Hey everybody, I wanted to let everyone know about a recent podcast started by some friends and I, called Well Versed in the Classics. The idea was, we love video games, talking about video games, and podcasts, so why not combine them?
We are most certainly not experts, nor do we pretend to be, just a few guys who love classic gaming and wanted to discuss the things we love and why they're important to us, or how we were shaped in our youth by the games we played.
It's set up for themed shows, such as NES & Master System, Genesis, we just recorded one on non-Square SNES RPGs, with plans for TG16, Sega CD, and Saturn coming up soon. Our last show was a real blast to record as we went to a friend's game store in Whitewater to do the show, we had a great time and I think it shows. We also plan to cover Wizard World Chicago this year, so anyone going to the show should for sure let us know, we'd love to talk to you or even put you on the cast! (It'll be my 17th straight year going to the convention... I started young!)
The talk is mainly console based, though we do have a PC guy who has a segment in the cast. The first few episodes have the PC segment folded into it, but we just recorded two more episodes and have decided to split the PC portion into it's own release - both to make it easier during editing and to help stagger releases. We only have four out thus far, but as I said we just recorded two more and plan to get them out on a near weekly basis from now on.
Anyways, I figured I'd spread the word to the great minds on DP, a site that I have found without peer for many years, you guys are the best! Feel free to email us with anything, or just PM me on here if you'd like. Thanks for listening!

Just a thought, maybe put a copy of the download link right at the bottom of each episode description. It took me a while to figure they were on the right side, I thought they were simply links to the same descriptions, I think it should be more obvious.

I have yet to listen, I listen to a lot of podcasts (even did a few segments on the Armchair Arcade podcast) so I am hoping this will be a good one.

Thanks you very much! It means a lot to hear that, and if you liked our first (*cough* roughest *cough*) episode, I think the rest will be even more enjoyable- the sound quality gets a lot better, and we find a bit of a groove, for sure.

Thanks for the suggestion, I can see how that might be confusing. I'll have to check out Armchair Arcade, too- I blow through a ridiculous amount of podcasts between work, school, and driving...

I listened to episode 0 and thought it was very good. You guys don't stammer like a lot of new podcast hosts do....or maybe you edited them out. Either way, the episode was very well done, imo. I've got episodes 1-3 on my ipod to listen to this week. Keep it up!

Thanks for the feedback! No, we don't stammer, really. Any editing is used to cover up a beer break, a barking dog (he's usually good, but sometimes decides he's not getting enough attention as soon as we press record), or non-PG language that slips out.

A question for anyone who listens to the rest of the episodes: do you prefer a separate PC podcast, or one with it folded into the console stuff?

Glad to get that thumbs up, Kent is certainly the resident TG guy. As far as Atari, you are spot on with the age thing- no nostalgia there. There is a bit of talk to do a show about systems we have never played, maybe taking the few days before to cram the games in and get some ideas. I just need to get that FM Towns Marty...

New episode is up - non-Square RPGs for the SNES! A broad topic, and we could easily make several more shows out of it. If we missed your favorite game, let us know!

Also, this weekend we recorded our second PC dedicated episode. The subject? 2 Lucas Arts games, specifically The Dig and Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis. We should have it up by the end of the week.

Look for weekly podcast episodes at least from now on, and hopefully daily content update on the site. We may give the site itself a small overhaul. Also, since we are trying to launch a local game show in our area in September we will have updates on the site regarding that whenever anything new breaks.

Thanks for giving us a chance, everybody, and as usual any feedback is always appreciated. And keep listening!

Wow this is great. I'm a big fan of the Retro League Podcast and your first 3 episodes sound to be just like what I like in a retro gaming podcast. I'm also in the area, yet I haven't made it to a Midwest Gaming Classic yet.

Thank you, Genesisguy! You are a true American. To be honest, I listen to a lot more non-video game podcasts than I do video game casts recently, because I have a sort of author's fear of accidentally plundering something or subconsciously repeating information heard elsewhere. I want to provide a totally original podcast.

We are recording our show strictly about Turbografx/Duo/PC Engine this week, and another PC episode this coming weekend. Our Lucasarts PC ep should be up in a few days.

New episode is up! We head back up to Level Up Games to join Allan in a discussion about video game movies, good and bad, and why some fail or succeed. We also try to identify just what elements it takes to make a great game movie...

New episode up! We went to Wizard World Chicago, and have an episode covering each day. Pictures of the WVITC crew in action will be added later as well, so you can see just how psyched we are about the whole thing.

I have been pretty forgetful about updating this, but here's what's new:

Our TurboGrafx/ TurboDuo/ PC Engine cast has been added!

PC Cast episode 4 is up discussing the Battletech and Mechwarrior games.

We recorded a new episode this weekend, which should be up soon. The subject? Playstation long box games. Also we talk a bit about the hardware itself, and the state of gaming at the time.

Our next PC episode is also ready to go. We are going to follow the Heroes of Might and Magic series from the first game to the present, of which H3 happens to be my favorite PC game of all time.

Thanks for listening!

I wish you guys would do more console talk. I was never a PC guy growing up, so I can't relate much to what you guys are talking about. I really, really enjoyed your PC Engine episode. Perhaps you could do the next one talking about Sega and the various add ons for the Genesis?

Update! It's been a while since I've bumped this, but not since we've made podcasts.

http://wellversedintheclassics.blogspot.com/

For those not in the know, since last post we've added episodes on:

PS1 Long Box Games
The Neo Geo
Heroes of Might & Magic Series
The CD-I
Epic MegaGames Shareware titles

And just added our Midwest Gaming Classic episode, actually recorded at the show- which we hadn't planned on doing, but everything came together and it turned out really well. You may have seen us recording it.

We've got some more good console stuff planned for this month, so stay tuned!

Hey everybody, after a bit of a hiatus on Well Versed in the Classics, we're gonna have our comeback episode shortly; think of it as 'Season 2'. After some interesting and exciting developments in our personal lives (Kent has actually moved to Japan, recementing him as our expert on all things import, and I recieved a nice promotion at work but in turn have no free time). Expect some cool stuff coming up, as future topics include games based on TV shows, a Genesis/ 32x centric episode, and plenty of good PC Cast stuff. Thanks for all the support and kind words you've given us in the past, and we hope you keep listening!
