nintendo problems, solid color on boot, cleaning 72 pin, lockout pin questions.

ok i got 3 games today, draculas curse, willow and chip and dales. i decided to paly thme and i get the color of death on my NES, i clean the game and they all kind of work, then they start the flash from hell reshowing teh start up before flashing again. then they start being unable to flash while having a purple screen.

I take the system apart and try cleaning the 72 pin to the best of my ability. it works for a minute then flashes of hell begin again.

I want to take my 72 out to clean well but do not wanna dam,age it,. are there step by step instructions to clean it? and also with all the things stated above should i consider replacing the connector.

also tried it with 3 other games from my collection known to work so the games are not the problem

you should break the pin on the lockout chip by looking at a tutorial online. Then your system will never flash again.

Buy a new 72 pin on eBay. I've bought plenty from different sellers and they all worked. Its fairly easy to replace them.

Also, I heard a rumor awhile back that if you boil it and put it in the oven, they will mold back to shape. I've also heard people say that it worked. I haven't tried it personally.

In theory, you could brick your system if you cut the wrong pin. But it's a really easy mod to do, especially if you have a good tool for cutting that pin.

It's quite simple to do actually and there are many many tutorial's out there for it. I did this a few years ago and it only took a few minutes, it's as simple as looking at a picture and cutting the marked pin.

ok i tried the boil and bake with no success. im gonna go back and reclean all the connectors on borth the new game and test gmae again. if this does not work i guess i need a new pin connector huh?

Ok is there a video on taking out the lockout ot prevent the flashing or do i need a new 72 pin?

It won't "flash", but it will still sit at the solid color screen.

I once did a repair on an NES where I swapped out the 72 pin connector and accidentally busted a connector pad on the mobo. That was due to corrosion. I ended up have to expose the trace and used conducting paint to draw a new pad on. Worked fine after that. If there is a bad connector pin, you'll get that solid color. Replace it. It's actually very simple to do.
