View Full Version : We're all going to die.

Pretty obvious right? We all know this by now. Sooner or later, each of us will be a rotting corpse somewhere. So what the hell does this have to do with video games?!? Good question. Well...I know a lot of you guys have valuable collections. Not only valuable, but also rare and unique items that you keep safely protected in your closet or whatever other places you've got them stored.

My question is: What will happen to your collection when you die? You got a Will somewhere to specify what happens to it?? Some big master plan?? Will little Johnny from the neighborhood get lucky and take all your toys after you die?

I've only got a nes/snes with 32 games total. So when my time comes, I could give a rat's behind what happens to them. Let it be a free for all or something...may the best man win and take what he can. But what about you guys??

thank you.

P.S. If you die and happen to own Earthbound, can I have it?

thanks again.

I'm going to buried with my games. Yup. Even Earthbound- sorry MTTP.

Donate it to a friend to keep the dream alive, or piece it out online. It's definitely not going to waste.

I'm going to have my collection burned in a pit of fire, afterwards I will be buried in that very pit.

I plan on opening up my own video game store, and actually using my collecting as stock. Some may think this is stupid or impractical, but I don't play most of my games, they're better off being sold to someone who will enjoy them.

good job genius. You actually missed the entire point of this thread. How do you expect to open up a store when you're dead??

And could everyone else please stop giving me bullsh*t answers. I'm being serious. Let's say tomorrow some drunken bastard mows you down and you die. This happens tomorrow, not 1 year from today, not ten years from now....but tomorrow. What will happen to your collection then???? I'm assuming most of you will have your stuff ransacked and looted?? Or do you have a Will/legal document ready. And don't give me that "my children will inherit it" because we all know 90% of the people on these forums don't have a gf and will never get married.

thank you.

I'm going to leave a list of instructions explaining which games are worth enough to bother finding buyers for and which to just sell in lots or garage sales. Then my wife/family/siblings are going to ignore everything I say and sell stuff like Panzer Dragoon Saga for the same dollar they will sell my NES carts for.

Hmm, maybe I'll think about donating my stuff to an archive.

Mine will be cryogenically frozen with me. Just think how much it will be worth when I am revived in the year 2200. However, getting an adapter cable to work with the holographic TVs may be an issue. Hmmmm.

I'm going to ask to be buried with all my games in an undisclosed location and then I'll have someone publish clues to where I was buried.

It'll be a kickass treasure hunt.

MyTurnToPlay will inherit my collection. Come home soon, son, we all miss you. :'(

My collection will be distributed so that whoever gets an item from it, and plays it, will immediately get an unknown phone call, which will begin a seven day period of pure gaming hell.

Then at the seventh day, the phone will ring again, and my spirit will come out of the TV to forever haunt the person who obtained one or more of my games.

Bullshit! Trying to stereotype all game collectors as basement dwelling mamma's boys/girls. I believe well over half of us are married or have children. Most of us aren't virgins contrary to popular belief. I, myself was married at one time, now divorced, and getting in shape to pursue hotter tail.

Good job genius. You completely missed the point of his post. He was saying all of his collection would go into his store, so he probably won't have any games in his collection to give away by the time he's dead.

Okay, I'm going to have a will made tomorrow. I am not sure what I will say but I KNOW I want it to say at least:

I would like my copy of Earthbound and guide to be lit on fire, and the burnt remains sent to MyTurnToPlay.

I will be buried in a tomb in the Mayan jungles, with a trap outside my tomb. Move the CIB EarthBound off the weighted pedestal and you'll be crushed by a boulder made of ET carts from the New Mexico landfill, Herr MyTurnToPlay.

It does seem fitting that Earthbound... in fact be Earth-bound.

My collection will be seized no less than weeks, if not months, after my death since I live alone and it would be at least that long before someone questioned my whereabouts. And, since I will likely die at home (on the crapper or some other pathetic way), the putrid scent of decaying flesh will imbue every item of my collection - rendering it valueless.

Is that real enough for you...

Anyway, my son and/or wife will inherit them. And yes, I actually already have a son and wife. It's hardly the "scaling Mt. Everest" of achievements you seem to think it is.

In my case, because I don't have much money and a big dept, all my computers, consoles and videogames will probably be taken away by the bank and that's it... I may be still alive when I'll see that. Too bad for Coleco fans waiting for my future ColecoVision games to be released.

In before the lock (trust me, it is coming, I see it).

I am going out E.T. for 2600 style. Take my body and all of my games and just dump them in a landfill somewhere to later be discovered and then they have to crush everything.

Either that or I don't want to be buried, but stuffed and mounted inside of my arcade machine and then donate my arcade machine to somewhere nice, like a kindergarten or preschool. I will rig up the monitor so that it shifts down pimp my ride style so you think you are going to be playing some Die Hard Arcade but NOPE, you get to stare at dead stuffed and mounted SegaAges right in the eyes instead. Take that preschoolers

I'm guessing my wife would sell my collection, so someones going to be getting some good deals because she has no idea what it's all worth.

If i go when I plan to go, or if I get cancer, I plan to sell everything before I die, because obviously there is no reason to keep it, doubt my kids will want all this old shit.

I'll be sure to mail you remnants of my copy of Earthbound, just post your address somewhere in this thread please.

As for my collection, haven't planned it out, maybe to one of my brothers. I do have a friend who collects, but he treats some of his stuff like shit.

If you die instantly how would you have time to pass your stuff on? It will end up in the trash or given to a goodwill in my case. Nobody has a will with specific game collection details. Nobody.

Whatever happens to my shit when I die happens. I will be dead so I am not gonna really care either way. My collection is for me to enjoy. If my stuff ends up in the landfill then so be it - at least I enjoyed it while I was alive.

Sounds like a challenge to me. May have phone my lawyer friends and see what can be done. ;)

If I were to die tomorrow then it probably would all be sold on Ebay, sadly.

If I knew I was to die in say X months (of cancer for example). I would probably sell most of it, give certain games to certain people and then demand to be buried with my Shining Force collection! :D

Or yeeeears into the future, they could donate it to some national institution for preservation... perhaps they could even dedicate a wing to me. *dreams*

My wife will probably end up keeping it, knowing how much I love it.

If she goes too? My collection, along with all of my other wordly possessions will go to the person who will be taking care of my kids. If they need to sell it to offset the cost of raising them, then so be it. Although, I wouldn't mind if they hung on to it so the kids could appreciate it.

Except for my copy of Earthbound, that is. I'm going to have that inlaid on my tombstone.

if i have kids, ill pass it down to them and hopefully they respect the art of video game collection as much as i do.

if i dont have kids, i would put it in a box ass chest and bury it somewhere and write up a treasure map instructing to dig it up 25 or 50 years later on the day i died.

I thought this, too, except for the fact that the other Earthbound goofthreads seem to be surviving...but now that someone else foresees a lock, I might as well be safe and get myself in before it, too.
