For prosperity you should re-title this thread "July 2011 Finds" - if you're going to start it, start it right. :)

I feel I did pretty well this past week, after several weeks with the garage sales being pretty much dead due to the heat. I'm not looking forward to the end of this month, when I'll be forced to sit outside in the heat as my grandmother has her annual sale...

Anyway, here's what I found

- A bag of assorted old electronics with some video game stuff in it: $2
As for the noteworthy things in the bag:
- Super Mario Land 2: Six Golden Coins (European version)
- Super Mario Bros. 2
- The Goonies II
- NES Zapper (Orange)
- Assorted dice (Including a few d20s that look like they are older than I am)

That copy of Super Mario Land 2 was an unusual find for me; import stuff like that almost never turns up around here. I may already have a domestic copy, but I may sell that copy and keep this one.

- Two bags full of 49 NES games: $25
As for what was in them:
- A Boy and his Blob
- Adventure Island
- Adventures of Lolo
- Adventures of Lolo 2
- Adventures of Rad Gravity
- American Gladiators
- Base Wars
- Bases Loaded
- Bee 52
- Blades of Steel
- Bomberman (2 copies)
- Burgertime
- Captain Skyhawk
- City Connection
- Circus Caper
- Digger T. Rock
- Donkey Kong Classics
- Double Dragon 3
- Fester's Quest
- Frankenstein: The Monster Returns
- Friday the 13th
- Ghosts & Goblins
- Ghoul School
- Hudson Hawk
- Iron Tank
- Joe & Mac
- Joust
- Kiwi Kraze
- Little Nemo: Dream Master
- Mario is Missing!
- Mechanized Attack
- Milon's Secret Castle
- Muppet Adventure: Chaos at the Carnival
- Othello
- Platoon
- Pipe Dream
- Quattro Adventure
- Rampage
- Silent Service (2 copies)
- Super Mario Bros. 2
- Short Order \ Egg-splode!
- T&C Surf Design
- Tecmo Bowl
- The Simpsons: Bart vs. the Space Mutants
- Tetris
- Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
- Trog! (Torn label)

At the sale, which was just starting to close up since it was close to lunch, they where asking $1 each for the games. I began to look through what they had, and I nearly shat bricks when I saw Adventures of Lolo 2; which is one I had wanted for my collection, because of how much I liked the first one. However, because there where a few titles I didn't recognize, I decided to offer $25 for all the games; which they gladly accepted since they wanted it out of their way.

Non-gaming finds:
- Pink Flyod: Dark Side of the Moon (CD. Complete in very good condition): $1
- Adobe PhotoDeluxe 2.0 (Macintosh. Disc only) $.75
- Mac Mini (Late '06 model w\ IR remote and original restoration discs): $250
- Mac OS X Snow Leopard (Macintosh. New): $30

Finding that Mac Mini was a stroke of luck on eBay; They usually climb way out of my price range, but this one was in fully working condition with the remote and restoration discs and within my price range, so I jumped on it and ordered a new copy of Snow Leopard; since it's apparently running Tiger.

Now, I finally have a Mac newer than my old bondi blue iMac G3. However, I now need to look into a KVM...

I picked up two rumble packs from that same guy who sold me the Dreamcast stuff earlier in the week. $4.

I'll be listing them with two guns and House of the Dead on eBay after I clean everything up.

I had a couple of finds today, an N64 system with hookups and an NES system with hookups. I haven't tested them yet, but once I do I'll post a pic of the NES system. There's something odd about it, the plastic is perfectly smooth and the power adapter is official but very different compared to regular adapters. I think it may be an original launch unit or something similar.
Okay, I took a picture of the NES system. While most systems seem to have a slighty textured surface on top, this one is completely smooth. Plus the adapter is official but different than normal ones. Anyone know anything about why this one is different? It's actually the second one I've found like this, only I sold the previous one a few years ago without taking any pictures.

Red Dead Revolver & Resident Evil CODE: Veronica - Buck Each
Resident Evil - 1
Metal Gear Solid & No One Can Stop Mr. Domino - 3
Sega Genesis AC Adaptor - .25
The Rest of The Genesis Stuff - 1
Mario Kart 64 (Rough Looking) - .50
The Worst Looking SNES In The World With 2 Controllers - .50

All disk games (and The Lion King) complete. I was actually given Resident Evil 4 when I pointed out that it was a 2 disk game and that disk 2 was missing. The 2 PS1 games were 2 each, I tried to offer a buck each and we ended up meeting in the middle. No price, offered a quarter for the AC adaptor. Genesis stuff was at a sale that was .50 for anything not marked so it was like I saved .50. Asked about games at one sale and the lady brought out that SNES from her garage and as I looked at it she said I could have (more like rescure it) for .50 but I think it's already dead lol That picture really doesn't fully show how bad it is and befittingly enough the Mario Kart 64 in not as bad of shape was from the house next door. Anything else not mentioned was asking price.

did a lil bit of yard sale stuff today

found a sega genesis and some genesis games which i passed on since i was only looking for some things i really didn't have since i am kinda penny pinchin at the moment

well i found my first Game Gear in the wild at a yard sale. bought it for 5 bucks

http://i226.photobucket.com/albums/dd158/car_show_fan/carshows2/gamegear.jpg
came with no games
had really old batteries in it
so i bought some new ones.
tried to start it up and nothing
i did notice there was some light corrosion on the terminal.. but don't think its that bad like it just started to do it kinda thing (have yet to crack the system open to see how far it truely has spread)

It's weird that I can go for months without finding anything gaming-related AT ALL and now it's all over the place. It looks like people are finally getting rid of their Mega Drives around these parts, which is not a bad thing at all ;)

Anyway, today's finds are:

NES:
Volley Ball

Sega Mega Drive:
Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine (Complete)
Ecco: The Tides of Time (No manual)

Jurassic Park Rampage Edition (Complete)
Separation Anxiety (Complete)
Strider (No manual)

I got a GBC last month that had a lot of corrosion in it. I would suggest taking apart the unit and soaking the battery terminal in vinegar (be careful though, as the vinegar might react strongly to the battery acid).

I dunno, it may be a very early launch unit, but I would far prefer a AC adapter like that rather than that stupid box hanging off the outlet.

PS2:

Halo: Contact Harvest novel $1
Halo: The Cole Protocol novel $1
MAG(PS3) $7.48
Kung Fu Rider(PS3 Move) $2.48
No One Lives Forever strategy guide(PC) $1.41
No One Lives Forever(PS2) $4.50
Silent Hill(PS1) $3
PS1 Demo 25 cents
3 Marvel/DC Toys 75 cents

Not Pictured
Metal Gear Solid: VR Missions(PS1) $3
Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour(Gamecube) $3

The yardsales were very dry this weekend so everything I acquired was from Goodwill's, Target's and thrift stores. I already have(and read) both Halo novels but they were still a good pick up. And amid all the worthless PS1 games was copies of Silent Hill and MGS: VR Missions. Silent Hill's case was wrecked with some sort of goo so I just swapped it out right there in the aisle with a good case and now it looks new. I might keep this one and sell my sealed copy.

What I find intersting is that the NOLF strategy guide is rated M but the PS2 version of the game is only rated T. I looked it up on wiki but the only thing I could find out is that the first Pc version of NOLF was rated T but the later released game of the year version was rated M. I still couldn't find out why the later version was rated M though.

Halo 2(Xbox)

Viewtiful Joe(GC)
Geist(GC)
Soul Calibur 2(GC)
Half-Life 2(PC)
Battlefield 1942 Anthology(PC)
Red Faction II(PC)

$10 for all

This was a recent craigs list find. I have to admit that the dude has good taste in games. And $10 for 11 games is a price that just couldn't be beat, despite the hour drive it took to get there. I already have the majority of the good stuff but thats ok because the prices on some of these has went up recently.

I picked up a small handful of DS and PSP games the other day while vacationing in Portland/Salem, OR.

I acquired...

Disgaea Infinite (PSP, Used)
Harvest Moon: Hero of Leaf Valley (PSP, Used)
Jikandia: The Timeless Land (PSP, New)
Meteos: Disney Magic (DS, Used)
Dungeon Raiders (DS, Used)

We checked a half dozen or so stores in the Portland-Salem-Eugene area but only the first one had anything I wanted. I did find a retro store out of the way that had a Chubby Cherub in a really, REALLY beat up box for $19.99. I passed on it because of the condition of the box but should I have picked it up for that price? :|

A few days ago at Goodwill I paid 7.99 for the following:

Original Xbox with cables (works fine other than the disc tray opens and closes of its own will)
Duke controller (exposed wires, shorts out/unrecognized)
3rd party controller that also has a short in the cable
Joytech Neo Se xbox 360 wired controller (don't have a 360 to test it, can't find good PC drivers)

Today's finds:

http://i55.tinypic.com/2d9tlxl.jpg

Zelda: Twilight Princess
Zelda: Wind Waker
Metroid Prime 2
Crazy Taxi
NHL 06
Madden 06

All for $25 from Kijiji. They're all in great working condition, though Twilight Princess is missing the manual. Twilight Princess sells for $30+ on eBay, so the bundle was worth it for that alone!

The seller said that they had multiple other people asking and had received a higher offer after they already promised it to me. I lucked out!

Great condition and works perfectly! Tracking down the cable that connects the wheel and pedals was a little tricky, since it didn't come with that.

Apple 65W power adapter for PowerBook G4 - $2.50 from D'arcy's Arc thrift store

This was a really lucky find. I'd been without a proper power adapter for my PowerBook for a long time. Most of the third party ones that claim to be 65W are actually 45W, and that causes all kinds of problems. Now I just need a replacement battery...

16gb 1st gen Ipad. Paid 350 for it. I've wanted one of these since they came out and this was my first oppurtunity to get one at a price I liked. Flawless condition with only smudges and such on the screen when I took the picture that are now cleaned off.

I got two of these:

And two SATA ones. All for a buck each. I can't find a listing for the SATA ones... they have no model information anywhere. But hey, I've been wanting to buy some of these for a while. Hee.

Only one thing this week, a copy of Million Dollar Kid: Maboroshi no Teiou Hen for the Famicom.

http://www.classicplastic.net/digitalpress/finds/DP-Finds-2011-07-08(01).jpg

This is the game that was severely butchered and reworked into Casino Kid, which only shares the slightest resemblance to the original game. In the Famicom game everyone talks a lot more and there are multiple casinos rather than the lone huge one on the NES. If someone is standing behind a table game, guess what, you can usually just go right up and play! The slot machines that are all over the casino? You can actually play those too! Additionally the Famicom version features roulette. The objective remains to bankrupt all your opponents but the over all game makes more sense. Everyone talks a lot and you have the option to talk or attempt to challenge. There are a lot more characters as well.

Once you've exhausted all available challengers you can buy a plane ticket and fly to different countries and different casinos, all of which are different and feature different people inside. As your reputation grows you can fly back to earlier casinos and find more challengers. I haven't played it a ton but during a draw poker game with an opponent, at one point she asked if we could switch to stud poker, which is again something that doesn't happen in Casino Kid.

After things settle down (relocating later this month) I'm thinking about offering a translation bounty for this game. It's freaking awesome, especially considering how boring the US rework Casino Kid is.

More info here (http://lvls.wordpress.com/2010/11/18/cultural-anxiety-casino-kid100-man-dollar-kid-maboroshi-no-teiou-hen-nesfamicom/).

I thought the same and I agree - super low demand + tons of text. It would be like asking someone to translate an RPG that no one cares about. LOL

Apple 65W power adapter for PowerBook G4 - $2.50 from D'arcy's Arc thrift store

This was a really lucky find. I'd been without a proper power adapter for my PowerBook for a long time. Most of the third party ones that claim to be 65W alare actually 45W, and that causes all kinds of problems. Now I just need a replacement battery...

What are those flaps for?

All I found today (not worth taking pictures of) was a battered copy of Ico for the PS2 for $4 at a Goodwill (disc is scratched but not badly, it should be fine after resurfacing), and at a Movie Trading Company location I found a Nakitek 3DO controller for $3.99.

I ended up passing on a boxed Apple eMate 300 (a ruggedized laptop version of their Newton PDA designed for the educational market) since I've already got one.

5 Games (No Manual For EFMI) - 2.50
5 More Games (All Complete If Not Cart/Card Only) - 20
Twisted Metal 2 - 2 (Plus Tax)

The first 5 games were asking .50 each. The second 5 when I asked about games the kid pointed out a GameCube with 5 games that was $50 that was easy to over look since it still had the lid on it. I asked about Twilight Princess and he was nice enough to split it out for 5, offered 20 from 21 asking price on all (GBA games were 3 each). Twisted Metal 2 was from the Salvation Army that is right on the way home.

Alone In The Dark The New Nightmare (PC, CIJ) - .25
Torpedo Range (GB) - 1
Virtua Fighter 3TB - 1
Fallout 3 Game of The Year Edition - 6
6 Complete Wii Games - 15
9 Nintendo 64 Game - 7

All disk based games from Saturday are complete. Fallout 3 GOTYE was asking 7 but took 6. The Wii games were 5 each, took 15 for 6. Asked about video games at one of the first sales of the day, mentioned and brought out all of these N64 games I picked out 5 or 6 games and when they wanted a buck each I offered to take all of them for 7 which was taken. The other 3 small finds were asking price.

Another nice find today!

http://i55.tinypic.com/2yuila1.jpg

American McGee's Alice - $1
Full Throttle - $1
Rayman Forever - $1

Found these three at Goodwill today. They're all in nice condition, with much cleaner discs than I was expecting. Too bad Alice is missing the front insert, but it does have the back with CD key - and it's the bloody knife version! How much are these going for these days? On eBay it looks like jewel case copies with front insert are going for $30-40 still?
