I own a Logitech wired headset and it works. The only controllers that Sony has disabled were anything unlicensed, such as those Chinese bootlegs. Anything licensed should still work.
I'm still pissed Sony disabled the use of those nyko frontman guitars.

My wireless SFIV pad that utilizes a reciever plugged into one of the PS3's USB ports still works. Just wasted an hour playing The Raiden Project on it after testing it for you.
I don't see why your wired controller, as long as it wasn't an unauthorized one that has been locked out by Sony, would be any different.

Speaking of those pads ... have you used a pair of them to play SSFIV for any extended period of time?
I have two of those pads and as much as I absolteuly love them I find that they drop signal like crazy when they're used for more than about 20 minutes.

I'm not a fighting game fan (I bought one 360 and one PS3 version for use in 2D games in general), but I haven't had any trouble with mine in PSOne games, a few PSN games, or Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection.

I've been meaning to chime in on the free game promotion for a while now...
Has anyone seen the financial reports that Sony released? They claim losses from the PlayStation War at $172M, while losses from the earthquake and tsunami are claimed to be something near $3.2B. The first figure includes user support and user compensation for 77M members. The second figure includes damaged goods, lost sales, and the like.
My concern is for the developers. If 77M accounts claim an average of 2 games per account, how can the developers be compensated fairly when Sony's figures allocate a TOTAL cost of less than $2.50 per user? Other costs are included in the $172M figure, so developer royalties are something like $1 per game. They're probably also not going to see many sales for these games after the promotion. Granted, these developers have other titles on the market and in development, but I would have expected these titles to remain "evergreen" products on PSN for a while.
My best guess is that they track claimed games by hardware IDs. There's been something like 25M PS3s sold, so I don't think Sony is going to give out 77M codes for LBP and inFamous. Also, as crappy as it sounds, I would expect them to ration keys on a first-come-first-served basis. Families with kids might want to claim their games early, lest they have to settle for Dead Nation or inFamous over something family-friendly. I hope it doesn't go by IP or household, because I was hoping to get LBP on the family PS3 as well as mine so we could play multiplayer.
Has anyone else heard that Sony's E3 keynote is to be 5 hours long? This is going to be a fun E3... What the heck are they going to do for FIVE HOURS, when they usually wrap it up in two? My guess is that Kevin Butler comes out in war paint and sets fire to a mannequin on-stage that resembles a certain security enthusiast, as booth babes in PS Move Controller costumes dance around the fire. Or they could just play it off like nothing happened, and get it out of the public mind. Yeah, that latter option is a little more likely.
Actually, if they really want to recoup losses, they'll spend a while making announcements for titles that aren't even in production yet. Things like Final Fantasy XV, PS3-Exclusive Call of Duty, PS3-Exclusive GTA, Minecraft HD, and VP of the Universe Starring Kevin Butler.

Where rationing/usage across multiple consoles is concerned I believe that the free games are available for download for 30 days. 2 per each PSN account. Once they're in your download list they're yours to keep and you'll be able to download them to any active console that is "active" under your PSN ID.
However, logistically I don't think you'll be able to be logged in on two PS3s under your user ID and online in LBP at the same time. The DLC version of Warhawk doesn't allow that, so I assume this is the same. Where you can play it on two systems separately, you probably won't be able to go online with both at the same time.
The game is 4 player multiplayer local though.
As far as how Sony is "compensating" devs via the welcome back program, while I don't have any real details, I'm sure that there isn't an expectation that Sony will be compensating full retail price for each game downloaded. I could be wrong but I imagine that all of the devs participating in this are doing so voluntarily and that they've offered these titles to Sony to distribute as a part of the Welcome Back package.

You need to set up a EU PSN account and the store should be the EU version when you log in to that account. I believe you need to use an EU address (and possibly a credit card # tied to an EU address) to create the account.

First off let me say I am not complaining in any way, shape or form.
That being said, I was wondering if anyone had the same thoughts as me. I feel like the sugar coating of the "welcome back" package is genius on Sony's end. They are offering two retail games, Littlebigplanet and Infamous. Both of these are quite popular and if I recall correctly LBP is still selling for around $30. The other two games are Super Stardust and Dead Nation. Stardust being a well known PSN game and Dead Nation a newer lesser heard of game. Both were less that $10 if memory serves once again.
Doesn't it seem tricky that the two pricier games are games that a majority of people already own? I feel like this was a very strategic pick of games so that the greater number of people are going to be downloading Stardust and Dead Nation. Even then Stardust has been out for so long that most people that would have considered getting it, already own it.
In other words, even though Sony seems to be throwing free games at the PSN users unthinkingly, in reality it is a very well thought out, if not slightly deceptive, plan to reduce loss of profit.
Once again I'm not complaining, I've been wanting Dead Nation and never bought Infamous and I'm actually pleasantly surprised that they offered free things to begin with.
Just my two cents. :)
EDIT:I was apparently really confused and mixed Super Stardust HD up with Wipeout for some reason. My general idea still stands.

What do you expect? Do you expect for Sony to just throw Killzone 3 or LittleBigPlanet 2 out there for everyone who had an inconvenience? You don't pay for the PSN so Sony really doesn't owe you, me, or anyone anything. You should be grateful that you're getting what they are actually offering.
The free year of identity protection is really the only thing you could say we're actually deserving of.
Besides. Sony is giving us games that are known to be either good, or atleast, overhyped. I'm not a fan of LittleBigPlanet in any way because of the poor platforming physics, but it's usually overrated as one of the best games on the system. Same with Infamous as it's a pretty repetitive and somewhat lackluster open world game, just with good graphics and story. It also helps releasing Infamous with the upcoming release of Infamous 2, because what else helps better with sales than promoting the second one with the first one as a free game?
DLC titles are usually mediocre, as you really get what you paid for, but Dead Nation and Wipeout are worth it. I don't own the Wipeout HD, but this will be my free game seeing that I enjoy the series. Also Dead Nation is $15 and just recently came out. The Wipeout HD Bundle is $25 even though it's a fairly old game.

As I already said, I genuinely didn't expect anything, and I'm happy to see that Sony is doing anything. I never said I expected $60 retail games and I don't need the "you should be thankful" speil because I already expressed my gratefulness.
What I'm saying is it seems like a clever mechanic to smooth over PR yet still prevent major sales loss. Im not an economics major and I don't know the whole story but thats my point of view.

Yeah, it's a decent deal, and while there are plenty of us out there that have purchased all of the games offered, I'm sure there are just as many that have none of them.
I think that all of the games offered save for Dead Nation (clearly the most recent game on the list) have probably long passed profits which exceeded their development costs, so Sony has no problem (or as little problem as they can all things considered the context of the offer) taking a hit on them.
In the case of InFamous it should even serve to generate interest in the forthcoming sequel.

If you redeem your Free Game #1, hit an error and then the ability to select the game goes away, here is how to get it back.
Go to the XMB and under the PlayStation Network column, go to Account Management>Transaction Management>Services List>and select SCEA Promotions you'll see the free game list and you can continue from there.

Start the download so it goes in your download list then cancel it.
Once you have the little red shopping bag on the store icon for the game it will forever be in your download list to re-download.

So, yeah, thanks to the entire PSN userbase downloading it simultaneously InFAMOUS only took about 4 hours to download (one error mid-download forced a restart of the entire process) and I had to clear just about everything off my 60GB HDD that I couldn't live without (I blame gigs and gigs of Rock Band downloads) to fit it on there.
No time to play it tonight. I'll give it a whirl tomorrow. If I love it I'll leave it, if not, off it will go and it will be on my download list for a time when I have a much larger HDD to stick it on.

Downloaded Wipeout Bundle and Super Stardust HD, plus demos of Wizardry and Infamous 2 just under an hour. Also activated PSN Plus and downloaded just the free themes. I'm currently using the Yakuza 4 theme which I like just because I'm a fan of the game. The fireplace dynamic theme would be nice if you could make the XMB disappear while you weren't messing around with it.
The only problem I've had with the PSN being slow is the whenever you go to download anything, the download option flashes a good 10 - 20 seconds before it brings up to download anything. Download speed is decent.

If it's a full FREE game, you can keep it on your HDD but you won't be able to play it until you sign back up for Plus.
If it's a FREE theme, wallpaper, avatar, video, or discounted game/thing or add-on that you paid some amount of money for you'll be able to keep it and play it.

Thats nothing new or special. PSN and XBL have always done this. I can be downloading a game/theme/whatever from XBL and the second I start up something else, an online game of CoD:MW2 for example, or NetFlix, it stops until I stop the other access of XBL

yup. this.
when i first heard infamous was going to be released as one of the 5 games, i could only think 1 thing...GENIUS.
now people who were on the fence about picking up infamous 2 because they were curious about the hype behind it yet never picked up 1 get a chance to see if its their type of game
and as far as being disappointed about the psn releases, believe me, no one is more so than me, but that's only because with the exception of super stardust i already had all of these games, really even sayin disappointment is misleading because they really didnt have to give us anything other than bringing the psn back up, so anything you could get on top is just icing on the cake at this point
people who picked up wipeout imo honestly lucked out the most, because i fucking had to come out of pocket almost 40 dollars to get both the main game and the expansion and now people get the same thing free of charge, i guess thats really the only anymosity i feel, however on the other hand, now theres a legion of new wipeout players i can go up against, lol was really getting tired of having my ass handed to me by crazy european and japanese kids

Not sure about that, but where themes are concerned,
similar to PSP, they actually added functionality for users to craft totally custom themes with alternate icons and sound effects in one of the earliest firmware upgrades for the PS3 ... there are websites out there where you can download all manner of custom theme and load them on to your PS3 without any hacking or modification.
Or, if you're so inclined and have the means you can make your own.
Just google "custom ps3 themes" and you'll find all sorts of info and websites.

And also download the games in the background mode so they sit on the XMB prior to sending an "activation" packet to Sony's servers when trying to go into full "install" mode ... if you're downloading them in the foreground or whatever you call it, you can hit the error mid download/install process and have to restart the whole thing whereas if you have the compressed packet sitting in your download manager all you need to do is try to install it again.

For the time being, will wait until the servers are not full. At least this should guarantee that I will get my free games, hassle-free.

When I tried on Friday, it told me I had to reset my password. That page was down for maintenance again.

I'm such an item whore, I'd tempted to download Home just so I can get access to the free items, then delete Home.

I finally managed to update my PSN password via qriocity.com. I'm currently downloading Little Big Planet for my PSP and will also get ModNation. I have two questions.
1. Eric and I each have our own PSP and PSN account. We're going for the same two games in the Welcome Back package, since the other titles don't interest us. Is it possible to download a game once and somewhat link it legally to the other account/PSP without having to download it a second time? Considering that these are games that are over 1 GB in size, not having to download them twice would be nice. If there is a way that this can be done (say, by transferring my downloaded copy of LGP to Eric's memory card and then linking the file to PSN)?
2. Re. the PSP content manager for PC. Can it be used to access PSN directly? And again, can a downloaded file be linked legally to more than one account?

I don't think that you can link one download to multiple accounts. If you copy the file to a different PSP linked/activated to a different account it's going to tell you that it is registered to a different account when you try to boot it up.
You'll need to re-download.
They typically download faster on the PC with the MediaGo software than over WiFi directly to the PSP, so if you're not doing it that way that may be a good way to get it re-downloaded more quickly.
You should be able to start the download on the PSP, cancel it, and once it's in the download history access and re-download it from MediaGo.

I don't think you have to complete a download to purchase a piece of content. Just start the transaction and just cancel the download rather than waiting for it to be finished. I would think it would be considered purchased by that account and be redownloadable at a later date.

Right. You don't have to complete the download.
As soon as a download begins it's in your history and can be re-downloaded at any time.

Thanks for the info. As for MediaGo, is it like within PSN on the PSP, that is, one download required per account as well?

I was able to download all of my free games overnight last night. Figured a Sat night would be low traffic and maximize my chances. Turns out that was a good strategy. Got wipeout HD, Infamous, LBP psp, and Killzone. Now to find the time to play them all!

MediaGo is a free file manager/PSN Storefront for PC. Like on the PSP/PS3 you can log in/out of any PSN account on it. So, you should be able to set it up and do all the downloading on one PC.

I couldn't activate my PSP games without Media Go. I had to download them on the PS3 first, to get them in your downloads list, because nothing comes up on the Welcome Back page in Media Go for me.
Probably has something to do with PSP CFW.

Has anyone else has this problem? I was able to get my two free games for my PSP. However, the free 30 day trial for Playstation Plus isn't listed under the "Welcome Back" tab. It doesn't show up if I use the alternate method either.

You can only redeem that via the Playstation Store on the PS3, you can't do it from a PSP, and that's actually consistent because you can't sign up for PSN Plus through anything but a PS3.

Thanks for the clarification. I don't own a PS3, so the free trial is useless to me. Oh well, I wasn't really that interested in the Playstation Plus anyway.

Just a question
I downloaded LBP & I'm doing Wipeout HD now..but
why does it say Demo on Wipeout HD?? Is it after that I could get the Full Game Free..I download the Wipeout HD Bundle..
I just was to make sure, I don't want to waste couple hours downloading just the Demo..

You're downloading the demo, the unlock code for the full game which is just a small file, and Wipeout HD Fury. Usually when you download the demo off PSN you're downloading the full game but without the unlock code it won't allow you to fully explore past a certain point.
