Right, had a quick look on various pre-order sections on various sites, and came up with a list of games that are all semi must-buys for me:

Binary Domain
Disgaea 4 (exclusive)
Catherine
Tales of Graces F (exclusive)
Rune Factory: Tides of Destiny (exclusive in my eyes!)
Shadows of the Damned
Asura's Wrath
Dark Souls
Bleach: Soul Resurrection (exclusive)
Atelier Totori (exclusive)
Anarchy Reigns
Child of Eden
Dynasty Warriors: Gundam 3 (exclusive)
EDF: Insect Armageddon
Ico & Shadow of the Colossus Collection (exclusive)
inFAMOUS 2 (exclusive)
No More Heroes: Heroes' Paradise (exclusive)
The Last Guardian (exclusive)
Uncharted 3 (exclusive)
White Knight Chronicles II (exclusive)
El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron
Dragon's Dogma

These are all games with release dates from now untill Q1/2 of 2012.

I realise that alot of these games are multi-platform, but these are games that I'd prefer to have on the PS3. In any case, out of that list, 11 (12 if you don't count the Wii as a proper challenger) of the 21 games are PS3 exclusive, which is a major plus in my book. Now, I'm not a fanboy or anything, I just prefer to use my PS3 for games like these, while using my 360 for shmups and Western games, with the exception of Record of Agarest Zero.

And yeah, I know WKR sucked, but II includes an updated version of the original WKR game aswell, so what the heck. I also acknowledge that alot of people aren't into anime RPG's and the like.

The PS3 is already really good in my opinion. Those games spice it up more, no doubt! :D

My 360 is basically an expensive paper weight that sits atop my center channel. It just seems to me that every game that comes out multi-platform is better on the ps3. Castlevania for instance is one disc on ps3, two on xbox. Yes you could say that I'm just comparing storage but lets be honest, which is the better version? One that requires you to switch disks in order to play certain levels, or the one that allows you to freely sift between all of them at your own discretion. Also Call of Duty Black ops has more detailed textures on PS3, most notably in zombies mode.

PS3 has a bunch of good games coming out, many of which are already mentioned. I too just prefer PS3, I only buy Xbox when I must, which tends to be a rare occurance.

It really depends on the game and frankly, disc swapping does not involve changing discs every few minutes or even every few hours. The few 360 games that require a swap do so at a very well planned point in the game that doesn't interrupt the action. Having said that, the PS3 version in some cases is starting to best the 360 version when it is used as the lead platform. For example, having compared LA Noire on both consoles in person, I believe the PS3 version has the edge. For Castlvania on the other hand, the Xbox 360 version is smoother and has better overall color and frame rate.

The PS3 undoubtedly has a very strong third party release calendar, but I am worried about what happens next year given that literally every major Sony first party IP has or will have released a new iteration this year. I would also note that of the OP's list, Child of Eden for the 360 has Kinect features which have reviewed very highly presumably making it the must buy version and there are a lot of multi-platform games where the 360 and PS3 version will be identical or where the 360 may have a slight edge. Overall, E3 should be very interesting.

You obviously have never played Star Ocean on 360. :P Once you get off of disc 1, you never need to go back and once you hit disc 3, you're stuck on it for a short while, but once the game opens back up near the end, you have to switch back to disc 2 for any area that was introduced on disc 1 or 2. Not so bad if you go straight to the final area, beat the game, and never touch it again, but if you have any interest in the post-game dungeons or the other optional stuff, you'll probably have to switch back and forth countless times.

I still happily played the game that way, though, as I don't think swapping discs is the end of the world. Definitely a pain regardless, and I did plan my playing around minimizing my disc swapping.

Most people on DP own and enjoy both consoles.

This is already turning into another tired flamebait thread and needs to be nipped in the bud. Mods?

Well, it was never my intention to appear as a PS3 fanboy, as I own a Wii, PS3 and 360. I always preferred the 360, but it seems that most developers have the PS3 as lead console as it's much easier to port a PS3 game to 360 than vice versa.

Anyway, like I said, I didn't intend to make this a flamebait thread, I was just surprised about the games, specially the exclusives, all being released over such a short period of time. In fact, I may well purchase the 360 version of some of the non-exclusives.

Complaining about disc swapping? Kids these days clearly don't know anything of the multitude of 4 disc Playstation games. Let alone the fact that having multiple discs used to be a sign that you were really getting your money's worth.

Now really it seems that multiple discs is a sign of having a motion picture embedded in your games (I'm looking at you FFXIII). Clearly being able to use BD-ROM media would be a boon to abusers such as Hideo Kajima and Square-Enix.

If you really want a pain in the ass, go try watching the first three Star Wars movies on Laserdisc. You've gotta swap discs nine times, flip discs nine times roughly spaced about 25-30 minutes apart. That means you get out of your seat 18 times to watch three movies! Unless you buy a Laserdisc player that "flips" the disc for you. Clearly you can see why nobody used Laserdiscs after DVDs caught on.

You need to read the posts in this topic a little more carefully. We're not kids that can't even remember the PS1. The kind of disc swapping I was complaining about is just as bad as the Star Wars Laserdisc swapping you mentioned, if not worse. Somebody can correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe any PS1 game requires you to swap back and forth. Once you move on to disc 2/3/4/5, you never had to go back to the previous during the game. There are 360 games, however, that store certain parts on certain discs, so you can very easily be in a situation where you want to go to one area really quick, have to switch a disk for that, and then switch back to go back to your previous area, all within the span of a few minutes.

Just be glad you haven't played FMV adventure games from the 90s, because if you did then you'd know what true pain was. Of course, chances are that you have, and if so you'd understand what I'm getting at.

The list of exclusives on either the PS3 or 360 now days are very slim. What you can play on one console you can play on the other, though you will be missing out on a very few if you only own a single console.

Basically you'll want to pick what system has the games that you want the most. For me it's the PS3. If anything Yakuza comes out, I know it'll hit the PS3 and more than likely not the 360. Japanese developers also seem to be focusing on the PS3 or PSP when it comes to niche titles because didn't receive the sales they've wanted on the 360. Unfortunately a lot of these games are exclusive to Japan, but thankfully they are being more lenient and sending these over to the US or PAL regions where those of us who speak English can enjoy them.

I'm not a shmup fan at all, but if you're a shmup fan and only were interested in purchasing a single system, then you may as well go for the 360. 99.9% of all next gen shmups are on the 360. Aside from that, there hasn't been too many exclusive titles lately, other than the obvious first party and second party studios.

Last. It's taken a few years, but developers are finally, like has been mentioned, starting to lead on the PS3 instead of how most developers used to lead for 360 and then port it over to the PS3. While usually the lead platform looks the best, the 360 games don't suffer as much since it's easier to port over than the other way around.

Before I got my PS3 earlier this year theres always been exclusive games that I've wanted to play on it. And luckily I can now do that. To the OP, the PS3 has had good games(both exclusive and third party) for atleast the last 2+ years. The first year was rough for them because they were still finding their groove but now that developers know how to handle the system better the games are a-coming and they is good(yes I meant to say it like that).

And Kupo also hit the nail on the head. While the Wii gets short changed, the PS3 and 360 get the majority of the same games, with the exception of exclusives. And as far as exclusives go, the PS3 seemingly gets atleast 2 for every 1 360 exclusive. They have more first party studios and of course theres their second party partners as well. So if the PS3 is the only system you have this gen then you don't have to worry about any shortage of games.

I agree with you on this. The Wii does get short changed with both 3rd party and exclusive titles because it appeals to kids and casual adult gamers for the most part. As far as which console between the ps3 and 360 has a better selection of games, Kupo was right with the multi platform selection being pretty much the same on both systems. When it comes to exclusives, 3 years ago I would say the 360 was in front, but Sony has really delivered a consistent list of AAA exclusives over the last 2-3 years, so I would give the ps3 the edge in the category now.

I don't own any multi disc games on 360, so I don't know - when you install the game to your hard drive, do you still need to swap discs during gameplay?

No, but that assumes you have a HD and one big enough for the game. I bought an Arcade 360 myself, so for a long time all I had was the 256 MB card. A friend gave me an old HD, but the 3 discs of Star Ocean 4 are even bigger than that.

I'm very impressed with the number of exclusives to be released in 2011 for the PS3 vs the 360 ....

But also impressive is the strong sales of Kinect and the 360 Slim, in México the Xbox is all the rage and the games are cheaper on the 360 .... but still got a PS3 because I only play 3 o 4 games a year; but the temptation to get the Microsoft console is always there.

If the exclusives sell good, probably the PS3 gets more attention and make the studios work first on the PS3 than the 360 in the production of multiplatform games :)

Just bought a clearance PS3 at Target. It was the 120 gig. I'm not particularly amazed at the moment, though. I've been playing Yakuza 3, which I've had for several months now and it doesn't add much to the series. I also bought a copy of Motorstorm used from Gamestop for $5 so I'm hoping that will hold my interest for a while. But it doesn't hold a candle to the 360 in terms of the type of games I like so I'll wait a while longer before I buy any more PS3 games.

Not every pro-console thread is flame bait. I've owned a PS3 for about 3 years, and I've never played a single PS3 game on it yet. Threads like this inform me of what I have to look forward to, and I appreciate the information.

I don't actually follow gaming news/press, and I know that I'm not alone. I appreciate reading threads like this because I learn a lot that I otherwise wouldn't, like what games are exclusive, and which version of multi-platform games have advantages over others system's versions.

I'm also guilty of thinking that the PS3 library has been lack luster -- perhaps for lack of being informed quite honestly (since I prefer the 360 controller, I only care about exclusives, or versions that are decidedly better on the PS3). That lineup the OP posted looks very promising, and has me more excited about the prospect of finally feeding my PS3 something besides PS2 and PSX games and porn.
