Just thought I'd mention to everyone here that I'm working on a hack of the Genesis version of Samurai Shodown. I'm taking out all of Takara's censored dialogue and replacing it with text that's more faithful to the arcade game. The edited text was always something that bothered me about this otherwise faithful translation of the Neo-Geo classic. However, thanks to modern technology, I can finally address the problem and make the game even closer to the arcade version.
If anyone's interested in testing a beta version of this hack, send me a PM and I'll shoot it your way. Just be sure you've got enough room in your mailbox, because the file is over 1.5 megs in length.

There was a Genesis version? How did it stack up against the SNES version? (IIRC, the SNES version was one of the relatively few 32 Mb carts.)

I think the Genesis version was better. It had larger characters, fatalities, and considering the system, the graphics and sound were excellent. However, the Super NES game does have its advantages, including the win portraits after every fight and, of course, Earthquake.

Here ya go Jorpho, all the info you need. Minus the fact that it has been proven that the artery spray is indeed in the Genesis version. Edit coming soon.

The [Super] Game Boy version is missing, too. ;) (And isn't Kuroko in that last screenshot for the Sega CD, even though the review says he wasn't included?)

I didn't cover the portable versions. I didn't have them all at the time. I very well may do a comparison of the portable versions when I have them all. And now that I look, I believe that Sega CD shot is actually a either the 3DO or Arcade shot. Way too much background detail for it to be anything else....

"Genesis... sound... excellent?"
Oh hush, Grandpa Munster. I think the sound was pretty good by Genesis standards. The ringing of sword against sword is surprisingly clear, and the voices are only slightly staticy. The music suffers a little... it's nowhere near as complex as it was on the Neo-Geo, but it's pleasant enough, without the irritating twang of many other Genesis soundtracks.

I must say that the review was an excellent one. It makes me want to go out and buy a 3DO just to play that version of the game. worth it?

Incidently, is Amakusa playable in each version? (I wonder who would eliminate that option?)
