I know it was mentioned in the other thread, but this news is big enough that it warrants its own thread, as to not clutter up the other one.

This is simply great news. I'm ashamed to say that I never played MGS3, despite now owning 3 copies of the damn game is each of its releases. I held off on Peace Walker since I hadn't played 3 yet, considering the stories are close to each other. I really enjoyed 4, even if I missed out on some of the story that 3 provided.

I haven't played a Silent Hill game since the first one, and actually went out and grabbed 2 and 3 with the intent on playing them this year. Perhaps I'll wait now.

And I absolutely love the ZOE games. The Second Runner is one of the best PS2 games I've played, and the series as a whole is tremendously overlooked.

I'm surprised they threw this out before the show, as this is a pretty big announcement.

I was surprised these are coming out for the 360. I'm hoping they end up being disc releases seeing as Microsoft has an annoying fetish for no-disc games (i.e. upcoming Halo HD re-release).

... Where the hell are Silent Hill and Metal Gear Solid?

Please don't let this be a case of "we can't use the same voices again due to stupid rights issues".

Meh...While I think it's nice that the industry is starting to recognize that some of their great games have some of the same lasting appeal as classic films, I really feel disappointed that companies like Konami with great IP are putting resources into remakes of games only one generation old when they could be producing great new games. I personally have zero interest in replaying any of these games as there are just too many other great games coming out on a regular basis.

Oooh, Metal Gear Solid HD... I might be interested if MGS2 restores the stuff that had to be nixed due to the timing of the release (such as the Big Shell levelling a part of Manhattan). Other than that I don't see much reason not to just stick with the PS2 releases, as HD isn't really that spectacular to me.

As hopeful as I am for a "Director's Cut" Version of MGS2, it would not surprise me if it's just an improved version of Substance. Regardless, I'm still going to snap this up day one, despite already owning MGS2, MGS3, and Peace Walker.

I will get the Metal Gear Solid Collection because I'm a huge fan, and possibly the Silent Hill Collection because I think it would look very good in HD. I think it's funny Silent Hill 4 isn't in the collection.

I wonder if I should throw my copies online now. I wish we had more info, if "born from a wish" from silent hill 2 isn't included ile keep my copy of 2.

The screenshots show that the actual models aren't being enhanced, but I'm still really interested in this. To me, it's worth it for 16:9 presentation and digital surround sound.

I will definitely be picking up both the ZOE and Metal Gear collections. I at one point owned all of these titles but traded them in for more games due to being a teenager with no cash. ;)

Although I doubt it I hope that the MGS collections are the substance and subsistence versions of both games. I had never played the MSX versions of Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake but I heard it was included in the "special" edition of Snake Eater. It would be icing on the cake if they were included with the remastered MGS 3.

Uh, considering they rereleased them in the MGS collection a while back, they'll definitely go with the special editions of all games.

I doubt they'll include the old MGS games. Knowing Konami they'll probably include them with the original. I hope. Or sell them separately just to milk a bit more money from the fans.

I was thrilled when I read this yesterday! I'm all over the MGS and Silent Hill remakes, could care a less about ZOE. Why Konami wouldn't remake the original MGS is beyond me? Maybe cuz they remade it on the Cube?

Something is likely planned for that separately since next year is the 25th anniversary of the franchise as a whole.

Yeah, I'll probably wind up getting the MGS and ZOE HD packages. Even though I wanted it, I still knew they weren't gonna include MGS1 since these arent full remakes just upgrades, kind of like the God of War Collection on the PS3, and the graphics are upped in resolution and some 2D art is enhanced.

One question though if anyone can answer: When they announced the PSP Remaster series for the PS3, they said you would be able to use your PSP save data on the new PS3 release so, for example, if I already beat God of War Ghost of Sparta on my PSP, I could transfer that save over and start with all my maxed out stats on the PS3. Now, with this announcement for the MGS port, will I still be able to use my Peace Walker PSP save on the PS3 game....or have I just misread the original news release?

Kitsune Sniper
06-04-2011, 11:51 AM
Nope, that means you can take your save game and keep going with it on the other system. When you're done with that one, you transfer it back to your other system.

It's pretty much explained in the Mega64 trailer.

Transfarring. Stupid name added to take credit from something that's already going to be possible between the released games and the other devices.

I hope with the Zone of Enders HD Collection we get a Zone of Enders 3. And hopefully it doesn't suck.

I wouldn't consider it milking if it was a full remake of Metal Gear Solid. I would rather see the original game rebuilt then to get an upscaled version of the Twin Snakes..wasn't a fan of the cutscenes in that version or the inclusion of FPS mode.

One thing that did nag at me a bit was the exclusion of Portable Ops in this collection. I know that Peace Walker was more or less PO 2.0 but the game was still an enjoyable experience.

So it was confirmed recently that the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection will be based off the Subsistence and Substance versions of 3 and 2 and that Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2 Solid Snake will be included with the package.

On the same note in the Japanese release they are going to get a download voucher for MGS1 and instead of that here we are getting an upscale version of Peace Walker hopefully with online capabilities...which I really don't think is a bad trade.

Okay. THAT. Is awesome.

MGS1 can be purchased off PSN pretty cheaply anyway, and I doubt there'll be trophies for it. I can live with Peace Walker instead of MGS1. Now what about Portable Ops / Acid?

substantial_snake
08-14-2011, 03:12 AM
I personally couldn't care less about the inclusion of MGS1 in this package if this is the way they are going to do it (isan't it a 10 dollar download now anyways?), loved peace walker and its cool to see that more people are going to get to play it. Trophies aren't mentioned for MGS1 in Kojima's twitter feed so I doubt it as well, however support is confirmed for MGS2 and 3 for all the trophy/achievement whores out there. :p

Its too bad that Portable Ops isan't in this package since its a canon and fun entry in the series. Hopefully, if this sells well, this will lead to a "Metal Gear Solid GEMS Collection" with Portalbe Ops, Ac!d 1, 2, and Metal Gear Ghost Babel.

Japan is just getting a download voucher to get the PSN download of MGS1, so trophy support was never in the cards.

I hope for Japans sake that they get Peace Walker too, I don't get why they wouldn't. PW is the reason I'm excited for this at all, I never could bother with playing it on a cramped PSP.

My interest dropped a bit when I saw these are all going for $50. Typical Konami greed. Even Sony and Ubisoft have the sense to release their HD re-releases at $30-40.

... What?

You're getting five games. Metal Gear, Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake, MGS2 Substance, MGS3 Subsistence, and Peace Walker.

The other rereleases have two to three games.

TL;DR... stop complaining. This is still a hell of a deal.

Edit: I realize my comment was a bit condescending, and apologize. It's still a decent price for all those games.

I don't agree. These are all relatively dated games with the exception of Peace Walker and unlike most $50-$60 releases, the bulk of the development costs have long since been covered and they use a very small team to do the upgrades needed to the graphics engine. This should have been a $30-$40 package.

Two of those games are MSX releases from the 1980's. While my interest in this primarily stems from wanting to play those two games, that isn't the case for most people. To most people, that's just bonus content that they'll maybe look at for 2 minutes someday.

For the vast majority of individuals that purchase this release, this is a three game collection. It should be released at a budget price just like these other HD upgrades have been.

I'm surprised that the MGS collection is coming to 360 but I also don't care. The one I wanted was the Silent Hill collection. I know I can just get it for my PS3 but I'd rather have a 360 version with achievements. I'm picking up the second GOW collection for my PS3 and the Halo remake for my 360 but I prefer my third party games on the 360. Hopefully Konami comes to their senses.

Super happy about ZoE coming, I too loved the original (never got the play the second, but it is on my list!) and ironically ZoE was the first PS2 game I ever played, and I played it for hours in a Circuit City while my parents were buying a TV. It was kind of a magical night...

What's this?" Yes, the Jehuty figure is pretty breathtaking, but something even more interesting can be found behind it: a "Z.O.E. 3DS" logo, with the "3DS" a subtle alteration of the mirrored ZOE logo. Part of another logo can be seen to the left, revealing "...bis: 2" That is perhaps a reference to Anubis, the Japanese name for Zone of the Enders 2.

This ZOE logo could be anything: a ported Zone of the Enders game for 3DS (like Metal Gear Solid 3D: Snake Eater (http://joystiq.com/game/metal-gear-solid-3d-snake-eater)); a new sequel (as in "Zone of the Enders 3" in the west and "Anubis: 2" in Japan); or a canceled project that never made it past the "really cool logo" stage. Furthermore, Kojima could just be messing with his followers.http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif (http://www.joystiq.com)Hideo Kojima tweets 'ZOE 3DS' logo (http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/16/hideo-kojima-tweets-zoe-3ds-logo/) originally appeared on Joystiq (http://www.joystiq.com) on Tue, 16 Aug 2011 12:15:00 EST. Holy shitballs. Thank god I didn't sell my greatest hits version of 2, that sounded HORRIBLE.

The original dubb of james had a very relatable voice that you could connect with, the new voices all try too hard to be dramatic. I wanted to play silent hill2 & 3 in hD...but now...fuck it

All of them sounds so soulless - the kind of voices PSX jrpgs with a low budget had. I will always remember Mary with her innocent and sort of frail voice, this sounds too generic. I don't get why they are doing this... Perhaps it was impossible to reuse the original voices in 5.1 for some reason?

Either way, :bawling:

Konami did the same thing with Castlevania: SOTN in Dracula X Chronicles. They erased from history THE most iconic video game voice track of all time. No respect for the past. It's a George Lucas move.

In other news: Silent Hill HD is now on 360 and $40. My interest is rising. Still is a joke that they're unable to put Silent Hill 1 or MGS on either compilation. Kind of like how The Orange Box felt incomplete without the original Half-Life.

Silent Hill in HD would only be silly, but yeah, it could at least include a download voucher for the PSN release. I still don't get why they won't include Silent Hill 4 though, are they ashamed of it? It was the worst of the four but still managed to be incredible in some ways, they really had some original ideas!

Wow, I hope that they have an option for the original voices as well. I know that they won't though. The thing is, these types of compilations are for the fans; no one else who hasn't played these games by now cares, but the fans aren't going to appreciate things like changing the voices. :|

This is definitely a disappointment. I'm probably the biggest Silent Hill fan (the original three) you'll ever meet, and I'll still purchase these, but I really wish that they left the original voice overs alone, or at least used the same voice actors.

It was awful that they actually put the Silent Hill name on that game. I may have actually given it more of a chance if they just kept it whatever game it was originally going to be. It just wasn't Silent Hill.

Finally some good news. I'm not sure why they wouldn't release it for the 360 in the first place. I know that the majority of the HD remake packages have been coming out for the PS3 and I really don't mind since I have most of those games anyway. But every now and then they are bound to release something that should come out for both systems.

I agree, it wasn't Silent Hill and should've just been named "The Room" or whatever. Still, I'm not one to completely disregard a game just because of the title. It wasn't just the title of the game though. They tried to tie the game to Silent Hill and pass it off as a canon installment to the series. That ruined it for me. There are certain things about Silent Hill which are series mainstays. Unlimited item management, the other world, the white noise when enemies are close, etc..

Take the whole limited items deal in The Room. The reason that you can carry unlimited items in previous Silent Hill games is probably because in reality, you aren't actually carrying them at all. Most of the things that happen in Silent Hill are happening in the protagonist's mind, or are a distortion from what's actually going on in the real world. It's hard for me to accept that it's the same ominous force that traps Henry in his room in part 4 that also lures sinners like James to Silent Hill in other installments.

Slapping the Silent Hill name on a game that's clearly NOT a Silent Hill game was just a sloppy thing to do. It creates and fails to meet certain expectations by calling itself a Silent Hill game, and really sent the series into a nose dive.

I know that now with my fresh 3DS, which I did not expect I would be buying at all, I am going to be compelled to buy both the ZOE and MGS collections along with their 3DS counterparts...I feel dirty. No matter weather its a remake, remix, or new title I want to buy them, these both been some of my favorite franchises.

I was able to get a pre order in for the Ultimate HD Collection: Metal Gear Solid. In case you are not familiar with the item, it is a ps3 collection and world exclusive to Zavvi (a store in the UK.) It comes with a voucher for MGS and a disc version of MGS4. The tin case it comes in is numbered as there are only 4k copies available world wide. As a bonus, the game comes with 5 art cards.

It sold out on Zavvi dot com in a matter of hours. With only 4k copies being made, I believe this will be a good collectible in the future.
