Hey everyone.
Newbie here.
While I'm not all that new to collecting in general, I'm just getting into collecting/buying new & factory-sealed ps1 games.
In the past week, I have bought sealed copies of:
Medievil (2)
King's Field
Tomba!
Darkstalkers: The Night Warriors
Gauntlet: Legends
JoJo's Bizarre Adventure
Pandemonium
Torneko: The Last Hope
Persona: Revelations and
Vandal Hearts
Now, every one of these games has that white security label on the top...except for Tomba!
Does this mean that it has *absolutely* been repacked - or is it possible to be factory-sealed & not have that security sticker?
I mean - it looks immaculate. I tried looking at some sealed Tomba! games on-line, but there were very few & I couldn't see the white security sticker...but it didn't *appear* to have one.
Actually, if it's possible, can someone w/ a sealed copy post a pic. for me to compare mine to?
It seems very unlikely to me that it would be resealed, because I bought them all from the same b&m store, and he's been here 10+ years.
Lastly, I was looking at an older "How to tell if it's been resealed" thread here that links to 5 or 6 related threads/topics.
I was able to link to about 1/2 of them...the other 1/2 said I don't have permission to access that page.
Is this an error, because, I'm new, because the topics might be included in 'private' club threads, or what?
Thanks for taking the time to read this & helping the new guy out!:help:

Tomba should have the sticker on top, so your copy is resealed. I'm pretty sure that every new PS1 game should have the sticker, with the exception of the reprint versions of Rhapsody and Persona 2. If you check eBay, every new copy has the sticker.

Yeah I gotta agree here. I would never buy a that game listed as "Factory Sealed" if the security sticker wasn't present. I guess there's a 1 in a million shot that it was a factory defect or something, but no collector would settle for this copy in their collection. It'd just be a placeholder that you'd upgrade down the line.

Unless it was a reprint via GameQuestDirect, Tomba should have it's seal. Is the plastic wrap on the game triangle folded on the top / bottom, or is there a seem going around 3 of the edges?
GQD reprinted a few games a while back that did not have the security seals, but were truly sealed.

I'm looking at it right now as I'm typing - and it's strange.
I mean that it doesn't have the seams on 3 sides.
It looks (to me - no expert) like it's truly sealed as in the vent holes aren't sealed over, & it still has the original price-stickers on it (no hang tab, though)...
Any way to find out for sure if that GQD reprinted it or not?
I called the guy that I bought it from (who insists it's never left his possession and/or been resealed) and he volunteered to let me keep it for the $35 I paid for it (so, I'm thinking that even if it was used, I could probably recoup that amount), bring it back for a cash refund, or bring it back and make an even exchange for any of his other games that do have the security sticker on them (no more Tomba's, though).
He has hundreds of sealed/security stickered games left. My biggest worry is that (since I'm not that knowledgeable) - I'll end up w/ something brand new that's worth less than what I started out with (even if it is used).
What would you guys suggest I do here?
Anyone else here from south jersey - maybe you'll be familiar w/ the store and/or owner?
Thanks again for the help :)

Any way for you to take a picture? If not does the plastic look like it's sealed like this?

Tomba was never printed by GQD. I used to visit their stores weekly up until they closed a year or so ago and that was never one of the reprinted PSOne titles. Sorry, you bought a reseal.

Weren't some games near the end of the PS1 era sold brand new without security stickers? I don't mean GQD releases... I think we had a thread about it a while back.

So then get Knowledgeable! The internet is at your fingertips, DO RESEARCH. Find out what is rare or not. Go to his shop, list what you want, then go home and look online at their values, its simple really.

Actually, Sony maintained seals throughout the life of the PSOne, stopping security sealing in roughly Fall 2005. The first PS2 release I ever recall buying without the sealing sticker was Shadow of the Colossus in October 2005. Even the late release 2004 PSOne stuff like Three Stooges has the seal sticker. Tomba was released in 1998. The only non-stickered PSOne games I am aware of are those sold in the multi-packs/collector's editions and the two GQD reprints.

I really should get me one of those shirts... won't be egotastic in the slightest.
It's been kicked about by a bunch of people, the Tomba! isn't an original seal.
Bojay, Shadow came white sticker sealed. My copy has it, and the GH version had the stripe, so it had the stripe. The removal of the seals happened a bit later. 06 I think (I should dig around for the thread on here talking about it), but I know the first PS2 game I bought w/o the seal was metal Slug 4/5.
**Edit to add**
I'm seeing a sealed black copy on ebay w/o a stripe, but seeing a sealed GH w/ stripe http://cgi.ebay.com/Shadow-Colossus-PlayStation-2-2005-/370485925079?pt=Video_Games_Games&hash=item5642ae94d7 now i'm confuddled.

Not correct. I purchased the game on launch day and after being told it wasn't sticker sealed by the indy game shop I bought it from, I literally went to TRU, Best Buy, Target and Walmart to compare because I couldn't believe it didn't have a sticker. None of the launch copies were Sony sticker sealed. I believe you're confusing the Sony sticker with a security sticker. There are a number of games for the PS2 that shipped with security stickers, long after Sony stopped doing the white strip. In fact, I have some recent Xbox 360 games that also have similar stickers. Generally, there is one sticker up top and one on the bottom.

Thanks, everyone for the help, tips, & replies.
Just to give you all the 'end of the story' - all of you who said that the Tomba! I had was a reseal...were correct.
I wound up going back to the store w/ it while the guy I bought it from was off. His partner was working, and when I showed him the game, he immediately recognized it, identified it as their "display model", admitted to it being a reseal, and refunded me my money.
So, lesson learned on what an 'obvious' resealing job looks like.
I have another question (concerning sealing) directed mainly at ps1 collectors/experts.
During the last week, I picked up 3 more new/factory-sealed games. They are:
Dragon Warrior VII,
Vandal Hearts, and
Persona (2): Eternal Punishment.
Now they are all sealed identically (w/ the obvious, crisp, and clear) triangle-folds on the top & bottom of the cases - and no seals on any of the sides.
The Dragon Warrior & Vandal Hearts both have the white security label across the top, while the Persona game doesn't.
Is this another reseal, or is it possible that the Persona game is legit?
Thanks again for all of the help.
***Edit to Add***
I'm not being lazy, by the way :)
I did look at some pics. of new ones for sale on e-bay...and they seem to look just like mine (w/o the white security label)...does this mean that it's one of those games reprinted by that company - or what?
Thanks...Again!

Your Persona 2 sounds like a legit sealed reprint copy.

^ Thanks.
It would have really sucked to have gotten 2 reseals (both sold as "sealed") within 1 week of each other!
...now, I'll just have to see how the sealed Tactics: Ogre looks when it arrives here...
So...Persona 2 & Rhapsody are the only 2 games that this exception applies to (the 'being reprinted w/o the white security labels' thing)...is this correct?
Also-does that mean that P2 & Rhapsody can both be found both with & w/o the security label?
Thanks-

Bojay1997 pointed out before that the games in the Collector's Edition multi-packs don't have the stickers either. They are packaged together in a cardboard sleeve though, so you wouldn't be able to check if new copies have the stickers on the jewel cases anyway.
Yes, there are copies of Rhapsody and Persona 2 both with and without the stickers.
