Never played the Dino crisis series when they were released. I have vague memory's of the first silent hill but never played thru it or it's sequels . Being that I'm a huge fan of the first 3 resident evils what would you recommend?

I like the dark atmosphere of the resident evils so back then the idea of battling dinosaurs seemed silly. On the other hand I'm guessing it plays more like r.e. since it's a capcom game.

The silent hill series looks cool and I know it's since grown to a great franchise but the fact it's made by konami makes me second guess it.

Feel free to leave any thoughts or opinions... Thanks guys!!!

If you are looking for something like Resident Evil then I'd say Dino Crisis plays more like Resident Evil. They are both Capcom games.

I prefer the Silent Hill series over Resident Evil but if you are a big fan of Resident Evil then you may like Dino Crisis better.

The gameplay of SH is very similar to RE, but the themes, atmosphere, and overall feeling of the two series are completely different. Both have the atmospheric thrill, but the scares are more visual in RE and more psychological in SH.

I haven't played Dino Crisis, so I can't really comment on that. But you should really try out Silent Hill. It's well worth it. :)

I'm a fan of both series, and I love them equally much. So try the SH series, see what you think of it. The two series are similar on gameplay, but that's where the likeness stops. ;)

Honestly the actual gameplay of both SH and DC are similar to Res Evil. DC is a bit faster paced. If I were you, I'd play the first SH next though. I played through that game when it first came out, and to this day it's the creepiest game I've ever played. The atmosphere of the game is so haunting and unique. I can remember playing it at night and being scared to get up and go to the bathroom because of the state that it puts you in. Of course that was when it was new. Perhaps it hasn't aged well, I don't know, but if you like the original RE games, you should definitely be able to get into SH.

Definitely play Silent Hill next. I loved Dino Crisis, but if you're looking for a good horror game, then SH is it. DC is more actiony with thrills but not many "chills," as it were.

Silent Hill utterly obliterates Dino Crisis in every conceivable way.

I guess play Dino Crisis if you really, really like dinosaurs, or something.

I've never actually played any of the Dino Crisis games, but I can tell you without any exaggeration, that Silent Hill (1-3), for the select few who really, truly yet it, are the sort of games that you'll be telling your grand children about one day when they ask; "grandpa, were there video games when you were a kid?".

The window is probably closed now for the uninitiated (assuming you're one who can't get the same experience from past gen tech), but I can tell you in all seriousness that Silent Hill 2: Restless Dreams absolutely FUCKED MY LIFE UP FOR MONTHS. The shit use to keep me up at night, and I don't just mean when I was playing it, either. I'd be sitting up in my bed at 1:00a.m., rocking back and forth and shit. I couldn't play it for long stretches, man -- I use to have to put that shit away after so many hours, real talk.

That game is a masterpiece, IMO, It pretty much set the standard for psychological horror in games.

dino crisis for gameplay, silent hill for atmosphere

That is perhaps the best concise summary of both of these games. If you really love the genre and are a hard-core gamer, I would play both games because they offer vastly different experiences.

There's Parasite Eve by Square and Fear Effect by Eidos, too.

Parasite Eve is an RPG though. It's not scary in the least.

As for the topic... I like Dino Crisis even though it has some huge design flaws. Basically, if you want something more actiony then its the game for you.

This perfectly describes me.

As much a SH fan I may be, I liked both Dino Crisises. Never tried the disasterous 3rd game though.

I hope you like Jurassic Park!

I would suggest Silent Hill first although I never played all the way thru Dino Crisis. But if you are a big RE fan and like horror games Silent Hill should be right up your alley.
