Got a gameboy color cart, the prince of persia that the title screen comes up and when you press start you see the screen for a few seconds and then goes blank. Sometimes you hear an audio tone sometimes you don't. I took apart the cart, cleaned the contacts with an eraser and then contact cleaner and inspected all the solder connections and didn't see any breaks. Anyone got an idea as to what's wrong? I also cleaned the connector in the gba sp and my supergameboy with no luck. Help!

The usual:
Have you tried the cart in another GameBoy? Have you tried another cart in the same GameBoy?

The less usual: if the above checks out it might be some slight damage to a solder joint somewhere. Not very common but its possible. Usually due to a large amount of force applied to the cart at some point.

I've also had a similar problem with an N64 cart whose edge connector got cracked just enough to prevent the game from booting but not enough to be visible.

I have a similar problem with one of my black carts. The Nintendo logo shows up fine. Then the screen fades, stays completely blank for half a second. Then it all goes black and stays that way.

There's no visible damage to the cart. I wonder if its programming is somehow intolerant of a dead battery.

Tried all the things you mentioned. Nothing. I'm stumped and there is no battery in cart.:help:

The original Game Boy used a similar idea to TMSS. It would only boot if the cart contained an identical copy of the Nintendo logo, to the logo stored in the CPU's ROM. If an unlicensed company copied the Nintendo logo, it was intended Nintendo could sue for trademark infringement, but in the Sega vs. Accolade case, it was ruled trademark infringement is okay if it's an absolutely necessary procedure to boot the console.

Sorry to get everyone confused But I meant Gaiares for the Sega Genesis sometimes you just get a bad copy of a game and you cant do anything about it(that I'm aware of)
