I remember this game i used to play, it was an rpg. your character started off in this town with an armory and pub, the town was like a maze and you could only move one space at a time. you got your first quest from someone in the pub, the quest led you to a labyrinth of sewers where you fought creatures. i vaguely remember something about green moss? can anyone tell me what game this is...

What did you play it on?
What sort of view did you have? (top-down, 1st person, isometric?)

My wild guess sense is saying "Bard's Tale"?

Bard's Tale was the first game I thought of, too. But then...his description is so RPG cliche, it could be a lot of different games. It was always either kill the moss or kill the rats.

Is it Shining in the Darkness (http://www.mobygames.com/game/shining-in-the-darkness)?

I haven't played it in forever but I remember a pub, the whole "move one space at a time" thing, and the whole game has a very labyrinthine feel with it's first person perspective.

Was this on the PS2? I seem to remember a game where you went into the cellar of a tavern and fought rats, but I have no idea of the name as I only played it on a store kiosk.

Reading up on Bard's Tale, it really could be it. I'm looking up playthroughs on Youtube but I'm just not sure if it's what I played, the perspective looks the same but I don't really remember any other details. I really don't remember a giant rat, I really thought the guy just killed tons of regular rats.

As Ryaan1234 already said... Shining in the Darkness for the Sega Genesis.

The town consists of a Pub and an Armory.

The rest of the game takes place in a multi level dungeon/sewer and some of the first monsters you fight are green slimes.

Wizardry, from 1981, contained a pub, an armory, and green slime (ooze, maybe). So has pretty much every RPG since then, I'm guessing. Good luck!

NES Pools of Radiance, or like everyone else already mentioned, Shining in the Darkness.

Baldur's Gate on PS2.

Baldur's Gate on PS2.

It's not played in a first person perspective. Or atleast that's what I gathered from the town being a maze and you could only move one space at a time.

if we're gonna list rpg's that have a pub and an armory we'll be here for a while :p

the system you played it on (or the shape of the controller) is gonna be a big help

well it is hard to be more descriptive.. it was a PC game, first person view. i can't remember where i got it. i'm pretty sure it was a DOS game, but i could be wrong... there were a couple of other locations besides the armory and pub. i never got very far cause i always died in the sewers..

Shining in the darkness is the closest match so far, but i remember the buttons, creatures, and world looking slightly different...

It sounds very much like Bard's Tale, as if I remember right, the game actually started in the tavern.
