I was considering moving over to maybe a 320GB slim. I've been playing fewer PS2 games lately, and own a region mod PS2 anyway. Curious if the idea is cost effective. Cooler/quieter would be very nice too. Even free of YLOD these early PS3s run hot.

With luck you could probably get $200 for the machine, leaving you with the need to come up with another $150 for the 320GB.

I mean, if YLOD worries you a lot, and you want to cut bait on it now, then might as well pull the trigger.

If you're not using your system a lot, then I don't think it should be too much of a concern. Maybe just upgrade the HDD if you want more space.

I think it would be worth as much as a new PS3.

200 seems about right, though there seems to be a lot of variability from 130 to 300 depending on condition, completeness, etc.

I tell ya, though, put new/good thermal compound on the chips and you'll be in great shape. Mine doesn't ever seem to kick into jet engine mode anymore, even the other day when the AC was only keeping that room ~80F.
