View Full Version : Comments & questions about the SNES rarity list

Hi all!

As you may or may not know, I am getting together my SNES collection right now, so I had a few comments on the rarity list database that was listed for SNES.

I am just about through the letter F (starting alphabetically) and have found the rarity grades, pretty much right on the money. Considering that I have nearly 4000 SNES games, I am pretty confident I will be close to complete when I am through sorting.

A few notes about a couple of the rarer games I have gotten to:

- Chavez II is definitely a 8, I only had 1 out of all 4000 that I had.
- Exertainment Mountain Bike Rally is definitely rare too, (Only had 1 as well)
- Kid Kleetz is a toughie too (definitely at least a 6, I only have the box for it)

The one issue that I may have with the SNES list is the assumption that most people kept their boxes and manuals for SNES, and are therefore priced and rated accordingly. I think the prices are good for loose carts and the ratings are excellent, but not for complete games. I would treat the SNES the same as the NES, priced out as loose, not complete. I can understand that with the genesis list, considering they came in sturdy plastic strorage cases for the most part.

That is all I have to say, your comments and feedback are greatly appreciated!

Danny

This has definitely been my experience, too.

And I'm with you on the idea that the flimsy cardboard boxes didin't encourage people to save them. I'm finding the same thing, to a lesser degree of course, with the N64 so far.

The release years on the list aren't exactly accurate either... ISS and ISSD are said to be released in the same year. And I have seen a couple of Kid Kleetz auctions in the past couple of weeks...

It looks like the Exertainment/Speed Racer one is one of the rarest. what do you think the rarity would be on a factory sealed one?

prices do indeed fit better to lose than boxed games

one thing to add: do u really think e.v.o. is only an R4?? i'm getting it in a few days for 12? lose, and this was the only e.v.o. on german ebay in the last few weeks, i also checked US ebay (as this is a us game) NO boxed one, some lose, not many

I would think that is pretty tough to say, considering there has not been one on ebay, that I can remember. (Has anyone seen the cart only on ebay??) I don't have it, but I would not pay more for that game than I would the DK or Starfox competition carts. I am sure it would go for a respectable amount.

Thanks for the comments as always!

I'm forwarding this message to the attention of the current SNES Guide section owners. Look here for additional comments/questions if they have any.

I definitely have to agree with Vader about the box issue. I NEVER come across boxed SNES games, and only somewhat more frequently find boxed N64 games. In my experience I'm much more likely to find complete NES games than SNES or N64, for some reason. Genesis on the other hand is MUCH more likely to be complete, for exactly the reason he mentioned.

Same here... I find that pretty much no carts can be assumed defaulting as complete. Most of the Genesis carts I find are cart only, even.

Danny, you are just about right on the money on all 3 of your observations.

One note, the dual cart Mountainbike Rally/Speed Racer Exertainment Cart is definitely the scarcest cart released for the SNES, moreso than the competition carts. I know of one copy and it is loose, if anyone else knows of someone with this cart please let me know especially if it has box or manual. The company "Life Fitness" was contacted, and the spokesperson did not have any knowledge/stored information that this dual cart even existed, only the two separate releases.

If you have any questions or discoveries during your inventory, drop me a PM or an email D_N_G@yahoo.com

Also, I would be interested in a trade sell list if you ever make one ;)

I have never seen the cart either, I am guessing by anotherfluke's post that they might have it, it would be nice to see a picture of it if possible.

I have the first one, Mountain Bike Rally. I have only one, and just completed it this month by buying the manual on ebay. That game is pretty rare too, but the prices on SNES games haven't been driven through the roof yet since most people are focused on their NES collection. That's kinda the reason I am busting my ass to get this all in order, so I can pick up what I need before the prices go through the roof. (Same thing with the genesis games, plan on doing that in fall)

When I do get done with the SNES, I will gladly take want lists. Joe has contacted me first so I will go through his list first. When it comes time to sell my duplicates, I am not going to be asking crazy amounts for games, but at the same time I know many of my dups are worth some big $$$. If I get "respectable" offers, I will accept them. But, for example, if someone thinks they will get one of my Mega man x3's for $25, they are high on crack.

DNG: PM me with your list and I will be happy to work with you on your want list (maybe you have some games I need as well)

Later all, gotta finish the F's and G's tonight (hopefully)

I emailed DNG about this, but yes, I have a copy of the game. It is factory sealed, however Nintendo's database doesn't have any information about the game ever being released, and since I bought it from Nintendo's Garage Sale last year, I cannot verify that it was ever released in stores.

Just to reply to Austin's email publically for everyone's info, There were around 32 copies of the game, in the box that games are shipped from the werehouse in.

I will be selling both copies of the game, per my "Selling It All" thread that was posted in the OT forum, so you'll both have a chance to own it. One copy will go up on the bay this weekend, the other will be an auction Item at CGE.

I'll take a pic when I get home tonight, and post here.

Just a little update on my progress. Just got done seperating the letter S and now I am starting to go through them. No real surprises. I am amazed at how accurate the SNES rarity list is. By the time I am done, I will probably need between 50 and 100 games to have the set complete. Alot of the games I need are very, very common (I sold a bunch of sports titles off before deciding to get this collection together)

Thanks to my good friend Dave, I am making good progress and should be done with it before the CGE. (I think I may be buying lots of SNES stuff if there is some at the show) :P

Like I stated before though, I would treat the SNES the same as the NES, priced out as loose, not complete.

That is all for now. Have a good rest of the weekend everyone!

Final report from my findings:

Just finished sorting through the games about 15 minutes ago. It takes a long damn time to do all of this, but it was well worth it. No surprises, the rarity list is AWESOME, Joe! It is EXTREMELY accurate! I should have all of the carts I need in a few months, boxes and manuals in about 5-6 months. Rarity grades were pretty much dead on. That is all, I am going to have a beer, as my reward to myself for doing this! ;)

It's good to know we're on the right track with the list and the rarities - the SNES section desperately needs CONTENT, which I'm sure we'll get cracking on once the CGE crusade is over. Thanks as always for the feedback!

Anonymous

by 'content' do you mean descriptions of the games? If you ever need a description of the game and basics (year/month of release, publisher, players, codes, nintendo power refs/ratings, etc) of the game, let me know. I happen to have a very handy database ready...

Just out of curiosity, has anyone come across these 3 games:

Barbie Vacation Adventure
International Superstar Soccer
International Superstar Soccer Deluxe

I thought Mayhem stated he has International superstar soccer, but I am having no luck finding any of these on ebay. Does anyone have these games, I am interested in buying them if it is possible.

Thanks

mhhh do you have all other missing games? is it that hard to find barbie? i've never heard about this game being incredibly rare

iss (deluxe) are two of the games with the most rumours about them but the least facts, what IS a fact is that there is a Rom of the US Version of ISS Deluxe but none of the normal version
there also exists a rom of Barbie, there are rumours that the ISS games were only released in Mexiko or whatever

perhaps you could try to find out who dumped the two roms?? that might help on your search

Barbie Vacation Adventure
International Superstar Soccer
International Superstar Soccer Deluxe

Barbie Vacation Adventure was cancelled in the US.

ISS and ISSD were both released, in June and November of 1995, respectively. ISS only appears in NP 85, but ISSD appears in 78, 86, 96, and 100. There were also 2 N64 games and one Original GB game, and a second GB game and a third N64 game were planned (both called ISS 2000) but later cancelled.

No idea on the rarity of them, but I would bet that a game seeing so many sequels would probably have been at least somewhat popular.

Mayhem

I remember seeing US SNES ISS advertised and listed in mail order places here in the UK, but never got hold of a copy. I never saw ISS Deluxe advertised or mentioned in US format EVER. I have also NEVER come across either game for US SNES format on eBay either. Both of course are easy to find in PAL format.

As for the N64 versions, ISS64 and ISS98 were released to buy. I've been told ISS2000 did come out in the US but rental or limited availability only. I've not seen this on eBay either. PAL release is tricky but not hard to find.

Anonymous

Well, you can always check with Konami to be absolutely sure, but the information above comes from Nintendo's own internal database. It's about as official as you can get. If ISS2000 was released here, it was unlicensed.

If you take out those 3 games, I am down to 6 or 7 games that I need and I have seen all of those before so I know they are out there.

@Hydrox: you mentioned that you have seen the ROM dump of the ISS deluxe, do you have a website to point me to so I can attempt to hunt down the person who has this?

@Anotherfluke: thanks for the info on the 3 games. If the 2 soccer games were actually released, you would think there would be 1000's of them out there, but I just haven't come across them at all.

Other than that the SNES rarity list is shaping up nicely guys! The added content is great. I told Joe about another Rumor mill title called METAL JACK. The box art shows up on half.com. Nathan, maybe you know something about the history of this title.

And that could be the problem we have with Super Copa as well. So what's the call on games that were potentially/are Mexico only, but may have trickled up the border? Joe?

Barbie Vacation Adventure will be sidelined until someone turns up a copy. If that never happens, so be it.

A few weeks back Exertainment/Speed Racer was up on ebay SEALED i can't remember the exact price but it was close to $370.. it finished

The seller of the game also posts here, i spoke to them a few days before the auction ended to see if he's ship to the UK, i knew it would go for $$ but more like $180 - $220 but it went for alot more!

Also regarding ISS i have been searching for both ISS and ISSD for along time, with no luck but i have gained some info on my travels.

First i contacted Konami (Europe) and asked about a NTSC / American version of either ISS or ISSD, i got a reply saying it only got a european release on the snes and the N64 and they said "No" to the US version ever getting a release.

So i was alittle confused that konami wouldn't release ISS in the US ( IMO ISS is the greatest Snes Soccer game)... To say the least i was pissed that the best console in the world (US SNES) didn't have a US release of Either ISS or it's sequel ISSD.

Then i came across an articule/interview with a guy (in konami) that made the decisions about which games would get released and where.

Anyway he said when it came to the mexico released games they (Konami) could either release POP 'n' Twin Bee or ISS, and since Soccer has a huge following in South America, he and his team went with ISS.

But by the sound of things it was mainly a south American release, i could be wrong but i have never come across ISS on ebay.com or the tons of online shops that sell second hand snes games?! and i have serached high and low for the last 5 years..

Also Pop 'n' Twin bee was a great scrolling shooter, that should have got a US release it's a very cool / anime style / shooter that didn't make it to the US.

Also ISS and Pop both got UK / European releases! and the same in japan. but not the US??

Well I got this game today, but I am pretty sure that it is a fraudulent cart.

The label on the cart looked fishy since it did not have:
-any nintendo seal on it
-any model number on it
-konami's name wasn't on it
-side label did not have the name of the game on it
-lablel also looked like a bad photocopy
-was glued together (the 2 screws were missing)

Then I opened it up and looked at the board:
-the board did not have nintendo's name on it

I'll snap some pics and post them here later, but I guess the search for this game goes on.......... :(

This is in regard to Power Drive for SNES.

I recently saw this game in a second hand store, whilst DP claims that it wasn't even released!

Don't worry.
Power Drive is already in the PAL SNES listing. It was published by US Gold.
