View Full Version : Finally gonna get a 360

I'm an old school gamer (not to mention old in general), but I'm finally gonna pick up an Xbox 360 (to play Raiden IV, RE5, Mortal Kombat vs DCU, Qubed, etc.). My son already has one, but it's in his room on a small TV. I want to put one on the big/flat/high def screen.

Should I get the $199 version or the $299 version? Is memory for saving games the only difference between the two systems (other than the shinier color of the $299 version)? I'll probably want to keep 10-20 games saved at any given time.

Thanks for whatever advice you may have.

$300 250GB version is best.

Game patches, download content, downloadable games..even certain games require the additional HDD space.

You could always purchase the HDD separately, but you will be wasting more in the end.

If you mean the $199 version as in the new 4GB version, I would go for the $299 250GB one. For me, 4GB wouldn't be enough room for my saves, DLC and XBLA games.

But to answer your memory question better, The HDD is used for Game Saves, DLC, XBLA, Movies/Shows and music you can rip from your CD collection. And yes, the consoles are the same except for the HDD size.

I would buy from amazon and get the 3 year warrenty for $40.00 in case it bites the dust on ya.

I've always viewed the less expensive models as a suitable and cheaper replacement if/when the more expensive one dies.

I got a 4gb refurb off of Wal-Mart.com for a decent price. The HDD space didn't really bother me since I really didn't have plans to go on Live, get any kind of DLC and only wanted to play a few games for it.

If you do get a Refurb 360 make sure it isn't a launch model. That can be identified by the Amperage which is marked on the back of the console.

This applies to the original 360 and NOT the Slim
16A=Launch Model(Avoid)
14A=Falcon Chipset(Be somewhat cautious)
12A=Jasper Chipset(The latest chipset aside from the 360 Slim)

I bought the 4GB, I'm already running out of memory. I picked up a un-official 250GB for $50 on Ebay. I would just go ahead with the $300.

Get the bigger HDD. Even if you don't buy DLC, you'll want to transfer your most-played games on the hard drive -- makes it less loud and less stressful on the optical reader (you can still delete that transfer later without losing your savefile).

Has the new 360 had any problems at all or is it pretty much fixed of all problems the original had.

You should probably wait for E3 next month, as it seems likely there will be a price drop.

Like others have already said, get the $300 250 gb slim. It has all the memory you'll ever need. And if that $300 is a bit pricey for you, craigs list always has good deals on new slims or ones that have only been used for a few weeks/months. You just have to look around a bit for the best deal.
