The new 3DS eStore goes live today and the update supposedly contains a functional web browser (no flash, though).

Anyone downloaded the update yet?

I plan on doing it tonight. My partner gave me a new 3DS + SF4 for my birthday and I really like it. I wasn't planning on getting one for myself... I never even got a DS. Now I'm waiting for some better software (Zelda) and playing Dementium II until then. I can't believe I am finally getting used to playing a FPS with a stylus.

I've been checking, and so far the update isn't available yet. By the way, isn't there already a web browser on it?

Nope, didn't ship with one.

To be included with the update.

I must have been thinking of the DSi. By the way, apparently the update causes a bug in Ridge Racer. It doesn't sound major, but it's intriguing that an update can affect a specific, cartridge based game.

I'm starting to hear rumor that the update will be delayed until tomorrow. In all honesty it makes more sense for them to have released it alongside the conference. They did that with the Wii update last year.

but why would they do that? use today as the day and change it at the last second?

I also heard they were going to run the update tomorrow during the presentation.

Maybe they gave a fake date to take attention away from Microsoft and Sony's presentations.

I believe that it will be released at 12:00 noon Japan Time, and thus 9 P.M. Canadian/U.S. Mountain Time. While I could be wrong, that's just how it seems to me, that Nintendo will release this if not at noon then before the end of the Japanese work day.

I share your sentiment. LOL

I wonder if they are having problems. They were actually supposed to have the update happen in May, but it got delayed. Perhaps the 3DS has some bugs that got missed.

It's 8:52 pacific time and my 3ds swears the system is up to date. Guess ill wait a little while, maybe try again tomorrow. I hope it's not delayed again.

Took a while to actually work. Got an error a bunch of times, but update installed. Browser works, store is under maintenance and haven't got to test the software switch because I don't have a dsi.

Guys when you do get the update and if you get a Gameboy game hold start when you start it up, you get a smaller screen but a nifty Gameboy border!

I still haven't found out how to get the yellow color scheme, also you get one save state.

EDIT:
Figured out how to get the yellow color scheme, during gameplay, hold both L and R and press Y, you should use it with the Gameboy border for maximum effect.

Posting this from my 3DS. Update is underwhelming and I can't buy credit in the eShop. Excitebike 3D is loud and no way to share custom tracks. Also no Netflix or YouTube.

The Web browser doesn't handle audio files and no tabs either. It pales in comparison to Opera Mini and Mobile.

But I can't complain... oh wait. ;)

Wow 1 am Est? That's 2 am my time.

That's a pretty liberal definition of evening.

I was getting some error messages after the download, especially when I was active in the eShop. I bet every DSi owner in the world is trying to access it at the same time. Perhaps that's a justification for releasing it so late, so the servers can keep up.

I bought Mario land.

Weren't they going to add 3D to the old games? Wasn't that the point?

No, they are only going to add it to some games (like Excitebike). I doubt any of those will be the original Gameboy games.

Well, excitebike is pretty cool, and the 3d effects are great. I can't wait to see more stuff like this.

However, I hate how Nintendo always chooses to reissue inferior versions of their older games. They did it before when they released the inferior NES version of Donkey Kong for the GBA, and they opted to base the Excitebike remake on the inferior us NES port. Vs. Excitebike for the famicom disk system is superior to the NES version in nearly every aspect. (it's even got a 2 player vs mode!) And its completely in English. That game seriously needs a US release, and no translation would be necessary. I haven't had a wii in a few years, so I don't know for sure, but I'm doubtful it made it's way to the virtual console.

Not much to choose from yet but they already announced Zelda DX being right around the corner.
More 3d capable nes/snes classics would be an awesome addition.
Yoshi's Island, Super Mario RPG, Donkey Kong Country Trilogy in 3D...

I enjoyed downloading the E3 trailers from the eShop. It's the only way to see the upcoming 3DS games in actual 3D. I have to say, the Mario Kart game has the best 3D effects I've seen on the 3DS. Absolutely incredible! Of course the Mario game looks cool as well.

Where are the downloadable demos of current 3DS retail games?

I want to try Steel Diver and Dream Trigger.

When will we be able to get Netflix? That was part of what sold me on the 3DS in the first place.

Only Nes and SuperNes games are being ported to the hardware and getting the 3D enhancement.

All TurboGrafx-16, Game Boy, Game Boy Color, and Game Gear releases on the Virtual Console for the 3DS are emulated and can only output a 2D image.

Yes, Excitebike is loud as hell....why can't all the games be like that? Starfox 64 E3 trailers looks sick in 3D....

Interesting. SO, if Excitebike is actually loud ... that means that for some reason all the software to date doesn't tell the 3DS to output audio at the maximum volume.

One of my biggest complaints about the system is the strangely low volume on all of the games I've played. I'll have to give Excitebike a listen.
