Mame.dk Roms Down

I don't know how many people here visit www.mame.dk, but their roms have just gone down (again). How long it would stay that way is anyone's guess.

Just wanted to pass that along, since I rely on that site a lot (I just recently downloaded a bunch of Data East and Toaplan games). Anybody know what the situation over there is?

It looks like it will be down for quite some time. They claim there were not enough donations made to keep the ROM download portion going. Even with the recent addition of pop ups, it probably was a losing proposition for them. It was bound to happen sooner or later, especially with MAME spreading so quickly now.

I guess it was a little too much to ask for all the people who wanted to play their favorite arcade games for free, to donate money to play them. It kind of defeats the purpose to most people.

That's really too bad. I feel a little guilty myself, never sending them any money for their troubles, but I've never trusted the online-payment thing (and I don't have credit cards).

Maybe we should all just send them something as a thank-you. If not money, then something else of value.

Here's hoping we see them back in business again.

I noticed that they had disabled downloading the other day. It kind of sucks, since I d/led most of my MAME roms from there. Oh well, it's understandable, since the bandwidth they use must be crazy and cost a friggin' fortune. I'd donate something if I wasn't so broke. :|
