WELCOME BACK WELCOME BACK WEEEELLLCOOOOME BAAAAAACK
My first visit when PSN was back up was not an online game, but my HOME homestead.
Amazing to see within seemingly minutes of the Northeast being back up HOME was pretty much fully populated in the main central areas that I visited.

Supposedly full retail games such as Infamous and Little Big Planet are being offered up as part of the Welcome Back program. Pretty strong if you ask me. Still nothing will give back all that down time... I don't think I'll ever use the machine at the level I was again.
My credit card info was for an expired and cancelled card, lucky me!

Here's the list from here: http://blog.us.playstation.com/2011/05/16/details-for-playstation-network-and-qriocity-customer-appreciation-program-in-north-america/
PS3 AND PSP owners get some love.
All PlayStation Network customers can select two PS3 games from the following list. The games will be available for 30 days shortly after PlayStation Store is restored and can be kept forever.
•Dead Nation
•inFAMOUS
•LittleBigPlanet
•Super Stardust HD
•Wipeout HD + Fury
For PSP owners, you will be eligible to download two PSP games from the following list. The games will be available for 30 days shortly after PlayStation Store is restored and can be kept forever.
•LittleBigPlanet (PSP)
•ModNation Racers
•Pursuit Force
•Killzone Liberation
I didn't pick up Infamous 1st time out or on the Greatest Hits, but have always been curious so I'll GLADLY take that one, especially with the positive buzz that the sequel is getting in the gaming press test sessions that were happening before and during the outage.

I wonder if that means owners of both can pick two from each? That would be sweet, and would indeed keep me off the 360 for a week or two.

I'm pretty sure you get two for each thing that you own.
And while I know that many won't care, HOME regulars like myself get 100 free virtual items including some personal spaces. I don't have specific details on that but I'm eager to see what they're giving there.

The free games are nice. Not trying to troll or anything, but I was seriously debating whether to keep or sell my PS3 over the events of the last month. The free games give me a reason to keep it. I never tried inFamous, so that will be one. Not sure if I will go for LBP or Wipeout HD.

Similarly, I wonder if people who have used the same console are each eligible for 2 games? My boyfriend and I use the same PS3, but we use separate accounts and we've both made purchases with our own cards.

Since separate accounts on one PS3 are able to purchase/download/play games on the same console, I see no reason why each separate account on each PS3 won't be able to pick two games from the list of PS3 games offered.
"all playstation network customers" is the way the text reads and each separate account is a customer.
Now, PSP on the other hand does not allow for secondary accounts, so it'll likely be the one single account that's activated on the PSP.

Sony is being extremely generous with this. I'm definitely going to get Wipeout. One question. It says Wipeout HD + Fury. Does that mean we get both together or does each count as a single game?
Also. With this. Do we get two PS3 games and two PSP games, or just two altogether?

While it's not 100% clear via the wording on the PSN blog, the statement that Nick Caplan of Sony Europe made to Kotaku's reporters is clearer.
If you have a PS3 and a PSP it's a total of four free games.
"Sony Computer Entertainment Europe's head of communications Nick Caplan writes today that PSN users will get up to four free games for the PS3 and PSP from a select list. PlayStation Network account holders will be able to claim them from the PlayStation Store when that goes live—"just a little while longer," Caplan writes—provided they have access to the Store in their country."

I'd agree with Oobgarm and say Dead Nation, then Infamous afterwards. I haven't played Super Stardust HD but I'll be getting it over LBP. My friend is getting LBP, so I'll get it anyways through gamesharing, but I didn't like the game much at all. I'm a fan of platformers and this one was extremely overrated.

I have a PSP (no PS3), and out of the four games, I'll pick up LittleBigPlanet and Modnation Racers, since Killzone Liberation and Pursuit Force don't interest me. I wish that Sony had offered the first LocoRoco as one of the choices, since it still sells for a high price compared to LocoRoco 2.

I'm in the same boat. The only game on that list that I'd be interested in is Infamous but I got that for $10 during a black friday sale last year. I could care less about the other ones. I wish they would have offered downloads of Resistence 1 and 2. I would have even took MAG over the rest of those. And based on the game titles they chose I don't have very high hopes for the movies they are going to pick for us to rent out free over the weekend.

For the sake of clarification for those who don't click through to read the article, anybody who changed their account password already will still be able to log in to the PSN on their PS3 or PSP to play games online, etc.
They've shut down all of the web-based services that would give people access to change PSN password/user information.
From the article:
Sony also reiterated that only the login site is down and not the entire PSN in a tweet, “Clarification: this maintenance doesn’t affect PSN on consoles, only the website you click through to from the password change email.”
That said, “[users] will still be able to sign into PSN via your PlayStation 3 and PSP devices to connect to game services and view Trophy/Friends information,” according to Sony.
Actually it's only the website that has been taken down, you can still get on the PSN via the PS3 and PSP just fine.

Hmm, this makes me wonder.
What if I create a new account? Sure, the account was not available before the hack (as it will be created, say today for instance). Will the second account get the same games and benefits? Like be able to download two free games for each console?
Or will it be a "wait and see"? Am I even able to create a new account?

EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. that there is a new PS3 firmware, units that YLOD or have some other type of coincidental hardware failure get the firmware blamed on the hardware failure by the owners (and in this case Rockstar Games support?).
The likelihood of the firmware actually being the cause in any case of hardware failure such as overheating ... very very low, and AFAIK it's never been proven in any single case.
Early gen PS3s are all likely reaching similar thermal failure levels, and any correlation to a firmware update is purely coincidental.

This. Every time a PS3 YLOD's while a person was playing a game that was just release/they just got, even if it were something simple as Pac-Man, it's instantly blamed on that game. My 80gig YLOD'd on Rise of the Argonauts, but I don't go around blaming Codemasters, since it could just have just as easily been God of War 3 which (luckily enough) I never opened and was able to return to get my money back.
People just want to point the blame on Sony more than ever after the PSN debacle and while it is partially their fault for not even acknowledging the YLOD's existence, in most cases their firmware updates are hardly to blame. Sometimes I wonder how many of these occurrences are really caused by custom firmware and the updates are just used as a scapegoat by owners not wanting to admit they screwed up.

Stuck.
The Blu-Ray drive's ability to eject what's in there doesn't become active until the XMB boots ... and well, it doesn't ever get that far when your system is in YLOD mode, you just get a lot of beeping when you press the eject button.

I have an older arcade model with a 20 GB HD and it seems to still be able to load games, which is good as I really didn't want the hassell of going through MS support services. From the Joystiq article:
The automatic update is being "gradually" deployed to consoles across the globe through Xbox Live over the next few weeks. "Just like any other update to our service," Major Nelson notes, "you will know you've received it when you turn on your Xbox 360 console, connect to Xbox Live and receive a notification to download the update.

Haven't you seen/read Fight Club? It's the automobile recall formula! (which very well may be an urban legend...)
If at the time that they determine a critical flaw in an automobile already in the marketplace, if it costs LESS to pay out the maximum dollar amount in settlements for the most statistically likely number of catastrophic auto failures/driver deaths than it does to do a full auto recall ... they don't do the recall.
[THEORY] If Microsoft knows that it'll cost less to replace x amount of early gen 360s than it does to ... do whatever the financial benefit of this firmware update (PayPal, blocking pirated discs, etc.) is then they won't pull the firmware. [/END THEORY]

Mainly because I like playing PS1 Diablo with the analog stick and only the logitech controller seems to have the ability to assign the d-pad inputs to the left stick.
