Found these at our local Half Price Books. I know Neo Geo AES are worth a bit, but do not have any experience with the system/games myself. This is the first time I have even seen an AES game in person. Just looking for some information and values on these. Thanks in advance for any help.

I would look like your avatar if I were in your shoes...

What prices did you pay? Also, AES NeoGeo.com Price Guide (http://www.neo-geo.com/guides/aesguide.html)

Just remember, price guides are baseline, not gospel. ;)

Thanks for the link, I have heard of neo-geo.com but was unaware that they had a price guide. The Metal Slugs were $75 a piece and everything else was $30 each. Yeah I was definitely excited when I saw those sitting on the shelf. Everything is in great condition. We also found a handful of other goodies, (SCD) Popful Mail $5, (SCD) Shining Force CD $5, (SCD) Sonic CD $5, (SCD) Robo Aleste $10, (SCD) Vay $5 and a few others. Again thanks for the info!

You will do extremely well on the Slugs for sure. The only two where you paid roughly current market value are Magician Lord and Blue's Journey. What shocks me is that someone had Slug 5 meaning they were late stage AES collectors and yet traded them in for next to nothing. Well, their loss is your gain.

Ten to one some parents found those and dumped em out from under a kid when moving or cleaning house. Those are STEALS at those prices.....

I find good stuff at those stores... Nothing compared to the score Cmo got here, but I've been getting good deals there consistently for about 5 years or so.

Yeah, my girlfriend and I have been hitting the HPB here for a couple years now and consistently get good stuff. We actually spent a weekend a couple months back and went to 11 HPBs in two days in three different states. That was fun, but a damn long drive. Thanks for the info guys. We do not collect for the AES at all so all of these will be for sale here soon. Just need some dinner first. :D

Damn you, Half Price Books! This is the second time I've heard of someone finding a Neo•Geo goldmine in one of those stores. And when I check them, all I ever find are a couple N64 sports games here and there. Sigh.

HPB is very hit-or-miss. Seems every time I find a good one it goes bad after awhile (prices get jacked up or they just stop having new inventory, or both). Best find I ever got was a $10 Earthbound "guide." I don't think that's ever going to happen again at the one I found it at tho. They've started pricing stuff crazy (now there's an Ultima guide for $30 sitting there forever, for instance).

A similar thing happened at my local Half-Price Books. I used to get things massively cheap (usually $1.98 for all non-current games) and then a few years ago they started using 'Amazon' pricing and now I never find any reasonably priced games (SMB/Duck Hunt for $7.98?......no thank-you.).

HPB's pricing is always very random it seems. After being to several now in different states, it seems none follow a firm "structure" for pricing as far as video game items go anyway. One location had an Earthbound guide, but they wanted $100 for it, as well as a complete PC FFVII for $100 and complete PC FFVIII for $60. It seems that if the person pricing the stuff has heard of the title or it is a bigger known game or game series it will be priced more. We are big into collecting guides and a few locations priced them at near Amazon prices for popular titles and then odd balls they just do their normal price. Which our local one is about $2 cheaper for their "normal" price than any other location we visited. All hardbound guides seem to be $10-$15 on average. I am glad when HPB gets in sealed items they leave them sealed. In the past couple months we have gotten a few sealed SNES, Sega CD, DC and other games. We normally hit HPB twice a week and very rarely do we walk out with nothing, whether it be something to resell or add to the collection.

Deals can still be had at HPB, not just Cmo got lucky this week. Just a few days ago Fuyukaze bought an NES system with 9 games for $5 all because it was missing a mere AC adapter and they couldn't test it. Same store same day (same trip actually), I bought a CIB launch Dreamcast (Aug 1999 manufacture date) that was hardly ever used, almost new. Same deal, $5 and no power cord. Also had Marvel vs Capcom in the system and since they couldn't find the disk (a happy surprise for me) they gave me the case for MvC. Was it 1/100th as cool as his find? Sure, but it was also 1/100th the price. Still would trade places with him any day in this case, in a heartbeat. LOL

Good to hear others are finding deals at their local HPBs as well. As far as systems go at our HPB, they always seem overpriced.

On a different note, I have heard that HPB throws away a ton of stuff. I am not sure if this is true or not or what they even throw away. I have not made the trip to dumpster dive. Anytime I am on that side of town later I just don't think about it. Has anyone else heard that about HPB?

BTW...you should definitely put those up for sale at neo-geo.com.....will be a WAY better market for em.

I'm guessing that they looked them up but didn't know the difference between AES and MVS because those looked like MVS prices.

Geez, that has to be the best score I've seen this year. @_@

Ile vouche for the decline in half priced books deals. I cannot even find morrowind 3 game of the yea\r edition priced as the regular version anymore. They even started printing out their own cases for gameboy games they don't have boxes for. I was at one yesterday and my heart dropped when I saw a copy of brigand for ps1 for sale. I pulled it out and....$60.00....man, they use to be such a good store for this

Now that I see this neo geo score though I think ile have to keep looking anyway.

You're sure to make HUNDREDS is not at least $1000.+ off all those. Neo geo games are the holy grail of game collector pieces. So jealous right now.

Wow, those prices are unbelievable. I had no idea AES games were worth so much.

I remembered from years ago that AES was expensive, but never realized that they were this pricey. Honestly I never thought I'd see any AES stuff while hunting.

Holy shit....that's quite the haul. You hit the jackpot big time, especially on those Metal Slugs.

Actually, the price guide is pretty outdated. Many games regularly go for 20%-30% more and that's not even on Ebay, but in regular marketplace transactions on Neo-geo.com. The trick is actually finding copies of anything but the commons in excellent to mint complete condition anywhere but Ebay and Neo-Geo.com. That very rarely happens as people who collect Neo Geo tend to know what stuff is worth and hold onto it for a while. There is still a healthy resale market for it in the US and worldwide among collectors. The Slugs in particular are always in demand. Just between MS5 and MSX, you're looking at easily over $1K for the pair if not more. The five Japanese games are worth hundreds each, so this is easily a score worth at least a couple grand if not more.

I haven't found anything at my HPB in a while. It seems they are now using Amazon resellers and/or ebay to price their stuff. :(
