I have a Wii system I would like to sell but comes from a smoking household. The system is in a seperate room and there is no smoking allowed in that room, doesn't seem to help. Plus the system is in perfect working order. Anyone have any suggestions what I can do to clean or lessen the smell. I've searched and didn't really come up with anything useful. I would appreciate any helpful suggestions. Thanks.

an air cleaner/purifier/ionizer should help.

Go to a pet store and get the stuff that gets rid of "Cat Piss'. It works great for removing all types of smells. A product called "Natures Miracle" has bacteria and enzymes that react chemically and do a good job of gettin' rid of some nasty smells.

Run a box fan over it for a day. Better yet. Since smell can get on the inside, you could take the Wii apart a little bit, then run it by the fan. I've never actually done that, but it seems like it would help.

yeah I would take it apart and clean the inside, depending how smoked out it is there might be some nice yellow/brown goo inside.

Whenever I get something that smells like an ashtray, I leave it sit out in the sun for the rest of the day (a few hours anyway). The warmth of the sun and the fresh air really does a good job. And rubbing the outside down with rubbing alcohol will take off a lot of the smell as well.

I've always been confused by this kind of thing. I live in a smoking household and not one of my consoles even remotely "smells like cigarettes". I mean, I don't understand how it's even possible unless you're blowing smoke directly on your consoles every time you smoke for a month straight or something.

I don't know either as I have a game room that no smoking is allowed and the door's shut. But whenever I sell something it always seems to go to someone especially CA that all they do is pee and moan about it reeking of the smell. I air out all my stuff and clean as best I can before shipping. I go as far as taking it to my sister-in-law next door who's an ex smoker and ask her if she smells anything and she never does. I just don't get it.

The biggest cause of the odor is in fact the dust/residue that is inside/outside the console. That's how the "smoke" attaches itself to it. You need to give the outside a good cleaning with a mild cleaning solution (obviously don't get it wet inside), I second the "Natures Miracle" suggestion. Then you want to use compressed air to get all the dust outside of the console (including all the little crevices). Make sure not to go overboard with it, short bursts, if you haven't used compressed air before, you won't know that it will start spraying liquid if used for too long/at improper angle.
