How do you feel about owning / collecting the "Greatest Hits" PS2 games. You know, the ones with the ugly red stuff on the cases.

What about the same for PS3?

I avoid them. I've been lucky to get a few games in the brief window when they're Greatest Hits but only have a sticker.

Virtua Fighter 4 is a bit of a conundrum, though.

Virtua Fighter 4 is a bit of a conundrum, though.Yeah, if you want the penultimate home version of VF4, Evolution and its red badging is the only way to go. I bought this for my friend several years ago and didn't have much issue. If more Greatest Hits releases were like this (as in significant upgrades/additions to original game) I'm certain owning a different colour badging wouldn't be a problem. I own several GH selling games but no GH print-runs of said games. I have a couple GH prints for PlayStation though (Tekken 2 and Loaded) and I don't mind. Being GH meant I was able to get a game like Tekken 2 brand new (so scratch free) and cheap many years after it came out - I'd say there's no better way to go.

I think they are ugly, so I will not get them unless there are significant additions to the gameplay. Xbox games are the same way, for instance I have both versions of Fable - the Original and the PH Lost chapters.

I only have one and i bought it on purpose since it only comes in the greatest hits packaging, silent hill 2: directors cut.

I still don't own ANY greatest hits games. Not one....for any console.

I welcome them with open arms. I have had DC AS games, obviously all the PSX GH ones, and just bought the Batman GOTY GH Edition since it was new for $13. The color means nothing, it's the product inside.

I've long suspected GH editions have actually smaller print runs. Unless you're Nintendo or Blizzard, chances are you sell most copies very close to release.

I mainly buy greatest hits when it is an improvement over the regular version, a good example is Midnight Club: Los Angeles Complete Edition, not having to pay for and download multiple DLC. Or if it's a $2 sports game or something equally worthless.

I don't mind them as long as they have extra features not found in the original release.

I've gone moderate lengths to avoid them, but I've lightened up over the past few years. In reality they end up blending in on the shelf. I don't even notice my PS one games with the big day-glo green stripe or Dreamcast orange spines anymore.

Like others have said, I dislike them, but if they have enough extra content on them then it's fine with me.

Doesn't matter much to me, though given a choice I'd take the black label -- unless that cost me an extra $20-30.

I've traded-in all my PS2 Greatest Hits for black-labeled spines. The only ones I'm missing now are Grand Turismo 3 and Onimusha. I did buy the Mortal Kombat three discs set, but I found it awesome enough to keep, since they were still black labels. Those red labels sure look ominous.

I wonder how I'll feel about it once I hit the PS1 hard. So far, I have Symphony of the Night Greatest Hits. That green is about as ominous as the red on the PS2. ;)

Platinum hits on the Xbox also do that to me, but somehow, the yellow labels on GC don't. I still try to get everything original, though.

As for the DC, I'm planning to own all of them, so I want everything. ;)

I think they look nice, so I don't mind them (Unlike the Player's Choice lineup on the GCN). I must have 20 PS2 Greatest Hits releases and they look nice together.

I just wish I hadn't bought GT3 and Kingdom Hearts brand new when they hit the Greatest Hit's line. Ended up buying GT4 and Kingdom Hearts 2 new just before they hit the Greatest Hit's line, so now things don't match.

I either have the mix up normal and Greatest Hits releases on my shelves, or not keep those sequels next to the earlier versions in the series (Which is what I've done).

Don't have but one PS2 GH game (We <3 Katamari, because I love me my Katamari). Working towards getting all the GH PSOne games as part of my never ending PSOne collection.

If I wasn't doing a full run i'd not be getting them, but otherwise I avoid them.

Same here. The GH games do look uglier but I dont care about that very much. I want to play the game, not look at the case 24/7. I mean if I have a choice between a gh and non greatest hits edition I will of course pick the original printing, but often times online you don't know what you will get until it shows up.

Oh man! That box takes the ugly cake.
My Shadow of the Colossus was a red-striper because it was on clearance for $13 when I got it from Target in '07, otherwise I'm one of those compulsive "avoide conflicting packaging if possible" types, having successfully nabbed non-GH versions of Kingdom Hearts, RE:CVX and Okami several years after their releases.

Yeah and sometimes you get glitchers, like Gran Turismo 2. The better version is the Greatest Hits release so there isn't much debate there. For a collection you'd probably want both original and GH anyway but as a player, it's GH or bust.

the goty edition (greatest hits) of elder scrolls IV: morrowind has a bug that the normal edition doesn't have. When you turn into a vampire you can't return back to your human form, so when that happens you can only quest at night. So the greatest hits edition isn't always a better one lol

I spent 30 hours or so of game time as one and was able to go outside in daytime. You feed on people sleeping, which makes it safe for several days at a time to go outside in the sunlight without taking damage.

So as long as every couple hours or so when you're in a village or city area at night that you take advantage of the opportunity to have a quick meal, you're not likely to ever get stuck outside quickly taking damage until you die. I only encountered it a handful of times.

Last time i played it was like 1.5 years ago and you could find problems curing the vampire state on lots of forums. It only happened when you had the goty edition the bug wasn't in the normal edition + shivering isles. Maybe they finally put an update out?

If you buy Devil May Cry: 5th Anniversary Collection, you get DMC3 SE in the black case for that set, just a FYI if you want to track it down.

I did this since I previously sold DMC2. Worked out since I got the black label version of DMC3SE and another copy of DMC2. The only differences from the original versions is that they're the not for resale versions. So I just gave my DMC3SE GH and DMC original to my brother and kept the 5th Anniversary Collection the way it came.

From what he's saying (Although he also called it Morrowind so perhaps I shouldn't be taking him too literally ;)), it's the PS3 release. He referenced Sony's Greatest Hit's line and didn't say Platinum Hits, which would be Microsoft's version of the program.

I wonder though if he just wasn't doing something correctly to cure himself (After all, he was unaware he could even still go outside as a vampire, and the cure quest is rather long and complicated). Is there a chance you made a mistake, or is this really a known problem with the GOTY Greatest Hit's release of Oblivion on the PS3?

I'm having trouble seeing why the Greatest Hits release of Oblivion would be any different than a fully patched original with the appropriate expansion packs like Shivering Isles installed that came on the Greatest Hit's disc. It seems like it should be identical, unlike something like a PSOne or PS2 Greatest Hit's release.

Did i say morrowind? oops LOL

I thought it was only the ps3 goty edition but it seems every edition has this problem but the greatest hits version has the highest chance. There's even a faq dedicated to it and you can find alot of results on google if you type oblivion vampire cure glitch.

I've gone moderate lengths to avoid them, but I've lightened up over the past few years.

This is how I now feel about them. I'd still much rather have the original versions and have been doing this since the PS1 days. But if the GH version is only $10 new then I will gladly pick it up. Hell, half of my PS3 games are already GH versions(GOW Collection, Infamous and Killzone 2) but thats because they were all only $10 new during black friday deals. And I'll definitely pick up a GH version if it has extra content, like the already mentioned VF4.

Hey guys, there's an easy solution. If you really hate the red label, but it's the cheapest one you can find, get it and print off the regular cover from somewhere. I use cdcovers.cc to find them, but I'm sure there's other sites.

Hate them. Hate hate hate. I like them to be nice and uniform. It's easy for me to pass them up anyways, seeing as they had to sell X number of copies just to get to GH, so I know they're be plenty more out there that aren't GH. The only 2 I own (Like many) are DMC3 and VF4.

I did however break down and order 2 Platinum Hits for 360, as they were imports and the regular versions sell for $90. At $35 each, I was willing to cave...

Get it? Cave? (Bought 2 Cave Shooters). <_<

stick them at the tail end of the shelf, they look just fine that way
