Title says it all. I don't have the equipment or technical know-how to do it myself. The only thing I want is to be able to play import games, I don't care about homebrew or backups. I want to be able to play any game without worrying about region locking, and if at all possible, I want to avoid being banned off of Xbox Live with said mod.

Is there anyone who is in this business that I can absolutely trust and who will guarantee their work? I live in Jersey, by the way, if anyone needs to know.

I don't know if the shop deals in this, but you might want to stop by the Digital Press brick-and-mortar store in New Jersey to see if it sells/installs mods or knows of anyone else who does.

I don't think there's a way to mod a 360 to play imports, other than maybe a JTAG mod, which would only work on rickety old systems.

I do have a pro 20GB with HDMI...

i think the only thing you'll be able to do is mod the system to play backups. then download whatever game you want to play and change the region setting on the disc before you burn it. check craigslist, there are 100s of people who will mod your system cheap.

Can't say I'm a fan of pirating anything, but I suppose if I really get desperate I can do that, buy the game and rip it/download it so I at least own a copy.

Is Craigslist really trustworthy though?

You want a jtag 360 which can play any region 360 game,on a flashed 360 you cannot change the region of the game as it simply will not work.
Also on a jtag 360 going on live will get you banned very quickly.

Kernel must be 2.0.7371.0 or lower for that to work.

The only surefire way to not get banned from XBL for a modded system is to never take the system online which may entail having one legit system for online and one modded system for offline.

Well, if you're never going to take it online, who cares if it gets banned?
The problem with XBOX 360 mods is that it isn't just a one time thing. You'll need to keep getting new drive firmware and if you're on a JTAG machine, new custom dashboards.
You an go online with JTAG'd systems, even if they get banned, but I think it's more trouble than it's worth.

If I were looking to play Japan and north american games, I would just get a console from each region.
