise-ish chainsaw buzz in the background when you fight Biggy Man that really did me in.

I love this game, great port, though I did miss the intro scene that you get in the arcade.
