Sup guys, loving the site! I just got into collecting gaming shtuff, and I'm really enjoying it. So I was at my local-ish car-boot sale today and I bought a few things,

Gamegear in decent condition with both battery covers, EXT. port cover, expansion screw thing and a lanyard attach to the bottom
.3rd party Master System converter (Gear Master by Beeshu)
.3rd party screen magnifying glass (Wide Gear)
.Four games (Paperboy, Out Run Europa, Sega Game Pack 4 in 1 and NBA JAM)
.Weird carrying case that doesn't really fit anything, I doubt it's actually for the Gamegear

All for £10

.Final Fantasy (Platinum) in really nice condition with all 3 disks, FF8 demo disk and manual for £10

.Sonic 3 for the MegaDrive in nice condition with box and manual
.Sonic and Knuckles for the MegaDrive (cart only)
.3rd party Master System converter (Mega Master)
.Master System Light Phaser

All for £10

So everything works, besides the Gamegear. It powers on but the screen is all lines moving up and down horizontally. The sound is fine though, albeit rather quiet. Is this a common issue with them? I've read something about changing the capacitors?

And a little off topic, I was at GameStation recently searching their retro section (which is now PS2, XBOX 1 and some PS1 games) when I came across something unusual. I found a copy of Burnout on the XBOX 1 that says 'Charity Pack - Not for resale' across the front. It's the same style as the 'Promotional Copy' with a yellow stripe and black lettering. Anyone have any information on it?

Cheers,
Josh.

Would it be possible for you to post a picture of the carrying case?

For our USA friends:
car-boot = fleamarket

anyway, good deals

Nice finds! Your problem with the Game Gear does sound like it could be the capacitor issue. Here's a guide that a quick Google search turned up http://members.optusnet.com.au/eviltim/ggrgb/ggrepair.html

I'd say crack it open and look for obvious signs of bad caps, ie leaking.

lol I was totally thinking. "What does parking enforcement have to do with video games?" Also, flea market is not a common term either is some areas, swap meet is used around here.

Wait, I thought a boot sale was where people literally had the backs of their cars open with items spread out for people to buy.

Nice finds, and welcome.

.

Yes, you're spot on, but of course nowadays it's far bigger than that, with tables and whatnot.

BTw boot = trunk, so there's another UK-US difference

I meant to say FF7 :) Oh, and I found out that the screen magnifier is actually the official one.

@Sysop Here's some pictures, dude. It has no branding on it and I think it's lost one of the plastic inserts. That'd probably explain why there's no space for GG itself, haha.

And here's a pic of the Burnout I found.

And the 3rd party Master System converter. The pause button has fallen out, haha.

@CapnCrunch53 Thanks for the info! But I have no soldering skills, and no tool to open the GG itself. I found this guy on eBay who replaces the sound + video capacitors and fixes a broken LCD for £20 ($31.83). He also has a listing for a power LED mod which he says really improves battery life. Anyone here got this mod?

@Tupin Haha yeah, but I haven't seen anyone selling straight out of their boot/trunk recently. A couple of people at my local one have a couple of tables, stuff on the floor and dvd/game racks :)

I was so confused then read the other comments and just LOL'd.
