The Miis have cleaned up after their tame soiree (http://joystiq.com/game/wii-party), handing the keys to the venue back to Mario and pals, who are throwing Mario Party 9 on the Wii.

We were going to joke about Mario being a serial partier, but we realized that just twelve get-togethers (counting the GBA, DS, and e-Reader outings) since 1998 is actually not that much social interaction.Gallery: Mario Party 9 (E3 2011) (http://www.joystiq.com/photos/mario-party-9-e3-2011/)

With Mario Party 8 selling so well, and the Wii being the party/mini-game console, I'm surprised it's taken them this long to come out with the 9th entry.

The N64 got 3, the GC 4 and the Wii 2...? Doesn't seem right. Also are all the characters in that one car the entire game? I've yet to see them otherwise.

Will skip this but Mario Party 10 on the Wii U should be very interesting.

Good news for me. I didnt see Mario Party 8 as a proper entry in the series. All but 1 board sucked, no proper widescreen, no online multiplayer(though I dont trust Ninty to get that right this gen). I'm glad that they made less this gen than the previous 2 but I hope they give us one proper Mario Party this gen.

I've never bought nor played any of these... maybe I'll check this one out.

Interesting. I've always enjoyed this series so I'm looking forward to the next offering. Great game for local multiplayer, but solo mode gets boring after a bit.

The best of the series IMO are 1 and 2 for N64, and then 4 for Gamecube. The rest are re-hashes with either gimmicks, stale minigames, or sucky boards. Try those out, forget the rest.

I'm still amazed that the Gamecube and especially the N64 versions are all still very much in demand. They sell quite briskly on ebay for me.
