Hey guys,

Have any of you done this?

I'm thinking about getting the longhorn s-video/composite board here: http://cgi.ebay.com/Atari-7800-DIY-Install-S-Video-Composite-AV-Mod-Board-/290545810371?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item43a5e13bc3

Anybody have experience with this board? How tough was installation? How does the picture look? Any tips or other recommendations?

Thanks!

I have installed one without incident. The biggest thing is being able to desolder a chip from the board without pulling a pad off the board with it.

Yeah, that was my concern... I wish there was a way around that. There is another mod on ebay that looks like a simple transistor mod (composite only).

I wonder if I should just do something like that? It's a lot more basic to install.

I honestly reccomend you perform the mod listed in the atariage 2600 faq HERE. http://www.atariage.com/2600/faq/index.html?SystemID=2600#composite . I am referring to the CD4050 mod. It requires you to build a board, but you shalln't have to desolder anything from the motherboard.
And for fucks sakes, don't remove the RF. I killed a 6 switch that way.

Ok, that sounds cool, and it looks like a cool project but it looks like it's for a 2600. Will it work with a 7800? That's the system I was thinking of modding... OTOH, I played it the other day and the RF video is amazingly clear.
