I recently got a macbook pro. I love minecraft and want to know can I run it on a mac?
I haven't run the latest version of minecraft, but in the past it was download and play with zero configuration.
I just went to the website, looked at the Mac OS download section and it says this:
"Download Minecraft.zip, extract the Minecraft app, then run it."
Did you read the website at all?

It's a Java program, so it should work as long as you have the runtime environment installed.

Why would you ask for help if you haven't even tried? How lazy can you be? You took the time to post a question when you could have already gone to minecraft.net and tried to run the game.

Is that even lazy? It would have been faster to go to Minecraft.net.

Not to derail, but I'm wondering what all the fuss is about with minecraft.
Is it just a fancy level editor or is there an actual game involved?

It's... something allright. You need to play it. The demo should still work online. If you get it, you get it. If you don't, don't worry about it.
