A little bit of both? It's decent. Gameplay leaves something to be desired, but the graphical style the game has is very good and in my opinion is what makes the game. If it was the same gameplay and the graphical style sucked, probably wouldn't be nearly as enjoyable.

Yay. For all the complaining that people make about it, it was a groundbreaking, tounge-in-cheek game that is different than just about everything that came before or since. It was saddled with a bad advertising campaign and it is rare now, although even though it is one of my favorite games, I wouldn't pay what it goes for on it now. But, I don't think that any video game is worth that much money.

Now, I'm going to go back to playing Donkey Kong Country on my Mother 3 Game Boy Advance :)

Oh yeah, and since I started reading through here again, can we get another 10 threads about Earthbound? I'd like to talk next about how the guide is overrated, and not worth the price it commands.

There was a time (http://www.digitpress.com/forum/showthread.php?t=50690) when I ranked Chrono Trigger over Earthbound, but after playing through Chrono Trigger again on the DS rather recently, I find its appeal has diminished. Yes, it's a work of art, and all of its various elements come together brilliantly – but Earthbound accomplished something special.

I liked it when I rented it and beat it. Still do, actually. It was fun, and I'm glad I got a copy of it for $30 before it got all stupid expensive.

I don't hate it, but I think it's one of the most over-rated SNES games. There are so many SNES RPGs that utterly destroy it. FF 4-6, Lufia 2, Terranigma, Secret of Evermore, Seiken Densetsu 1-3, etc.

It's not that good, and not even close to being worth $200 CIB w/ guide.

The game is okay. There are some innovative ideas in it and I like the setting, but I wasn't a fan of the battle system or overall game structure so I stopped playing somewhere around the desert area. It gets pretty dull when you're just travelling to the next location and that's how most of the game seems to play like. Might pick it up again to see the ending though which I hear is really different in tone from the rest of the game.

I absolutely loved Mother 3 though.

I personally don't like it at all. With all the rave and praise about this game I forced myself to play it, but realized that it's not my type of game at all.

It's a game. It didn't kick your dog. Only way one should logically hate a game is if they were forced to play it.

I think this is more just about hating something people talk a lot about, or hating something people have messed with (price, availability, etc).

I wish that they would release it on VC, and then on a handheld to make having the original snes cart worth a lot less.

How many of you actually played it when it was new? I know it really wasn't that popular when it came out. I remember my local Walmart had tons and tons laying around marked down to $20. That's probably the only reason my mom bought for me instead of making me buy it myself.
