I was looking at my NGPC 4-way joystick adapters last night, and it dawned on me that, outside of arcades, I couldn't think of any other 4-way joystick/arcadesticks (that can't do diagonals) for any console or portable system. Are there any?

So, basically, you're looking for 4 way, not 8 way, correct?

A lot of the Jakks Pacific plug-and-plays only have 4 way joysticks, although the games are coded for 8 way input. For instance on the Ms. Pac-Man ones with Xevious you only get 4 way movement because of how the joystick is built but if you open it up and remove the makeshift gate, diagonal movement is fine in the game.

The Ms. Pac-Man I have is 8 way and has control issues with Ms. Pac-Man. I heard the new Pac-Man with extra games is 4 way. The old Namco stick is definitely 4 way (which is bad for Bosconian).

Yup, they vary between releases. Bosconian is WAY too challenging with a 4 way stick.

The base of the XE-1 Pro joysticks (http://media.photobucket.com/image/recent/MetalSlug01/XE1PRO.png) (for PC Engine, NES, etc) has a ring which can be rotated 90-degrees and forces the joystick to operate as a 4-way.
