This may be a tough one for some of the collectors out there with dozens of systems and hundreds of games. But, if you could only keep one classic console and five games to go along with it, what would you choose?
Mine would be:
Console: Super Nintendo
Games:
Super Mario World
Chrono Trigger
Donkey Kong Country
Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
Final Fantasy III (VI)

This was a tough one, but I'll have to choose the SNES over the NES.
SNES
Super Mario All-Stars + Super Mario World
Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island
Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest
Sparkster
Final Fight 3

Super NES here
Star Fox
Zelda: A link to the past
Final Fantasy III (VI)
Super Mario World
Super Metroid
There's no better classic console than the:
http://roomofdoom.powweb.com/gallery2/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=194793&g2_serialNumber=2
top five games would be:
http://roomofdoom.powweb.com/gallery2/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=194847&g2_serialNumber=2
http://roomofdoom.powweb.com/gallery2/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=194837&g2_serialNumber=2

http://roomofdoom.powweb.com/gallery2/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=304888&g2_serialNumber=3
but of course, on VCS it's hard, unlike the other consoles, it just has too many classics to choose from

Tom, you do know you can just type the name of the game and console and not post pictures of it, right? :p
For me, it's either Atari 2600 or SMS.
For SMS:
-Rastan
-Castle of Illusion
-Wonderboy III
-Alex Kidd in Miracle World
-Golvellious: Valley of Doom (might change)
For Atari 2600:
-Keystone Kapers
-Fantastic Voyage
-Solaris
-Towering Inferno
-Some other game I don't recall
Or better yet, give me a multicart capable cartridge so I can put all ROMS into the cart. :D

Tricky, but I'd go with-
Saturn
Sonic Jam (cheating, but I don't care)
Virtua Fighter 2
NiGHTS
Shining Force 3
Burning Rangers
Cornholio857
04-27-2011, 01:41 PM
Sega Genesis
Sonic 1
Sonic 2
Streets of Rage 2
Revenge of Shinobi
Shinobi 3
Swamperon
04-27-2011, 01:48 PM
It's a tough choice but probably the Saturn as most of my other favourite games from classic consoles have since been re-released on modern consoles. As for games:
Shining Force III
Dragon Force
NiGHTS
Saturn Bomberman
Guardian Heroes
tomwaits

Japanese Saturn for me. Limiting to 5 games is tough, but I'll go with...
- Street Fighter Zero 3
- X-men vs SF
- Radiant Silvergun
- Puyo Puyo Sun
- Capcom Generations 2 (cheating, but I don't care)

I wouldn't keep such a small assortment that was a mere shadow of what I had. I'd get rid of it all.

Man that's a hell of a choice. Even though I don't necessarily play these games much at all anymore, this would have to be my pick:
N64
- Goldeneye
- Zelda Ocarina of Time
- Super Mario 64
- Diddy Kong Racing (Superior gameplay to Mario Kart, believe it or not)
- Perfect Dark
Rickstilwell1
04-27-2011, 03:01 PM
Playstation:
Suikoden
Suikoden II
Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee
Beyond the Beyond
Alundra
NayusDante
04-27-2011, 03:02 PM
SNES
-Mega Man X
-Super Metroid
-Super Mario All-Stars + World
-Final Fantasy III
-Earthbound
Game Freak
04-27-2011, 03:09 PM
SNES:
Kirby's Dreamland 3
Super Mario World
Yoshi's Island
Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
Donkey Kong Country 2

-6-pak
-Menacer

Man it's difficult not to say SNES.
But I think I would go with the PSX with these 5:
- Suikoden II
- Final Fantasy Tactics
- Legend of Mana
- Castlevania Symphony of the Night
- Final Fantasy Anthology
you could take the Epoch pocket computer and its complete library of titles, which is 5 games.
Baloo
04-27-2011, 05:14 PM
I remember Chandler's Desert Island thread on this not too long ago, 5 games is much more reasonable than three!
I'd probably go with these:
Sega Saturn
NiGHTS Into Dreams
Burning Rangers
Fighters Megamix
SEGA AGES
Sonic Jam
NerdXCrewWill
04-27-2011, 05:15 PM
I'd go with the Playstation. My games would be:
Final Fantasy IV
Final Fantasy VI
Super Puzzle Fighter 2 Turbo
Fire Pro Wresting G
X-Com: Terror from the Deep (or plain ole X-Com, since TFtD is PAL only and I wouldn't realistically be able to play)
I almost put Williams Arcade Classic on the list for Robotron, but then I remembered I'm not great at that game and would probably enjoy a puzzler more.

The obvious choice is a Dreamcast. Games of choice are Mars Matrix, Jet Grind Radio, Phantasy Star Online Version 2, Capcom Vs. SNK 2, and Time Stalkers. A little bit of everything. A crazy scrolling shooter, a stylish game in its own genre, an action RPG with customization options, a fighting game that unites two great companies, and a mystery dungeon game. Hell, I could even live without PSO and just have the other four.

Dreamcast for sure.
Games, not sure, but probably one of each genre.
A shooter, rpg, racing, fighter, arcade, (no sports).
Pretty sure Shenmue and Hydro Thunder would be in there.
Yes, 5 is tough.

Making lists like this makes me cringe, because there are so many very close runner-ups. But I'm also glad this isn't a choice I actually have to make IRL.

I gotta go with the Saturn and the following games:
Street Fighter Zero 3
Guardian Heroes
Gungriffon

04-27-2011, 08:20 PM

Abes : Oddworld 1 and 2
Suikoden
Kings Field
Xexyz
04-27-2011, 08:23 PM
I'd pick my first system, the NES. As for the games, I could probably stay content replaying these 5 over and over for the rest of my life:
Super Mario Bros. 3
Mega Man 3
Xexyz
Shadow of the Ninja
Super C
mikey167
04-27-2011, 10:42 PM

Batman And Robin
Joking... But I would Have to Pick
Super Nintendo
Donkey Kong Country
Super MArio Rpg
Breath Of Fire
Super Mario World
Donkey Kong Country Comp Cart.

Tough, but here's mine.
SNES:
Mega Man X
Super Street Fighter II
Chrono Trigger
Donkey Kong Country 2
Final Fantasy III (VI)
Here's why:
- Mega Man X is a game I find myself playing every couple of months or even weeks. I honestly never get bored of beating this game. From beating it for the first time in early middle school, then making it a tradition to beat the game in the morning before high school finals, to just playing it time and time again now, it's definitely one of my favorite games of all time.
- Super Street Fighter II is a classic fighting game, and anyone who knows me knows that I love my fighting games, and I love my Street Fighter.
- Chrono Trigger is just a classic RPG loved by many, and with so many endings, I wouldn't get bored of it ^_^
- Donkey Kong Country 2 is one of my favorite side scrolling platformers of all time. Another game with a lot to do in it.
- Final Fantasy VI was the first RPG I ever played. My brother would set the battle mode to 2 player as I watched him run around and do the story (aka the dirty work XD I was in Kindergarten at the time, so I just wasn't good enough to do a single player mode myself yet) as I got to be part of the battles with him. Combined with it's cool storyline and the nostalgia factor, there's no reason not for me to keep the game around.

If the Xbox was a classic system I would pick it:
Xbox
Halo 2
Burnout 3
Star Wars: Knights of The Old Republic
Star Wars: Jedi Academy
Ninja Gaiden
But since most people wouldn't classify it as a classic system just yet I'd have to go with the PS1 or Nes:
PS1
Syphon Filter 3
Castlevania: SoTN
Bust-A-Groove
Crash Team Racing
Touken Retsuden 3
Nes
Contra
TMNT
Ninja Gaiden 2
Mike Tyson's Punch Out
Blades of Steel
Phantar
04-28-2011, 01:37 AM
Genesis / Mega Drive
Games:
- Sonic 2
- Contra: Hard Corps
- Gunstar Heroes
- Phantasy Star IV
- Speedball II (odd choice I know, but I simply love Speedball!)

Neo-Geo:
Metal Slug 3

Sonic 2
Tron 2.0
04-28-2011, 02:33 AM
Neo-Geo
MetalSlug
Samurai Shodown 2
Pulstar
Windjammers
Magical Drop 3
Runner up would be.
PC-engine
Ys 1&2
Ninja Spirit
Bomberman 93
Lords of Thunder
Bonks Adventure
maxlords
04-28-2011, 03:07 AM
Damn...this IS tough. Depends on your definition of classic I guess. Honestly, my 1st choice would probably be PC, but for console, I'd be torn between Genesis and SNES.
Genesis:
Phantasy Star II
Warsong
Advanced Busterhawk Gleylancer
Shadowrun
Dune - Battle for Arakis
SNES:
Final Fantasy III
Rock N' Roll Racing
Super Metroid
Mega Man X (one of em...prolly X or X3)
Legend of Zelda: Link to the Past
Mr Smith
04-28-2011, 03:07 AM
Playstation 2:
Resident Evil 4
GTA: San Andreas
Tomb Raider: Anniversary
Shadow of the Collossus
Devil May Cry
Bugger, I've just read a "classic console" is pre-PS2. In that case:
Mega Drive
Sonic 1
Sonic 2
Kid Chameleon
Ecco the Dolphin
Super Monaco GP
Rickstilwell1
04-28-2011, 03:14 AM
gasp skies of arcadia isnt there?!?!?!
but dreamcast isnt very "classic"
I would say in a couple years that whole generation will be old enough to call classic. Even the Playstation 2 is like a cockroach that just won't die and the majority of its good games are 6 or more years old now. I think when the new Nintendo console comes out it's safe to say it's over for those 4 consoles plus the GBA, N-Gage and Gizmondo in the modern gaming forum.
What if there is a built in game into the console, like the SMS (maze game) or my Atari VCS with 128 games, can I take an extra five, or do you have to include the built in games into that equation?

It was a very tough decision (I easily had about five consoles I could have named) but I choose PSX.
Games:
1. Breath of Fire 3
2. Mega Man Legends 2
3. Final Fantasy IX
4. Beyond the Beyond
5. Crash Team Racing
My runner-up would have to be the Saturn, but believe me when I say it's a VERY CLOSE runner-up:
Games:
1. Fighters Megamix
2. Grandia
3. Guardian Heroes
4. Last Bronx
5. Shining Force 3

Dreamcast for sure
games wise a bit hard as i love MANY games on this system, if i had to pick at the moment it would be:
Capcom vs. SNK 2
Border Down
Daytona USA 2001
Record of Lodoss War
Project Justice
Zebbe
04-29-2011, 07:44 AM
Mega Drive:
Phantasy Star IV

Gunstar Heroes
Sonic 2

Enigmus
04-29-2011, 10:43 AM
SNES.
-SMAS+SMW
-Williams' Arcade's Greatest Hits
-Chrono Trigger
-Tetris & Dr. Mario
-Super Street Fighter 2
-dustburn-
04-29-2011, 11:43 AM
So HARD to pick! It makes me cry tears of pain.
The SNES
-The Legend of Zelda: Link to the Past
-Super Mario All Stars
-Final Fantasy III
-Tetris Attack
-Sim City
I bumped Super Metroid and Uniracers out at the last minute.
My runner up would be the Genesis.
-Herzog Zwei
-Shadowrun
-Sonic 3
-Gaiares
-Gunstar Heroes
I took off Klax and Strider.
But I would value variety, replay value, and fun in that order above all else.
This is based off of games I own.

I almost went for a 7800 w/ a mix or 2600 & 7800 carts, but in the end I decided to go 5200 based on the strength of a few really amazing, endlessly-replayable titles:
1) Adventure 2 - ultimate homebrew, amazing game
2) Missile Command - great arcade port, works great with the controller
3) Berzerk - great arcade port, super challenging
4) Pac Man - my favorite home version of the iconic maze game
5) Star Raiders - looks great, plays great, I'd never get sick of it.
Ah yes Atari 5200 Supersystem excellent choice.
Actually, the analogue sticks are not as bad as the press/people made out to be, you just gotta figure out how to use them properly, and gaming becomes a bliss.

5. Gun.Smoke
Can't believe I forgot that game on my Nes list. I might have bumped Blades of Steel off the list for that. I use to obsessively play Gun.Smoke where I could almost get thru the entire game in one life(it usually only took two) and had visions of contacting the GBOWR: Gamers edition record holders to watch my flawless play thru. Of course it would only be a record if I managed to play thru it faster than everyone else.

Personally I had the most fun with Sega Genesis as a kid, even today. If I were pressed to keep it to five games, I think I could live with:
Comix Zone
Earthworm Jim
Mortal Kombat II
Zombies Ate My Neighbors
NBA Jam
Spent a many hours playing each and never got tired of them.

easily the nes:
Zanac
Ultima:exodus
dragon warrior 3
super pitfall
super pitfall 2(atlantis no nazo)
zanac because of its ai system and one day I will beat it in one life without shooting anything.
ultima exodus because of its open ended gameplay (so much to do for an early game)
dragon warior 3, I can never get tired of maxing out charecters in all classes and hunting for rare items!
super pitfall long game and lots to find plus it has 3 quests that get harder and harder as you play.
super pitfall 2, so many secrets so much to do..its hard to get tired of this great game.
(i'd love to have the gbc version of dw3 instead, but the nes version is still amazing)

Loads of entertainment there! ;) Also, I'd make sure to keep two controllers. :P
