In a nutshell, Tulip Computers (the owner of the Commodore brand) and Ironstone Partners Ltd are putting together an official web portal for all things Commodore. They will sell "official" software emulators,C64 software along with hardware designed to run the Commodore 64 emulation. They want all things Commodore under thier banner so they can support the estimated 6 million C64 enthusiasts. For a fee.

Don't worry, it's all out of proportion. The only branded products they will be going after are things in the current field that don't actually have clearance to be sold ie. hardware illegally using the Commodore name. Anything such as emulators, games (though god knows how they get the rights to them I don't know), music (likewise, as Chris Abbott holds most of that), and the such like are fine. Not sure about the use of the internal chip ROMs (for the emulators) but we'll find out on that one.

Chris spoke to the head of Ironstone and got the lowdown. They will be putting out their own press statement very shortly. Let's just say whoever did the one for Tulip didn't have full permission (from Ironstone) and got a lot of the numbers and statements wrong.

I was wondering how this would end up. The article made sense but at the same time didn't, which I'm chalking up to translation issues.

Mayhem, when Chris gets the info, could you let the rest of us know? While I'm not big into Commodore, it's still interesting to see such classic products rise back up into the public view again.

Well, I'm all for this. I'm still a big Commodore user -- my C128D was my first computer and was used very heavily by me back in the day. I fire up a emulator and play a C64/128 game almost every week.

If they can do for the scene what the Blue Sky Rangers have done for the Intellivision, then great. There's a lot of Commodore users out there still and I know we'd all love to see more official support.

I'd like to see a great 'official' emulator from them that can handle the Commodore perfectly, along with downloadable Commodore games from back in the day, either for free or a small fee.

Can you imagine how much money Nintendo and Sega could make if they did this for their old console games? X_x

Uh, oh! Guess who the ISDA's coming after next!
"But it's a TWENTY YEAR OLD game!"
"We don't care, son. First, we're gonna have Orrin Hatch use this flamethrower on your PC..."
(Ba-WHOOSH!)
"That was a two thousand dollar machine! Why?! Why?!?"
"It gets worse. We're throwing you in jail with a serial rapist... that ought to teach you a lesson."

(LATER...)

"I've got somethin' to upload into YOU, bo-ay!"
"That's an eight inch floppy! Can't you see this is only a five and a quarter inch slot?! No! NOOOOOO!!!"

Yes it was, but disturbingly funny.

"Oh don't worry son, in a little time you'll be able to handle more bandwidth"

Yeah, and install some new ports.

Hey baby, can I put my hard disk in your box and boot you up?

Baby, you turn my software to hardware.
